My wife and went to slab city almost 4 years ago in late December. We visited Salvation Mountain and got out and looked around. We didn’t have any problems and got to see something truly unique. Thanks for visiting and sharing your experience.
This is one of the most memorable travel vlogs that I've seen. I thought places like these only existed in video games and movies but seeing it still exists is so amazing.

Wow, the Slabs have changed a lot since I last saw them (~20 years ago) but it's good to see that the Salvation Mountain is in good condition since Leo died. (Honestly one of the kindest people I've ever met)
I met him too about 20 years ago and donated a bunch of supplies had laying around some of my construction sites. I believe they now have established a nonprofit organization that maintains salvation mountain.
I work with the homeless a lot. Often, the true homeless aren't homeless at all They just choose to live outside what we call "normal" in society. They want to live by their own rules and not conform. Slab City is a perfect place for that. It's just sad that the drugs and mental illness follow this group wherever they tend to go. Awesome video.
I camped out in Slab City with some friends, it was truly a great experience, we went to Salvation Mountain, went to Rabbitside, went to the Library, went to East Jesus, then we went to the Range and they were playing music, everyone was very friendly and welcoming, so glad I got to experience it.
@JakeInvest I wouldn't say vacation perse, but it is a cool spot to go to if you wanna camp for a few days. I recommend going during the winter. Otherwise, you will be dealing with 120-degree weather.
I’d say Slab City and places like it are both a blessing and a curse. People often come here to escape for some reason but if they can’t withstand the harsh conditions then they just find themselves suffering still. Still, it’s heartwarming that there are so many nice people in a “lawless” place like this, and that they are willing to help each other rather than steal and envy one another.
the young generation escape responsibilities and just want to party and use drugs there. Look how the environment looks like, so much dirt laying there around then you can already see a lack of discipline. They could try to dig holes to get water and try to create a greener environment.
@lemmykoopa1379 life is different if one has to ensure their basic needs everyday. Walking 3 miles to get 2 gallons of H20 takes 3 hrs. Now a majority has watermarks, but they still have to ensure there's enough power, gas for groceries or funds to overpay a "Slab Cab" e.g. 75 to El Centro, per person not per shared ride. I agree there could be a collective approach of ensuring the uncovered ground is covered with desert plants to lower the overall temperature and prevent the rapid erosion, flooding and fires spreading too fast. But ultimately people are surviving and also have little desire to do anything large nor long-term to help overall life quality be at least minimumly covers the basic needs for everyone. Thats kind of normal in every community. Essential for survival. They don't want everyone to survive, there's a cut throat environment where they go lengths to cut others of from basic needs.
The documentaries are misleading, why would they have a heroin dealing person guide the presenter. Only in Slab City are the killing dealers hailed as heroes. Or Bob from the hostel assaults women [allegedly] every chance he gets, he's portrayed as some messiah in Rick the Rangers recent documentary. Same as Peter in Carlos Durans Slab TV, he's well known as an alleged rapist, but portrayed as a victim whose window was broken. By one of his alleged rape victims. Not everyone has such extreme backgrounds, but those volunteering to guide around folks are hard working folks, not always in the most ethical way. We just don't get to share that, because everyone is so impressed by them being nice on camera. That's their MO, thats why they're surviving well as the main dealer. Whom is needed. Dont get me wrong. People are truly suffering. And drug use can be considered self-medicating. And so Beryl is truly appreciated by most, but let's not forget that it kills tons of people and they're never accountable, just heroes on UA-cam, that's all they need to keep going
@@lemmykoopa1379 I frequently stay in Brawley, pretending I am welcome in Slabs, and promise to start community programs while worn out my welcome. It's rent free, not free of a social dynamic that rules everything and everyone. If I speak up about it, I receive more scrutiny and violence. They have to present it as a great amazing community so the tourists continue to visit and contribute some donations. But it ultimately enables the residents and there is no normal constructive conversation to be held without being socially banned, physically harmed or even burned out for trying to address issues like safety standards when building camps. Allowing people without a tank to get more than 2 gallons/day so there's a little but more time to spend on food, gas or solar power matters, because that would have those with watertanks significantly lose power. Everything is measurable here and controllable. But if one tries to address it, even offers to PAY for community water, its a social avalanche of women ensuring that some they don't deem welcome to ban them and make all relationships and resources inaccessible. Burning each other out is just one method to assert their power. There are many more ways that a few are holding. It's sad, there's much more potential. It's also discerning that this is the best a group of self governing individuals can do together. The documentaries are way to idolized, which will allow tourists to come. Reality is truly he'll for those that have no RV. Segregation and disparity is huge here, and its easy to blame it on drug usage or mental health issues, it's just a destructive social structure that's vile to those perceived as the weakest. But they are all leeching, asking for donations, like parasitic pretentious messiahs . It's pretty gross all around to be honest that social structure of power. Sorry not sorry 🙏
Every time I see a documentary about this place I get happy goosebumps. I wish I could live there, for a while. Before I was disabled and often bed bound, I traveled, a lot. Always gravitate to the obscure, the artsy, the interesting people (or do they find me?). I so wish I knew about this place before it was too late.
When I was in the Army we used to train at Ft Irwin - about two hours north of Slab City. The Mojave Desert is some of the harshest, most unforgiving climate and landscape in the world. You could literally drink two gallons of water a day and still feel dehydrated. I don’t see how these folks do it.
I saw my friend in the video! Yeah slab city is cool to visit. Ive spent a month there and never was in danger just dont leave yourself open to getting stollen from or taken advantage of and obviously be smart and respectful
Brilliant raw and edgy but with a real honesty. The way you shot the video really complimented the story. Great video one of my favourites that you have done. Here in the Rainy UK
Hi Drew, been watching your videos for a bit while I am living aborad for the first time in my life. I LOVED the style of this one. Thank you for allowing the people of slab city to share their stories
Although the local living environment is not good, people are still content and strive to create happiness. Perhaps this is a warning! Maybe this is a model for our future survival! Thank you for taking us to the filming scene of the movie "Into the Wild", you are super great! 👍🥰🙏

Amazing that you managed to get in there and film. I've wondered what it was really like. Definitely some characters around there. Interesting that Into the Wild is your favorite movie. In 1992 I was going to university in Juneau, Alaska. The previous year I'd spent at UAF in Fairbanks. I worked in Denali Park in the summer of '91 and had another job lined up there in '92. School ended in early May, so I left Juneau, took a ferry to Haines and then hitchhiked through Canada and back into Alaska to Denali Park. This was about a week after Chris McCandless had hitchhiked part of the same route. I worked through the summer in Denali and sometime in August heard about a guy who had died outside the park. I had a subscription to Outside magazine, and a few months later got the magazine in the mail with the article that Jon Krakauer had written about what happened to Chris. It really blew me away to hear the back story of this guy who we'd only heard a shred of information about when I was working up there. Crazy story, but I can certainly identify with his quest for something other than the mainstream way of living.
Hey Drew, I've been binge-watching your channel for about a week now, and finally subbed. What you are doing for humanity, showing how much love and respect there is in this world is truly admirable.
Love this video telling style. It's just more raw and personal. This place really looks the wild west which has lost its glory days. Sometimes I wonder what really makes people stick around places like these.
It's quite a unique little town. Sad, these people, have found a place to fit in, be part of something. Thank you for letting me experience this place with you.
@@harrywinslow3946 this reminded me in a way of the street performers and such in New Orleans, sure some are locals who live in poverty in uptown, then you come across some street performers who are homeless and not native to the N.O. area but came there loved it but as some would tell me when I asked, they were stuck. Only making what someone donates to them on the street. Kinda sad hearing how they once had a life and got lost along the way.
Thanks drew. When i read your newsletter a few months ago that this video was coming out I had thought maybe you were sensationalizing addiction issues but you did not do that at all in the video, and the only talk of addiction really came from the people you were talking to. I hope your video will highlight their need for some sort of resources for the people in this town.
Watching this makes me feel kinda sad. People are trying to live their dream of an open society. And then the drug and alcohol people flock in and destroy it all. Happened as well in a hippie-commune I visited in the 90s in spain.
Ah but the "drug and alcohol" people are trying to live that dream too. They're no worse or less human than the sober people in these communities. Addiction is what destroys lives and relationships, not "drug and alcohol people." They're victims too.
@@stageiiwappie950 they are not worse and you're not a good person for saying that. Learn about the science and psychology behind addiction. It isn't the victim's fault.
@@etta5487 science lol. Addiction is for weaklings it their fault and also the fault of a bad society and social circle. I have no respect for drug addicts besides recreational users/experimenting teens
Drew , your content is good. You confirmed my practices when I visit. My advice to any visitors: bring bottled water to trade or donate. DO NOT KEEP ANYTHING OUTSIDE YOUR CAMPER LIKE A BICYCLE. You will tempt too many nerpers. Bring fresh fruit to barter or donate.Bring a good book to donate to the Free Library. If you also bring booze to the Slab City Free Library. You might be invited to a Library bottle club party. If you don't see people during the day, go visit in the early evening.
I’ve seen a lot of creators do a video in slab city and nobody ever said who was responsible for the Jesus is Love piece.I support that message. I love your videos for the research you put into these. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Drew. This was great. Reminded me of a commune I stayed at over night in NC. They had running water from a spring which was so clean way back in the day's. We decided not to stay because of all the drug's and alcohol but we were very welcomed. Thank you for sharing this with us.
My favourite movie is also Into the Wild! I think in the end slab city is a place both good and bad, just like anywhere else. If you come looking for the darker side of it, you'll find it. But if you look for warm-hearted and open minded people, you'll find them as well. I like that they are more honest and transparent about that than many other places.
I watched into the wild years ago without knowing the actual story. I enjoyed the movie and the adventure and experiences he went through but the ending always annoyed me (I know it’s based on a true story) but I kinda wish he’d have just stayed with the people he met. I was going to watch again recently but the ending just annoyed me it’s strange as normally I’d just watch the movie and carry on but the ending of it just felt like such a twist to how most of the movie went.
I love the movie and I agree with you. No person should live without other's around. It's called community. I didn't like how it ended either. Still love Eddie Vedder's voice.
@@esthersdaughterlong8149 he always seemed like a bit of a loner so I mean he could just have travelled alone and met people along the way like he was doing and didn’t he meet many nice friendly people along the way too so I hoped he’d just stay with them for some time. It just kinda annoyed me how he was portrayed as arrogant and so he went off alone and died in the middle of nowhere so sad. I say that as someone who’s a bit of a loner too but I like good company so that’s why I don’t understand him leaving good people behind to be on his own far away.
@drewbinsky I REALLY enjoyed this style of filming! Plus it is easier to "get the sneak" if needed, which it kind of looked like you did with Builder Bob there at first. All of the artwork from the beginning of the video and at the end where you were given a tour of sorts, was phenominal!
All i could think of in the first few minutes was into the wild and then you mentioned it. AND its your favorite movie ever too? Yes Drew! (Fitting though😋) love your content! One of my very very favorite youtubers , keep it up! Much love
I think its amazing how different people can be ... Some people are satisfied with a place to stay and some of them would die following their passions ... And for me whatever are your beliefs looking at this fro a bigger perspective is simply magnificent
I seen a video on slab city about 2 years ago, I actually forgot about it until your video popped up, as I follow you. Thank you for sharing, it is a place I have no desire to visit due. To the heat. The people seem pretty nice. I go to the Florida Keys in August, it was 117 degrees with the heat index. So I know I couldn't deal with 118 degree.
How's the water situation? Do they have to send runners into the major cities to come back with a water supply, do they have wells, or do they have some kind of water purifier for the canal?
Drew the way you spun that at the end of that vlog was classic. Sometimes when it looks like a duck quacks like a duck you need to call it a duck 🙌. Long time fan. Had to be honest❤
I've spent the majority of the past 2 winters in Slab city and made videos about it. It is an amazing place for those that can be there. Thanks for showing a brighter outlook on the slabs. Maybe try spending some time there next time and really see what it's like. 😎🤙
"What it's really like" sounds like it's far more harsh than this video. I find that disappointing seeing how the videos of African and Caribbean nations show the full harshness and danger. I'd hoped this vlog wasn't white-washed. Sounds like it likely is biased towards eurocentric expectations rather than bare-faced reality. Not hating, ijs...
Slab City is not lawless even if the police tend to avoid it. It is also not really off the grid. It is very much connected to the nation's road network. It is also served by the Imperial County Sheriff's Department and the Niland Fire Department…only the residents don't pay taxes for those services
The majority of Slabbers who have electricity, use generators. There is a gas tax in California that is about 50% of the per gallon cost. If you look at the reason that tax is being collected and how the money from that tax is disbursed you will find that Local emergency services and first responders are listed as the primary benefactors of that tax. I constantly dare people to go to our Gas Station and say that we are Slabbers and we don't pay taxes so take that gas tax off our bill. Unfortunately, people love electricity way more than getting banned from the gas station. With that said as a result of the high gas prices, Gov. Newsom gave a type of stimulus called the middle class tax rebate. I have not talked to any Slabbers that got this refund.
No laws? I was at Slab City 2 days ago. There are signs everywhere regulating where you can go, who you can photograph, how fast you can drive. Private property, no trespassing, dangerous dogs...
And you could put up a sign that says "You don't have to follow any of the rules on these other signs" lol, random people put up all those signs, putting up a sign doesn't make it real or a law that has to be followed... nobody owns any of that property (well the government does I believe but not any of the people living there, lol) so none of it is private property no matter what the sign says, someone who doesn't own the property can't tell you not to trespass, you can photograph anyone there legally, etc. lol
"You are good. But it is not enough just to be good. You must be good for something. You must contribute good to the world. The world must be a better place for your presence. And the good that is in you must be spread to others."
Hey Drew what an enlightening and interesting video as usual!! I found it somewhat like the atmosphere was back here in England in the late 80's early 90's . When the rave scene took a grip of my teenage way of thinking! Lol. What extraordinary adventures you get up to. Tahiti blew my mind!!! Many thanks Drew, English Paul. X
I've always found Slab City fascinating and love the creativity! I just can't imagine living without running water and A/C. How do the residents bathe?
Drew! Dude your content is always great and this is no exception! Thank you for finding such unique and interesting communities, people and ways of life and bringing them to light for all of us.
I appreciate this style way more tbh. It feels way more engaging to let me hear other people's stories. Just please try to put the sponsor somewhere else for pacing
I never realized that "Kesha - Praying" music video was shot in slab city, I thought it was just a set they built. As he walked by the TV wall I was like hey that looks like... wait that looks like... hey wait.... oh
Love your videos mate! I think a combination works depending on the video but this worked out great here and if you enjoy this style more go with it. Into the Wild is one of my favourites as well 🙌Nothing like hitting the road, meeting new people and different cultures!
It is a memorable I’ve seen in your travel vlog very artistic and accommodating people you meet..thank you for this wonderful travel and advance merry Christmas ❤
Lived in Slab City for 12 years, just left about 3 months ago,too bad you missed Dot, she's right in front of East Jesus, House of Dots, lots of cool art in that camp, its a must visit if you go to the slabs Edit: i don't miss the 120+ degree temperature in the brutal summers, had my fair share of heat strokes 🙂
I have watched a lot of videos about the slabs before and I feel like this video barely scratched the surface. Maybe do a return video for wintertime when the slabs are at peak population? I think places like this will exist no matter what, especially with the rising cost of living. People have lived out there for a long time by choice, but more and more will be in that situation because they are without a choice.
You could do a similar video on quartzite az. In about a month the winter residents will start showing up in mass. And there’s also burning man and so on and so forth. Wonderhussy is an interesting person on UA-cam that makes videos about the south west. Slab City and the Sultan Sea are definitely some of the more interesting places in the desert west. But care must be taken as meth and fentanyl are out of control
Its technically not a lawless city(as its under California property and there for has to follow california's laws), but neitherless, it looks pretty interesting, a city that was basically looks straight like a hippietown.
We visited slab city earlier in the year- we only got out at salvation mountain- it was a bit surreal- but realized these people have to still interact with society for food and water since there isn’t any farming out there. Really not lawless- but no property laws I suppose. I love the raw style
Wow, this is a lot to take in. First, I'd like to reiterate that I appreciate you showing us places that we wouldn't normally see or know about. After watching this video I just feel sad. Builder Bill said he's got nowhere else to go which I will take as a statement that speaks for the majority of people who live there, I can't imagine that woman raising kids out there. Yes, the people there have friends and the woman who got you coffee said that there is always something to do but the place feels lonely to me.
Lately this people life is amazing to learn, anxiety is real and could hurt ourselves so badly my older brother is a homeless and still love him and think of him even if he's struggling a lot with drugs and anxiety. Even for myself that have a job and able to provide for my family i have struggled as well, we've just need to find a way to keep moving forward through out this world. Love to see this people trying there best to live.
you need to visit tios tacos in riverside ca :) one of my favorite places to eat! reminds me so much of the recycled art that's everywhere in slab city ❤
Love all your content and hosting skills Drew! I have watched many documentaries about Slab City, people go there because there are no bills life is hard there but there are really interesting places and modified trailers and school busses there. Besafe !!
My girlfriends and I got an impromptu tour of East Jesus and Slab City once. One of the girls was a Burner so she knew about about East Jesus so we all stopped out there to see the art. A really cool man came out of the gates of Slab City, introduced himself, started giving us the history and cool facts of the art. He asked if we wanted a tour of Slab City. He told us that everyone was chill, so long as you respected them and their home. It was one of the coolest experiences ever. They make do with a lot less modern conveniences that we all just take for granted but some people are incredibly smart with how they repurpose things. So little really goes to waste out there. And it’s definitely not lawless. The other residents are maybe ok with drugs and behaviors that we would all give people the side eye for but because of their communal living, they have to be considerate of others in ways that I definitely don’t living in my own house.

the young generation escape responsibilities and just want to party and use drugs there.
@@CalamityAmberAuraOracle yeah you’re probably right but it’s hard to tell when I haven’t been there myself
"Everyone eventually takes their turn at being unpleasant" this is THE man
Every time I see a documentary about this place I get happy goosebumps. I wish I could live there, for a while. Before I was disabled and often bed bound, I traveled, a lot. Always gravitate to the obscure, the artsy, the interesting people (or do they find me?). I so wish I knew about this place before it was too late.
May you travel again my friend
When I was in the Army we used to train at Ft Irwin - about two hours north of Slab City. The Mojave Desert is some of the harshest, most unforgiving climate and landscape in the world. You could literally drink two gallons of water a day and still feel dehydrated. I don’t see how these folks do it.
Acclimated
I saw my friend in the video! Yeah slab city is cool to visit. Ive spent a month there and never was in danger just dont leave yourself open to getting stollen from or taken advantage of and obviously be smart and respectful
The fact that we get free travel videos from Drew Binsky on UA-cam is priceless.., keeping the knowledge and entertainment alive. 👏👏👏
Brilliant raw and edgy but with a real honesty. The way you shot the video really complimented the story. Great video one of my favourites that you have done. Here in the Rainy UK
Thanks Guy!
The fact they deliver to slab city is the ultimate Amazon commercial
Hi Drew, been watching your videos for a bit while I am living aborad for the first time in my life. I LOVED the style of this one. Thank you for allowing the people of slab city to share their stories
Thanks for your support!
This is where Trevor from GTA is from

Although the local living environment is not good, people are still content and strive to create happiness. Perhaps this is a warning!
Maybe this is a model for our future survival!

Whoever is reading this, I wanted to say I hope you have a great day and that God loves you so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to die on a cross for your sins and He rose again from the dead three days later. God Bless!
And also, He doesn't want you to go to Hell, but He wants you to go to Heaven with Him but you have to be Saved. How do I get Saved you might ask? Here are the steps below on how to get Saved!
1. Believe that God sent His Son
(Jesus) to die on a cross for your sins and that He rose again from the dead 3 days later.
2. Confess to Jesus that you are a sinner and ask forgiveness for your sins and Turn away from your sins. If you sin again after asking forgiveness of that sin, ask forgiveness again and try not to do it ever again. Jesus will forgive you!
3. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and your life and for Him to be your Lord and Savior forever.
4. Build a Personal Relationship with Jesus by Praying and Reading the Bible daily and Live for Him Forever.
I'm Praying for you and you are loved
(Romans 10:9-13
Wow man that’s crazy! Thanks for sharing!
We appreciate your dedication and hard work, Drew. We all know for a fact you're capable of overcoming challenges. Bless you and your loves ones.
outcasts says it all , why called outcasts because they live as such because outcasted
My heart breaks for all of them, because of whatever they have gone through to end up in this community. I'm glad they are alive there.
Hey Drew, I've been binge-watching your channel for about a week now, and finally subbed.
What you are doing for humanity, showing how much love and respect there is in this world is truly admirable.
Thank you so much!
Yeah I'm hooked too lol. Amazing content
Love this video telling style. It's just more raw and personal. This place really looks the wild west which has lost its glory days. Sometimes I wonder what really makes people stick around places like these.
Thank you for the feedback!
Poverty
yea forsure poverty but I also think the isolation but still the feel of community
@@etta5487but they are worse. Sober is better period
More than that, it also gives a bad rap to those trying to seek freedom in the midst of all of this turmoil.
Social media is killing us, people think it’s a lawless city, but it’s not.
Drew’s title - “America’s last Lawless City.” Come on man
Cry more 😂 You got the message didn’t you? 😅
I’ve seen a lot of creators do a video in slab city and nobody ever said who was responsible for the Jesus is Love piece.I support that message. I love your videos for the research you put into these. ❤️❤️❤️
go check out episode from good ole hewel howser RIP he films and talks with the trevor.. i think 2 times years apart
insane, slab city is like isolated but when there are new visitors they are very welcome, perfect example of dont judge a book by its cover
I've camped there a few times. Been to the Range on a Saturday night.
There's a hot spring too.
U have open my mind i didn't think that dis a place like dat on dis world keep dos eye opener videos n be blessed
@drewbinsky I REALLY enjoyed this style of filming! Plus it is easier to "get the sneak" if needed, which it kind of looked like you did with Builder Bob there at first. All of the artwork from the beginning of the video and at the end where you were given a tour of sorts, was phenominal!
Love the shout out to the into the wild movie! Best movie ever made and i will always remember Salvation mountain from it😁
All i could think of in the first few minutes was into the wild and then you mentioned it. AND its your favorite movie ever too? Yes Drew! (Fitting though😋) love your content! One of my very very favorite youtubers , keep it up! Much love
I think raw and cinematic are both useful depending on the story. Raw definitely suits Slab City!
Thx for the feedback!
I think its amazing how different people can be ... Some people are satisfied with a place to stay and some of them would die following their passions ... And for me whatever are your beliefs looking at this fro a bigger perspective is simply magnificent
Slab city was one of my favorite wintertime stops during my travels. Gotta spend time at the hot spring! That’s where the good vibes are at
I seen a video on slab city about 2 years ago, I actually forgot about it until your video popped up, as I follow you.
Drew gets told social media portrays slabcity as a place where there are no laws
Drew’s response: putting “city with no laws” in the thumb nail
The only way to see how docile the community is , spot a pink car . Great video ,Drew! Completely raw
that car is 1000 percent stolen
Drew the way you spun that at the end of that vlog was classic. Sometimes when it looks like a duck quacks like a duck you need to call it a duck 🙌. Long time fan. Had to be honest❤
I've spent the majority of the past 2 winters in Slab city and made videos about it. It is an amazing place for those that can be there. Thanks for showing a brighter outlook on the slabs. Maybe try spending some time there next time and really see what it's like. 😎🤙
Awesome !! I bet it’s quite different in winter !
Not hating, ijs...
slab city is awesome, make sure to bring beer , money or something, if you want to be shown around and welcomed.
"everyone takes their turn at being unpleasant"
Very true
The lady that was with you and showed you around was super nice!

You have a good way of connecting without being overbearing or a “journalist “ .
This style format works really well imo ,thanks for vid
Love that you mentioned the movie, “Into the Wild”. Really great movie!
I had a Friend die out there a Few years or so back from Dehydration. Hope ya'll safe down there.
We drove through this last week. It was interesting. I am sad that we did not talk to the locals and bring a few supplies. I plan on visiting again!
Loved this style and keeping low key as you get the stories- are you worried at all about raising its profile? It’s sad and beautiful all together 😢
Really cool place ! I wish the government that abandoned the area would go back and give them running water and sanitation services dang at least
Reminds me of Radiator Springs from the Movie Cars
Slab city is great and it’s good to see people can go live somewhere outside of the what’s considered normal.
I think you are incredible drew and it is so cool to go to every country
Good job on drew for putting 3 seat covers for the homeless lady 😅
Drew you are the epitomy of the most perfect content creator !! Thank you for taking me on ur journeys 💜🙌🏽

Hey Drew what an enlightening and interesting video as usual!! I found it somewhat like the atmosphere was back here in England in the late 80's early 90's . When the rave scene took a grip of my teenage way of thinking! Lol.

Lived in Slab City for 12 years, just left about 3 months ago,too bad you missed Dot, she's right in front of East Jesus, House of Dots, lots of cool art in that camp, its a must visit if you go to the slabs
Edit: i don't miss the 120+ degree temperature in the brutal summers, had my fair share of heat strokes 🙂
I saw her in some one else's video, loved her!
I'm very sure there was many negative things happen to you on this trip, I appreciate you keeping it mostly positive Drew. Good stuff, big fan.
I wanted to go in summer to see the hardcore residents
You could do a similar video on quartzite az. In about a month the winter residents will start showing up in mass. And there’s also burning man and so on and so forth. Wonderhussy is an interesting person on UA-cam that makes videos about the south west. Slab City and the Sultan Sea are definitely some of the more interesting places in the desert west. But care must be taken as meth and fentanyl are out of control
Its technically not a lawless city(as its under California property and there for has to follow california's laws), but neitherless, it looks pretty interesting, a city that was basically looks straight like a hippietown.
Good night from PAPUA NEW GUINEA. I enjoyed watching your contents
We visited slab city earlier in the year- we only got out at salvation mountain- it was a bit surreal- but realized these people have to still interact with society for food and water since there isn’t any farming out there. Really not lawless- but no property laws I suppose. I love the raw style
Thanks, Drew. This was well done!
Awesome video!!!! I appreciate how you are not judgmental of other ways of life!!!!
Not judgmental, just extremely curious!

It's sad to see little kids out there.
Why?

Wow, this is a lot to take in. First, I'd like to reiterate that I appreciate you showing us places that we wouldn't normally see or know about. After watching this video I just feel sad. Builder Bill said he's got nowhere else to go which I will take as a statement that speaks for the majority of people who live there, I can't imagine that woman raising kids out there. Yes, the people there have friends and the woman who got you coffee said that there is always something to do but the place feels lonely to me.
4:20 what kinda meff contraption is on that torch lol?!
I love to settle in Slab City
Lately this people life is amazing to learn, anxiety is real and could hurt ourselves so badly my older brother is a homeless and still love him and think of him even if he's struggling a lot with drugs and anxiety. Even for myself that have a job and able to provide for my family i have struggled as well, we've just need to find a way to keep moving forward through out this world. Love to see this people trying there best to live.
