    I really like this video about the expenses comparison. Thanks for doing it. Also by the way, I ordered some of your coffee about a month ago and just today tried it for the first time. I don’t know why but I guess, I wasn’t expecting as much from it. But I am here to tell you this is the best coffee I have ever tasted. I’m 66 years old and they been drinking coffee since I was a teenager. My preference has been flavored coffee which my friend referred to as poodle coffee instead of cowboy coffee. But let me tell you I have no words for how delightful morning movement is. You guys hit the jackpot and it’s now going to be The only coffee I drink thank you very much for bringing it to the US.

    One thing you have to keep in mind about those living cost differences is that the money you'll earn there will often be less too. Not that isn't cheap compared to the U.S. but if you're earning an average local income I'm sure the ratio of earning to expenses would about the same. So figure out how to keep earning in USD if you want to live there.

      Your point is valid, but most people wanting to do these things and live in another country typically work remotely and/or have an income from their respective country such as social security.

      @Bojangles The US is at the forefront of the world’s foray into new forms of healthcare, cures and pharmaceuticals. The US is also over charged by its own medical companies BY FAR than any place in the world (google is your friend). Healthcare in this country for the working person, not getting aid or getting free or dirt cheap Obamacare (good on it’s inception then Obama handed it over to politicians, google is your friend) is killing the middle class. I have traveled and lived throughout the country and I have access to the internet and google... As a cop of 29.5 years, yeah, I traveled throughout my city extensively lmfao. US citizens are being raped by its own industries. Google epipen my friend. Google why a pharma CEO was ran out of his chair when he took a breast cancer pill and almost overnight, increased the cost almost 1000%. That’s JUST our medical at work... Use your thumbs on your phone and type google then come back with facts, not insults.

      There are recent news warnings about that, complete with xrays of a young woman’s broken femurs that fractured thru all areas of her pelvis at 100’s of miles an hour when the airbag fired during an accident. Horrific accident, permanently disabled. Don’t do it.

    Kaylee if you're loving kombucha get 1 unflavored bottle and use it as a start in a gallon jug with strong sweet tea (unflavored) after 7-10 days you'll have a gallon of kombucha for the price of 1 bottle plus the price for 1/4 cup of tea leaves and your rainwater. There are videos all over youtube on how easy it is to make. I've been making my own for over a year. I'd send you a start if you think it would get to you in less than 2 weeks.

      chris tignor they were comparing average Americans to average Panamanian.

    • @auto_pilot
      @auto_pilot 4 роки тому +1

      chris tignor I agree that they are not giving an apples to apples comparison of urban living costs and rural living costs. The other thing that I’d be interested in knowing is the income comparison. I’ll be willing to bet that the average income in Panama is substantially less than in the U.S. Therefore, while the costs may be less the revenue will also likely be significantly less, too. So, this comparison may only be useful for those who’ve already retired and are on a fixed U.S. income or those with a sizable nest egg who won’t need to earn a living while down there.
      Personally, I’ve not been overly impressed with what Panamanian life has to offer. Two of my biggest climate issues seem to be their norm: incredibly strong winds and rain for most all of these videos. I’m still waiting for the post-card-like weather in these videos that I’ve not yet seen. And the “beauty” of the scenery is just ho-hum to me. I see much more beauty right here in the good old U.S. of A. But, I’m perfectly content with our lives where we live here in Texas, too.

You don’t judge , nor do you put on airs. I’ve always wanted to embark on such a journey, but never been brave enough to take the leap of faith required to call one’s self to action. Is it safe in Panama? I’m a teacher and have often thought of moving to teach English in a foreign country. It’s beauty is beyond compare. I would love to lose the tech lifestyle here in the states and find a more quiet life filled with meaning. I would be on my own and wondered how safe it might be for a single woman to live there alone. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. God bless and stay safe.

      Hi Donna, Panameña here. 👋🏼
      Panama is a beautiful place. However I recommend a native and an interpreter to go with you. It sounds like you want to go into the jungles to teach English and get away from technology which I'm sad to say are thresh holds for colombian guerrillas and drug lords therefore not safe and can be dangerous. Especially if it's in the Darién

      Isn’t it crazy how health care in many other countries is affordable and effective? The USA has turned healthcare into a booming industry ruled by the greed of drug companies, hospitals, insurance companies, ambulance chasing attorneys, money hungry patients and many doctors (I said many not all). The most successful countries with the highest standards of living often have a version of socialized medicine. Here, all the parties heretofore mentioned, protect their vested interest via propaganda designed to create a terror of socialized medicine in the hearts of Americans. Norway, Canada, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Britain, France, Japan, Germany etc... They all score 91% or higher on the ratings scale for health care worldwide. And best of all, their citizens don’t lose everything they have bc of insurmountable costs for services that everyone should have regardless of race, religion, sexual preference, gender , age or socio-economic level. The USA is becoming weakened by its lust for money.

    Kaylee's $40k guesstimate for building fees is closer to the mark for Santa Cruz when you factor in school board fees (~$20k) for a new residence. Also expect $10-15k for a soils report and drainage plan and $6-12k for an architect or designer to create construction documents, so more like $60k+ before you're able to start trenching for utilities.

    Great Video, I am about a year back in the US from living in Puerto Armuelles. and as has already been noted Boquete is a bit more expensive due to the number of expats living there. I was actually considering the place you are living in now before I decided to return to the US. There were some places up Volcano way that were a bit cheaper.
    In Puerto I lived about 3 miles out of town in a nice (Americanized) small 2 bed, a block from the beach which cost me $450 a month. Electricity $50-60 Air con, on most of the time when home. Internet was expensive at $99. Transportation, bicycle. Grocery $30-40 a week. Lots of citrus on the property.

    What city are you in? Most expats start with Boquete. In addition to everything they mentioned, Panama is a very beautiful place. The flowers!!! The exotic tropical fruits!!! Everywhere!!! And if you are in the higher elevations, it's cool year 'round. AC not needed. Heating not needed. The one feature about the Volcan area that should be mentioned is that several months out of the year the have the windy season (Ba-ha-reh-keh) when the wind blows nearly hurricane force all night every night, and very gusty during the day. It takes some getting used to the noise at night, and houses have to be sturdily built to withstand it.

      A straight cost vs. cost comparison neglects any consideration of VALUE. I value the convenience of a major metropolitan area. I like being able to go to an Apple store without boarding an international flight. I value having some legal recourse when things go wrong. I've recently read articles about couples getting screwed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars they deposited in a reputable bank. Zero recourse. Out their life savings. That is a concern not addressed in a simplistic cost v. cost comparison.

    I own a duplex in Western Kentucky. The rent is $700, no utilities included. I live in the other half. My electric bill (July) was $216. Internet and phone $94. Cell phones $309 (six lines, unlimited data). Gas, water, sewer, and trash $112. Cable tv $98. Property tax $100. Property insurance $83. Mortgage $865. To put it in perspective, I also own a home in Southern California. The rent is $3,000 a month, no utilities included. Electric, gas, water, sewer, and trash are much higher, but the rest of the bills are the same, including property tax (thanks to Prop 13). We moved to Kentucky when our children were young in order to afford to live on one income. Now that we are ready to retire, we are moving to a Panama.

    LOL in Idaho my permit cost 20 dollars and I built my own house. My 10 acres, 160 foot well, 1500 sf house built cost me as much as your bare land did. I live on a mountain that over looks a lake and valley and its off grid. All non food expenses including house, auto insurance for 3 vehicles, gas for some generator use, gas for vehicles, health care for 4 people, propane, internet, 2 cell phones, 3 online streaming services, YMCA membership, property tax, life insurance cost 600 dollars. Healthy mostly vegetarian diet (a little fish, eggs and turkey) shopping at costco and local stores cost 500. So we average a little less than you do on the same items. Additional expenses that I have. I spend about 100 dollars expressing my 2nd amendment, 20 dollars on green coffee beans that I roast for myself. Clothes, movies, house and vehicle maintenance, travel, snowboarding ect about 500. Even my gas is 25 cents less per gallon. Way cheaper to live in the USA than Panama. With that being said you are being culturally enriched and you cant put a price tag on that.

    • @ibMoose2u
      @ibMoose2u 4 роки тому +4

      @XRP FANBOY I’d challenge that $600 for all listed under it... Especially the health insurance unless you’re lucky ad have a job that covers most of it (becoming rarer as pharma and healthcare skyrocket, bigger farce than the oil industry). It also depends on what states... CA my 2019 travel trailer was going to cost $839 to register it, that’s a yearly registration, there is no multi-year registration except 2 years for atv type vehicles and permanent for small utility trailers. My 2007 Honda $149, 2016 KLR650 $129, 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel $349. In Montana, travel trailer with permanent (never pay registration again) with specialized charity plates and customized word, $225. Same cost for each of my vehicles but less for the atv and motorcycle. Permanent.... amazing. But there are MANY states out there that are as expensive as CA. Housing throughout the US is becoming ridiculous with only pockets of areas still cheap.

      I think you missed the point. Jordan was trying to illustrate the costs vs average American spending. There will always be someone somewhere doing it cheaper. I suspect that at least 3-4 months a year you are heating your mountain home.. does the wood cut and stack itself? You likely get 10' of snow a year there. There are as many pros and cons to any situation. Jordan was just pointing out the costs where they are living.

My wood heats the house, heats the water, and with the wood cook stove cooks meals in the winter. I cut and stack the wood myself in the summer. I love it, only costs me a few bucks in gas for the chainsaw and keeps me in shape to:) And that may be the average cost for an American in a big city like Boston where they are from. But they moved to rural central America. Perhaps I got the wrong impression but they need to do a cost comparison of the rural mekka off-grid USA to the rural mekka off-grid of Central America.

If it were not for my planning for retirement 20 years before I did there would be no way one could afford the math you calculated. You have made a very wise choice at a young age. I would rather live like royalty somewhere else instead of being ripped off by government and corporations. You pretty much missed the mark with your UTILITIES quote: Your provided link at valuepenguin actually quotes strictly the utilities at $320/mo and that includes CELL SERVICE which isn't in your $6.20 by any means right? In fairness, even amortizing your WiBooster ($499.00) over a 10 life should add $4/mo...
    To get to $589, they're adding in lawn maintenance, baby sitting, pest control and security systems, and household items such as towels or a new kitchen table.
    So your $6.20 should go up significantly, and you should have quoted the $320, with mentioning LOTS of caveats... as anything on either side of the equation that isn't applicable should be called out.

    very good report this week. great comparisons, you picked the right categories and your conclusions make a very compelling reason to pick Panama. At your age, you don't have many worries of disease. But, because you are doing construction, and there's always the possibility of being hurt on the job, it may be a good idea to get local health insurance, as you are more likely to need insurance for an emergency-room visit than for a long term condition. At $275/mo it is better to rent than to own. There is a Salvador YT channel I follow, Prefabricados Nahuat. For all you know, there's companies in Panama doing the same. This may be of help when you are ready to build other cabins on your property. The bigger challenge you face is, once you determine how many cabins you will want on your property, what are you going to do about sewage and water? how are you going to dispose of trash from, say, 10 cabins? You will need electricity, solar is not going to be enough. How will your guests be getting to and from town? what regulations will you encounter as the local government realizes mmm, here's a future business in the making, how can we TAX them?
