I'm sure everyone is chiming in on some chicken coop advice so here it goes....we found great success using sand in our chicken coop instead of straw. It provided grit for them, they could scratch, keeps the coop mold free as well as super easy to clean up poop! We made a giant kitty litter scooper and easily picked it up every day and threw it on to our compost pile. We lined their nests with pine shavings, dried herbs and diatomaceous earth as well as putting garlic in their water all the time. We had 52 chickens for 4 years! Not one of them got sick!

Well; we finally made the move to Panama City, Panama. We've been here for 3 weeks. We entered into a 2-year rental agreement on a 3 bedroom / 3bath condo with separate maids quarters / bath, in San Francisco, Panama City, Panama - directly facing the Pacific ocean. Yesterday, we had TIGO come out and reconnect us to the world. So, we are streaming and have full inter net services. What a joy to be on our way to becoming Pensionata Visa permanent residents. 08 03 2022. We love Panama!
Having been involved with, and living full time in Costa Rica (27 years), we experienced these events too. It's one of the best ways that the People have to make their needs known to those who run the country. Inconvenient, but sometimes it's the only way to get their attention. We think you guys handle it superbly. We love your beautiful attitude, and applaud you every step of the way.
"If you're relying on the government to make you happy, you're in for a bad time." That's a powerful statement for creating a home and community that is self-sustainable.
It was so nice to see Jordan's Dad and mom there and enjoying time with Sadie. Also to see the progress on the bathroom build. Plus Rodrigo and the guys helping out. So thankful to the Good Lord for Lola's Farm because it just goes to show how a loving community can come together and make living off the land can work. It's not everyone that gets the chance to do that and be self sufficient. Will keep praying that the unrest ends and the gas situation goes back to normal. I like that you both (Jordan and Kaley) take turns with the welding it looks time consuming and very tiring. The amount of goat milk being produced is amazing and just goes to show that you all treat your animals with love and respect so they feel comfortable and produce. A Calm goat is a milk producing goat! LOL Love yuse all have a great week.
My wife and I found your Chanel shortly after you started work on your home. We haven't missed a video since and became very fond of you. My wife felt a very special bond with you. I lost my dear wife a few days ago and I feel she is still watching you. Hug each other often and tell each other you love them even more. Steve
So not sure if y'all know this and for anyone interested the whey that's left after u make ur cheese can be used as a substitute for water in recipes, u can lactose ferment with it, can add it to ur chicken feed and many other uses! Also so glad to see Jordan's parents visiting and playing with Sadie! They are awesome! Y'all are awesome! God Bless 🙏🥰
Do you know if the whey from yogurt can be used for these same purposes as well? Every two weeks, I make a batch of yummy Greek yogurt. But the leftover whey, I just feed to plants. Always wish I knew something else to do with it.
@@melissagarden4521 we also use whey in with the water that we soak our beans in ... before we cook them in the crock pot. The whey helps with digestion and we learned about it from Sally Fallon's book "Nourishing Traditions" . the slow food movement...
It makes me happy to see a happily married couple living the dream life in these very terrible times. I'm very jelly !! I live alone and could be facing homelessness soon. Scary!!! Your daughter is very beautiful!!! Appreciate all that you have and take NOTHING for granted!!! God bless !!!!! Oh...And Congrats on your bathroom!!!
They are happily together but not happily married - not that that makes a difference to them I imagine. "Take nothing for granted" is such a true statement. Hope you can find other arrangements before you become homeless. In the next 2 years myself and a daughter - both of us with physical/health-based disabilities - are looking at being homeless. My oldest and her husband are leaving the US for another country for job purposes which will leave us without housing. Are we supposed to keep being a burden to them so that they can never have the life they have always dreamed of? We have a bit of time to search out options and see what we can work with. I hope both (all) of us can find situations that can work long-term. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Kaylee is the real champ in all this, imo. Not many women would agree to poop in a hole or use poop to create their electricity, or gas, with that big bubble bag. Then having a little one out there. She is pretty amazing, and her positive attitude in it all is so contagious.💜

I remember you guys having a greenhouse for your garden, could you do an update on the garden? You should be planting a huge garden, canning, or finding a way to store everything because it's just going to get harder as time goes by. Stock up on flour, sugar, and the essentials so you don't have to waste gas in these crazy times. Don't forget to get cloth diapers and rags for wipes. It sounds crazy but it's better to be prepared. Take care & stay safe.
Please be safe and protect yourselves and your lovely baby! I’ve been following you guys for years and I’ve seen your documented life grow. Civil unrest can turn quickly!!
This the first I have heard of protests where you are. Lots of countries stirring right now. Proud of all that you guys have accomplished, love watching you guys fearlessly tackle projects. I busted out laughing when the water holder for the chickens came apart and the water went everywhere. That’s life things happen, it’s good to laugh instead of cry.
Sadie is ADORABLE oh my goodness what a beautiful child! I've been watching you guys since you were in your van, and covid started, putting you in that sticky situation. I've watched your life together grow, and the people around you on your property becoming your family as they help you develop the land. It's been quite a process to watch. I didn't know about what was going on in Panama. Stay safe and may God keep you safe and continue to bless your lives in even greater ways
I saw a news article about the protests on the Panamanian highway and I immediately thought of you guys. Hope everybody finds some relief soon, y'all be safe.

Experiences from my living abroad: I would encourage you all to start a community discussion concerning physical security for Lola's Farm. I would also recommend not traveling alone when making trips to town (during these times of unrest). Arrive VERY early when going to town to minimize your wait times in fuel lines. Remember that "Desperate times call for desperate measures". Plan and act accordingly! Good Luck and stay safe!!
My thoughts exactly....My better half could not understand why I paid as much as I did for our all our acreage a bit south of Jorden with the necessary resources. I saw this coming many years ago globally. We have been doing what is necessary to hit the ground running but also too with a roof over our heads finally which is pretty good size and under $10k. We have been offered double what we paid but we purchased for one reason and one reason only. Our location has been looted but with that said it is being watched by some decent locals that will fight the fight and know who the perps are. For many who say there is zero crime and life is paradise are living on pure fantasy. Need to have infrared cameras every 300 feet around the property that run off from solar and are well hidden. Need to also have trip wires that are up high enough where the animals will not set off as well. Don't trust local enforcement, can be your worst enemy. Would suggest as well several large gradian K9's if you can afford it and train them not to take anything from strangers. Be careful who you thought you could trust as they could be taking notes as well. Also have reliable security you can call if needed 24/7 both with the locals and "Gringo's!" Blessings
John Davis, you summarized this very well. I do hope they listen to your suggestions. There are times we all need to be invisible while we are not in our own country.
Oh, please. Stop with the paranoia. Then you should do the same after the civil unrest in the USA. You don't go and start telling people to be careful with they travel to the USA because of protests, why is Latin America different?? Typical ignorant people from the US that think that Latin America is a dangerous place. STOP. It's pretty normal to have protests in ever country, it doesn't mean there will be a coup and it will dangerous everywhere. FFS. It makes me so made that to come to Latin America and the S H 1 T on us with you "American" superiority. You are not even suposed to be calling yourselves American. American are all the people that in on THE AMERICAN CONTINENT, America is not a country, so stop calling yourselves "American". If people are afraid then they should go back to living in the "first" world where you don't even have healthcare to all people or education.

There is so much freedom in reclaiming the skills modern society has begged us to forget and being willing to work hard, get our hands dirty, try, fail, and learn along the way. Self reliance is important, but being able to lean into community when things get rough is what changes this from being a difficult, lonely journey into one of lasting meaning and substance. What y’all are doing is amazing and worth it. Amidst all the chaos and unrest, what can we do to help? Ps, those glasses look good on ya ❤️❤️
We have been living with this philosophy on our farm in Ecuador. Over the years we have been theough several large scale protests , but feel secure with gardens, tilapai ponds, bee hives, orchard and of course, coffee…Can’t survive without coffee ☕️

Good for you creating you’re vision and farm in Panama. Be safe I remember reading about two students from the Netherlands in 2014 who went hiking with they’re dog in Panama. The dog came back however, they’re severed remains were found with no cause of death by authorities.
One thing I can say about Panamanians is that they are peaceful loving people, but do make their leaders accountable. Stay safe and hopefully this situation will come to some kind of solution soon.
Guess what when these wealthy gringos, are there, and ur country is starving, from climate change. If they don't leave, when they take your , goats, chickens... REALLY! If someone is starving, as with the climate change etc. You better believe, the best of them , will take ur livestock, ur crops. What they need. Because, they need to eat. If these two feel they can trapse around the jungle with a newborn ?? It's a lie.

We lived on a military base in Panama during the ,80s. My father was a jungle warfare instructor. One time he was driving his motorcycle on base and va minibus with a car bomb blew up. He was driving behind them swerved and broke both legs. The bike was somewhat okay. Even with the civil unrest back then my father still misses this country. If it wasn't for my mother he probably would have definitely retired there.
It's around $9/gallon in Portugal, 😒 The propane conversion on our car is a life saver right now. It's around 60% of the cost of gasoline, burns cleaner creating more power. It's nice to have two fuel options and more than one gas tank. Baking is incredibly sensitive to measurements. Letting it off gas long enough is important.
Look at Sadie’s little toothers! My husband has been saying for the past year that all this with food and gas was going to happen and wants us to be able to provide our own food and we live in SC. I have been trying to grow food but I have not had the best of luck. Y’all stay safe!

No one's hiding anything. This is what IS. And we need to do what we can in our own lives and community to come alongside one another as a people. Life was never a 'reality' TV show. There are challenges we're facing that can no longer be ignored. Climate is one of them. Food production is another in a rapidly changing climate. Energy (heating/cooling), and water usage. The time to step up to the plate is now.

I think that it's always tough when living or visiting somewhere protests are taking place if it's not your own home. Protests are starting around the world and in my opinion it's about time. For far too long now the working class of the world has been taken over by Billionaires. It's time for the working class to take back some control and fight back so that we can once again afford the basics, home, college tuition, food, and other basics. It's been a long time in the making.
Actually it's the monetary system, fiat money is the death of an economy as it benefits those who can spend it first. End the Fed and the fiat experiment and return to sound and real money so that people's savings doesn't go up in smoke.

Just so you are aware the shortage aren’t because there is a lack of gas or goods. The shortages are due to protestors blocking roads and therefore the gas and goods are unable to reach the communities. I get the sense that some people think this is due to actual food shortages or fuel shortages and it’s nothing of the sort. Protestors are preventing the trucking industry from being able to function. It’s a shortage created by the protestors themselves. If they weren’t protesting the shortages would not be happening.
Where have you been in the past two years??? Riots killing and burning is already here happened and happening in the US. The Panamanian people are civilized and peaceful compared to the BLM and antifa thugs. I experienced both first hand trust me on this.
I worked and lived in Panama from 1984-1987 and there were protests in 1987 (Noriega government) and the protests were largely non-violent and I felt safe. The only annoyance were the road blockages. There were no food or gas shortages. What is happening now appears to be much different. I returned to Panama for a one-week visit in March 2022. Loved it. Even spent a few days in Boquete. Had been thinking about relocating there from the US. I am currently re-thinking. I pray that the food ad gas shortage situation does not get so bad that "the desperate" try to enter your property to steal your resources as you guys are largely self-sufficient. Be safe.
Be safe and careful! Love your videos. Here in the states we've had riots and looting not too long ago. In Panama it's more of a peaceful protest, . It happens everywhere. As long as it's peaceful and no one gets hurt. My brother lives there and says it's a beautiful country, safe and people are amazing. Always going out of your way to help someone.

The book that Sadie's chewing on, 'Goodnight Moon', was my daughter's favorite book! I still have it and will read it to my grandchildren one day🥰
I used to love reading that one to my son, too!

The propane conversion on our car is a life saver right now. It's around 60% of the cost of gasoline, burns cleaner creating more power. It's nice to have two fuel options and more than one gas tank.

And who are those that get that fake money first, big banks and corporate interests. End the Fed and the fiat experiment and return to sound and real money so that people's savings doesn't go up in smoke.

Yeah here in America people are just protesting that they want to kill unborn babies.

I'm planning a move there and thinking of being in the mountains vs the ocean.
We experienced this in my Province in South Africa in July last year. I remember being in a long q like that for fuel. Hectic stuff but I hope things get back to “normal” there for you
Are solar panels being used by South Africans? E-bikes? E-scooters?
@@RM-xf9gi Many households are installing solar panels now because our power supplier is struggling. I’ve seen a few E-bikes mostly from local food delivery people.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Panama. My brother went there to visit last year and he really liked it there!
The bathhouse is taking shape,,, Love watching the progress toward self sustainability. Goat butter is white,,,,, a great way to use up the older milk,,, just take the whole milk, shake it back and forth in a jar ,,, older milk shakes quicker,,,,,
I've been watching for a couple of years now,... I love the farm and projects that have been done. I sure hope things settle down and you guys stay safe.
I'm extremely sad that Panama is going through this drain this time of our history. This is happening in Sri Lanka and many other countries with the covid vaccine and the lockdowns people are getting fed up with all of it. God bless you Kaylee and Jordan and keep safe with Sadie!
Unfortunately your comment is false. I'm living in abroad where most citizens are vaccinated and there is no shortages of gas, food, nothing! We are prospering very well!
@@AndNowIWrite So why do you think you know what’s going on in other peoples lives? How silly
There is a lot of unrest in the world, but most is unrelated to Covid vaccines, it's related to mismanagement of resources disruption of shipping, wars, inflation, etc.
@@brianasamuels maybe because I've traveled through Portugal, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, and Austria since May and have spoken to hundreds of people and shopped in numerous stores. How bout you? Where have you been this summer?
@@AndNowIWrite And what you still don’t know that that is not the whole world? Keep traveling you have a lot to learn. I don’t even need to leave my backyard to know that
I remember not too long ago when everyone on YT was promoting moving to Panama and wherever as THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING. I saw through it from day one and here they are in permanent chaos. So much for all the recommendations.
Hi Kelly and Jordan!
I must say that I am a Lola's Farm fan! I want to suggest that you guys could make cheese "Lola's Farm Queso" and sell it in the town market. In this way you can interact with the locals, and earn a little on the side! :)
Best regards from

This is my first view of you two. Liked it. Like REAL people. My plans are to move to Boquete in April. Would love to be a mile or two out of town. On a mountainside. I'll look at a few more videos. Maybe all.
Very dificult time is coming for all over the world. Prayers for all you family.
Enjoyed your video. Please be careful while this unrest is going on..
Just be prepare the things your doing to be self sustaining....when others dont have they will come to take yours.....food,water,animals ....it doesnt matter where you live .
