I'm from Saskatoon Saskatchewan, and I drive truck every night for work! I see the northern lights often, especially in the winter. Our provinces slogan is Land of the Living Skies, and it couldn't be more true. The further north you go, the better they get, but they are everywhere. There's nothing like being out on the road all alone in the middle of nowhere at 2am, watching the lights dance across the sky through your windshield.

Hello From Mexico. Last April, my son and myself traveled to Utquiavik for a couple of days as part of a Alaska trip for my 50th. The first time I read about Barrow I was probably 8-10, could not understand why and how people could live there. We were there for less than 40 hours but everything is just so out of our everyday life, it felt like a lifetime of adventures. Your video is just amazing. I saw it with my son and kept going: remember that?! We were there! Congrats for having the best channel on travel and people. Your channel is an inspiration for anyone with the travel bug.

My goodness they act just like my people on the Seminole reservation. Everyone just teases each other pretty hard. But that means they like you. And besides teasing, everybody always keeps a sense of humor and seem pretty happy and friendly. But I would say out of all the character attributes, the teasing/sense of humor is the biggest trait.
This is so awesome! I was born and raised in Alaska, near the Bering Sea originally. Moved out of state four years ago for better opportunities, but the memories of traveling to the North Slope are ones I'll never forget. Thank you for showing my home state and all the awesome people there!

I feel that this privileged white man who can afford to play 'explorer' for his own profit online is very undeserving of your kind words. His ignorance and entitlement are quite repulsive and very indicative of Murica. He immediately asked indigenous people if they are 'proud americans' and when the response wasn't an enthusiastic yes, he went on to remind them that they indulge in 'the economic benefits of being part of the US'-otherwise they would starve. He also went for 'subtly' creating manufactured tension through pitting them against people who have access to plant based/vegan products by manipulatively asking about the killing of whales. His excitement around guns is also telling. This lazy account of him doing nothing but exploiting clickbait titles while traveling first class and promoting credit cards for sponsorship is just further funding his lifestyle which couldn't be further from a cultural documentary. It's just a lazy white guy having fun for himself with other people's money while pretending he is doing some public service.
I actually traveled to Fairbanks Alaska last January to see the northern lights. I was there for a week and seen them multiple times. It was a dream come true and definitely worth it. On that trip I added Burrow to my bucket list of places to visit, so this was really cool to see. Thanks for showing people the world

Compared to life in NYC, I wouldn’t mind traveling to Barrow, Alaska as it looks so peaceful there and the people are so heartwarming. I really do admire them living their lives there and preserving their culture. Thank You Drew for sharing this!!!
In the 1970's a friend of mine moved to Alaska during the pipeline construction. He was a diesel mechanic. He moved back to Cleveland Ohio briefly and hated it. Moved back to Alaska. Eventually moved to Wyoming.
Hi Drew! Watching from Slovakia! I'm an American living with my husband and daughter in the valley between the Low and High Tatra mountains (soothingly beautiful, worth coming) and I love this video because I flew to Barrow for a weekend from Fairbanks while I was working for a summer in Denali National Park. It was August, but it was still about 30 degrees F. I did a polar plunge (the water was 28 degrees F, low but not frozen due to the salt content.) I loved my time there, especially seeing the traditional dancing. Great destination for winter solstice.
I am originally from Thailand and moved to Barrow in 2005 - 2017. It was definitely a couture shock for me. I've made so many friends when I used to live in Barrow. Nothing much to do up there, so we party a lot😅. I am currently living in Anchorage now, and I miss people I've met there🙂
I grew up in North Dakota, we saw the Northern Lights often, especially in winter. They are beautiful and we thought they were no big deal, but enjoyable to see. I now live in Minneapolis, and on rare occasions one can see the Northern Lights here if you can get away from the city lights. The farther north one goes from Minneapolis, the more frequent they are.
Used to crab for Dungee when I was younger with my grandpa all over AK. The people in these small towns are some of the kindest and most down to Earth people ever, makes me miss it a lot!
thank you drew, for making one of the best videos I've ever watched on youtube. You know, it is definetly a huge culture shock seeing those people in this frozen city living in a totally different way than I do here in Brazil. This video even made me want to go to Barrow just to have this unique experience. If you ever want to visit southern Brazil, remember that I can have you here at my house for a few days :)
I remember as a kid watching a TV show called “Football Town” on the NFL Network. It took place in Barrow, Alaska and was about a Barrow, Alaska High School Football team and the difficulties they face being so far away from any other High School Football Team and what it’s like playing football on top of the world LITERALLY. I loved that show and never would’ve thought almost 10 years later I’d see someone I watch all the time mention this place let alone visit it.
As someone from Northern Canada, also in a smaller community, I compeltely agree with a lot of what these folks are saying about loving to live there. The temperatures and lifestyle are similar. (they are much more remote than I). I love being able to store stuff outside in the winter. It's currenlty -17c here and snowing (which is warm for February). It's not uncommon to see -40c plus a windchill. It's peacful and beautiful. The gentleman that spoke about not moving for a billion dollars, coudn't agree more. There's a place for everyone. These folks seem so kind and joyful, and honestly remind me so much of our locals. I'd love to visit Alaska. (But we get Amazon is 3 days to a week lol)
Keep up your great work Drew! I love how you don't focus on yourself or a partner, like so many travel vloggers do. You keep the focus on the people you meet and the places, and that's what makes your channel special. Love it!
As someone from a tiny town in southern KY, I have always had an affinity for the cold, the remote, the far away places. Alaska, New England, Scandinavia, Siberia, Canada…it’s so fun to see you give them their due with a nice lengthy video! Alaska is near the top of my bucket list of travel destinations! Hope you get to see the Northern Lights soon and looking forward to seeing what kinda mischief you can get into when you visit Nunavut.
19:17 whaaddd he saaayyyy?? all jokes, this video and your syria one have been some of the most eye opening videos I have seen in a while, you've been crushing it with the quality of these recently :)
My father lives in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, and every time I go up there during winter (which is very similar to the Barrow winters), you can basically see the northern lights every day. Some days you can see it better than others. It's extremely surreal and beautiful in person! However, Svalbard is actually too far north of the arctic circle to have a chance to see the northern lights. My best suggestion for the highest chance is Northern Norway/Northern Sweden/Northern FInland, or Iceland (although Iceland is quite cloudy most of the time). It's worth the hunt!
I love how close and tight knit the comunity there is. It feels like its a big family all living up there. I have to work in some very extreme conditions and i can tell u from experience that that kind of cold can really bring out the best in people who just wanna survive and be warm again. The dad was awesome
I worked there for a couple years and you captured it very well! The culture is amazing and you should go back for the cultural festivals, dances and hunting. They have great northern lights too. Very special place 😊
The dad is hilarious 😂😂😂 “ good thing you didn’t see a bear 🐻 you wouldn’t need a ride you would run all the way here “ 😂😂😂😂😂😂 what a great family and community except the dog he was a mean 1
Love this video. My grandfather was a whaler, and my family in the Bequia, along with the Eskimos, are two of the only groups allowed to still whale for food. I love this video so much, just seeing the peace on everyone's face...you cannot put a price tag on happiness and natural living. Thank you for sharing their slice of life for all of us to partake in and learn.
Drew's exploration reveals the unique blend of extreme conditions and warm community spirit. From the northernmost point to local cuisine, this video captures the essence of life at the top of the world.
Again, such an amazing video. Because of people like you, we can see towns, meet people, hear storys from the most remote places of the earth. Without you, i wouldn't even know, Barrel exists. Thank you, for taking us with you on this adventure. Lovely. Looking forward to the next one.
I used to work in Yellowknife, NWT, Canada. The Northern Lights are so incredible that Yellowknife attracts more tourists in winter than summer, many of whom come primarily to see the lights.
They should do a tv documentary about you and your travel destinations! You're amazing! I never get bored of your videos and you're always so nice and respectful toward others. Sending love from Italy 😊
Hi Drew! Watching your vlog all the way from the famous Gold Rush town in Alaska. Nome, Alaska! I’m a Filipina married to an American and staying here for a year now🤗. I finally seen the Northern lights from here too and it was awesome! I hope you can come and visit here too🤗
Drew, awesome video & adventure. Thanks for taking us all with you on the journey of the northern most point of the United States. The people of Barrow seem to be amazingly friendly. Ace & his girlfriend, family are awesome 👍. I'm from Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania USA 🇺🇲
I live in the Midwest, but I've gone up to Alaska 4 times now just for tourism, its such a beautiful and magical place! I've explored most of the country, and been twice in the winter, twice in the summer, and it's so amazing seeing the midnight sun in the summer! I've also seen the northern lights in Fairbanks Alaska, in a small pullover away from the city center.
Hey Drew, I am from India, Mumbai and I have traveled extensively in Europe and was lucky enough to watch the Northern Light effect in Finland, Roveniemi. You should either try for Northern lights in Finland or Iceland or Norway. It all depends on the weather condition with perfect clear sky on a dark winter night. Definitely with a little bit of luck .... :)
I saw the Northern lights in the Arctic Circle middle of September before winter. The view from there and seeing the Northern Lights over the plains was breath taking. I'd visit Alaska again just to see the lights.
Hello from San Francisco! I unexpectedly saw the northern lights when doing a middle of the night security shift in northern Minnesota (Red Lake Treaty Camp near St. Hilaire, MN). I also didn't know you could see the northern lights in the US. I love the way so many of your videos are very community-based!
Amazing to know how those people survived this place but they’ve been adapted to it , yet good to know they continue the traditions their ancestors left behind .I was blown away that inspite of this harsh kind of environment there , you can see their smile and take life as if it’s just an ordinary one for them . Thank you Drew for your blogs that showed me how it is living there I was able to see that life is really a survival wherever we are in this world .🥰
Drew, just stumbled into your channel and I feel like I have been living under a rock-why haven’t I seen your videos before! Thank you for doing this particular video, providing such a joyous acceptance of all mankind and unusual locations. Right on brother, Peace to you from Southern Idaho soon to be Alaskan again!

I have lived in Iqaluit, Nunavut in Canada for nearly two years. Very similar experience. Brought back some memories, while watching your video. As a German citizen coming to Canada for the first time on a work permit, this has been quite the adventure. Living in near darkness during the wintertime and almost broad day light around the clock in summer time is some experience... Great content as always Drew! Can't wait for my son to be grown, so I could pick up the extensive travel adventures again ✌️
As a native to the north, this was fun to watch. I thought everyone knew about engine block heaters! Hope you get to see the northern lights next time.
We spent November/December searching for the Northern Lights. We saw them in Iceland, Finland, and Norway and documented it all on our channel 😉 hope you get to see the Northern Lights soon! They are amazing and worth going out of your way to see them!
And if you're looking for great northern lights, just a step outside my cabin door here in North Pole, Alaska and a look straight up will give you a front row seat (yes, North Pole, Alaska).
I’ve seen the northern lights twice in my life in Wisconsin and they are amazing!! Honestly breathtaking when you see them shimmer and dance like lighting but a million times more majestic and mesmerizing.

Wow, this video was absolutely stunning! The cinematography was breathtaking, and the editing was seamless. I felt like I was right there, experiencing the beauty of the city firsthand. I loved the way you captured the local culture, the food, and the people. It was so inspiring and made me want to pack my bags and go explore. I was particularly impressed by the family dinner. It was so unique and unforgettable. I also appreciated how you included the raw whale meat. It added a whole new layer to my understanding of the place. Overall, this was an amazing travel video that I'll definitely be watching your channel again and again. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Northern Lights can sometimes be seen here in Scotland in late spring and early autumn, the farther north you go, of course, the higher the chances are of seeing them. Places like the Shetland and Orkney Isles are used to seeing them on a regular basis. Of course... the weather has to be on your side too!
I’m watching this from the middle of Ohio. For some unknown reason I’ve been fascinated by Barrow Alaska ever since I discovered it existed. I often ask Alexa randomly what’s the temperature in Barrow just to stay on top of what little knowledge I have about this town, so I am very pleased with all this information. I wish you would refer to it by its native name, which, of course I cannot even begin to spell.

Very awesome man! Alaska seems like a beautiful place to grow up for me! Hopefully one day i can visit it as it's been a dream for long

Is it true that the berring sea used to freeze and the people could cross from Russia to Alaska..?
Alaska is actually a state I'd like to go to. Barrow looks very interesting. It looks a lot like Yakutia, Russia. Nice, Drew! I'm gonna have to start planning all of my trips one day 😂😂
I've lived in Alaska for 6 years now. It's like no other place in the country
Yes reminds me also on Siberia 😁
Greetings from Lagos, Nigeria! I want to express my gratitudeDrew for enlightening us about the parts of the world that we may have never imagined existed. Your channel is akin to a cultural documentary, which has helped me to develop a deeper appreciation for our planet. Thank you so much...🙏🙏🙏
Nice to meet you!😊
Do you have your PVC? Use it well!!!!
Nigeria and Barrow Alaska are the complete opposites! Equator with hot jungles vs freezing cold places where the sun doesn't rise for months!
@@Homer-OJ-SimpsonNigeria is more of savanna
Ace and his family are so hilarious. Such wonderful hosts and guides.
I actually traveled to Fairbanks Alaska last January to see the northern lights. I was there for a week and seen them multiple times. It was a dream come true and definitely worth it. On that trip I added Burrow to my bucket list of places to visit, so this was really cool to see. Thanks for showing people the world
I saw them in Fairbanks too!
That's where I saw it too.
oh you went to alaska on my birthday! I wish i couldve gone there
Sure thing! I'm watching this video from the comfort of my living room. How about you? Let's share our locations in the comments below! Sending love to everyone!
I stayed on the military bases ft wainwright in Fairbanks for 3 years and I seen them often in the winter
Ace and his family were so wholesome. Great video Drew, and thanks for showing me these places that I will never be able to see.
They are the best!!!!
I used to live in barrow! My Husband and I were Pastors at the cornerstone church (big red church) so cool to see your visit there!
It's so cool how this town is like a mix of American culture, native culture, and northern culture all mixed into one. Fascinating.
this is how i get through hard times. figuratively traveling the world with Drew. learning about whats important in each. thanks Drew

The Korean lady had the best answer …clean air and people with warm hearts. It is so rare to find people so real.
I'm a Filipino and I live here in the Philippines and I love watching videos like this I first saw your video when you came here to visit our country and thank you for visiting us here I hope you can make more videos here in our country really appreciate it.
Alaska is my home! I am also inupiaq! ❤❤❤thanks for sharing our culture and experiencing our way of life! ❤❤❤
Compared to life in NYC, I wouldn’t mind traveling to Barrow, Alaska as it looks so peaceful there and the people are so heartwarming. I really do admire them living their lives there and preserving their culture. Thank You Drew for sharing this!!!
If you are dark though you gotta take vitamin d tablets just a heads up judging from your pfp, I’m dark and in Sweden so yeah
@@jsgv7935 i’m about medium brown but yeah thanks for the heads up I would probably need some vitamin D tablets.
In the 1970's a friend of mine moved to Alaska during the pipeline construction. He was a diesel mechanic. He moved back to Cleveland Ohio briefly and hated it. Moved back to Alaska. Eventually moved to Wyoming.
Stay in NY. You have no clue what your getting yourself into besides, New Yorkers have an attitude problem
NYC is the last place I’d ever live 😅
Best Travel Channel on the Web!
You embody what it means to be a citizen of the world . Good Stuff Drew
If you like him you’ll also like #YesTheory - sometimes they do travel clips together with Drew definitely worth checking out their collaborations 👍
Fearless and far !
Gets me excited to go back to Svalbard next week! I’ve only been to the Scandinavian arctic, but truly some of my favorite people on earth
Used to crab for Dungee when I was younger with my grandpa all over AK. The people in these small towns are some of the kindest and most down to Earth people ever, makes me miss it a lot!
32:25 this video was so well done. I’ve never met you or any of these people, but I feel like I know them after this video! I love it!
thank you drew, for making one of the best videos I've ever watched on youtube.
It's cold but they look so happy there. Thanks for the video👍
Are you from Nunavut? I'm heading there next!!
Wanna go there one day
@@drewbinsky I am from Alberta and I always wanted to go and visit Nunavut. I hope you will enjoy it there!!
I saw the northern lights in Iqaluit and Rankin, Nunavut. Good luck catching them, Drew!
@@drewbinsky Have fun!! It's going to be a legendary experience!
The people of this city are very kind hearted and open with their experiences and life. Wow!
What a lovely bunch of people, the climate may be cold but the people seem very warm😊
There is a youtuber who lives in Longyearbyen...simply love her channel...it's great we can see amazing parts of our world from our lounge room 🇦🇺🐨

I love how close and tight knit the comunity there is. It feels like its a big family all living up there. I have to work in some very extreme conditions and i can tell u from experience that that kind of cold can really bring out the best in people who just wanna survive and be warm again. I worked there for a couple years and you captured it very well! The culture is amazing and you should go back for the cultural festivals, dances and hunting. They have great northern lights too. Very special place 😊

Absolutely love the vibe of the eskimos! They are so calm and seem like they’re really easy to get along with :)
Aren’t they called Inuit?
You can tell just how clean the air is up there!! Very ❄️🥶 but so clean!! Such beautiful sights...
Hello I'm working on a documentary about neighbor disputes and was curious if I talk to your town.

I've been obsessed with that town since 2017. Great to finally see an amazing documentary about it!
Planning on visiting one day :)
You’re the first UA-camr to motivate me to travel the world.
Amazing to know how those people survived this place but they’ve been adapted to it , yet good to know they continue the traditions their ancestors left behind .I was blown away that inspite of this harsh kind of environment there , you can see their smile and take life as if it’s just an ordinary one for them . Thank you Drew for your blogs that showed me how it is living there I was able to see that life is really a survival wherever we are in this world .🥰
Such beautiful people ❤

I have lived in Iqaluit, Nunavut in Canada for nearly two years. Very similar experience. Brought back some memories, while watching your video. As a German citizen coming to Canada for the first time on a work permit, this has been quite the adventure. Living in near darkness during the wintertime and almost broad day light around the clock in summer time is some experience... Great content as always Drew!

I wish Ace had a UA-cam channel.
Would love to have a dedicated UA-cam channel for Barrow.
That's a good idea. I'd watch a simple vlog of daily life in Barrow. It would be very entertaining.
I’ve seen a few stories and short videos about Barrow but this is amazing! You truly show so many aspects of real life in Northern Alaska. Subscribed to your channel and can’t wait to see more like this!
