The fact that we have to reassure ourselves about being allowed to like things just goes to show how far we’ve fallen
Yeah, I like a fair amount of kids stuff, and as early as I think 10 I overheard comments to my dad about needing to get me out of it,and in general over time it kinda made me embarrassed to be myself. (on top of my anxiety) I feel like I'm supposed to be like 12 or so years younger than I actually am. After seeing that comment had to get that out of me.

I actually kept myself from watching any anime for years in fear of being judged for watching it. I even pretended that I thought anime was stupid just so I could attempt to fit in with the people around me. It really sucks how judgement from others can cause people to not try things they are interested in.

I was guilty of this in middle school, and then I went to highschool and found a new group of friends that were less judgemental and toxic. My new friends even helped me get into anime and gave me some good recommendations which was very cool. One of my favorite memories from that era was hanging out with my buddies and binging Death Note together, since it was my first time watching.
I'm part of a fandom which is always judged as screaming teenage girls (many of us are adults though)..but yeah I dismiss the stereotyping and always remind myself that I'm allowed to like things despite the odds.
Reminds me of how plenty of Games I both Play and Don’t Play but know about, often get described as “The game that 9 y/o’s play” when in reality I see full grown men stream it casually, fun times.

I realized two years later that this video may have inspired me to pursue what I previously considered “guilty pleasures” that I liked, but would never admit to liking. For instance, I like watching animatics, even when I have no clue what the animator is animating. That confidence boost led to me trying new things I considered cringe such as Monster Prom and Deltarune, and they’re now two of my favorite games. Thanks, Dom. I appreciate your stuff and miss your uploads, but you definitely deserve a break after being on UA-cam for so many years.
this is really accurate! rewatching this again but i already overcome this phase. i use to have criterias before (mentally) accepting co-fans. but i still have this mentality to not order the same things ordered by people i know because i feel guilty and i don’t want them to think that i’m copying them. even though i head over heels love that something.

Well, when I was a kid, i liked girly stuff, but as i got older, i turned into a tomboy and it was no phase, it was the new me. I started to like boyish things during elementary school and middle school. But things changed, i started to like cute things again during high school and i realized something, I'm actually my own tomboy. Society told me things about tomboys, what they should and what they shouldn't like.

Last year I tried my best to fit in class, in my family and group of friends. Do what they also do, hate what they hate and act like how they act. Though it took a long time to be myself, I'm starting to get a hold of it so thanks Dom, really helpful and will try to become confident about myself.

Over a year ago I got into One Piece,and I watched a recap video of every chapter arc,because one I don’t have the time to go over 1000 chapters and two it’s really overwhelming of how much catching up I had to do.And after watching a recap of One Piece,I felt bad because what got me into One was it’s appeal,and then after a while I realized that so what if I didn’t go through the anime I still like the franchise I don’t have to have so much knowledge of the franchise.

Am I the only one that watches animated videos on UA-cam (Domics, Jaiden Animations, TheOdd1sOut, Tabbes and many more) incredibly often? When I'm just doing something I let the videos run in the background and find it very comforting and enjoyable... Man, their content is amazing, I love it :)))

I feel like everyone has been "made fun of" just because of something they like. I know I have and it wasn't fun to hide my interests for literal years until I found a friend who liked the same things as me. Can society just grow up please?

I was made fun of in middle school for being interested in aviation, so I looked up two photos of similar looking planes (b717 and md80) and told them to tell me which ones which. They couldn’t tell and so I proceeded to shame them for being idiots, and pointed out all the differences and “Oh ItS sO oBvIoUs HoW cAn YoU nOt TeLl”.
They were my close friends and we ended up having a good laugh about it afterwards

Like once I came out of the bathroom with a Tokyo Ghoul shirt and she said, and I quote "why don't you wear another shirt, that one makes you look like a boy." Or once I was just looking at pokemon stuff at barnes and noble and get told "aren't you too old for that?" Or she'd pick up the advenger shirt my mom bought me when we went to see endgame and my grandma asking my mom if she thought she had a boy. Also apparently my grandma has pulled my mom aside and asked "is she gay?" Only because of the fact I don't hang out with people 24/7 and not wanting to be with any guy. I have so much stories on how it feels to be told that basically, being a weeb is wrong.
Also may I add that according to my grandma, undertale and gravity falls isn't exactly allowed

Sometimes, family can be wrong, because humans can be wrong, and the majority of families are human. Even if not human, sometimes pets can be wrong too. No one is immune. Harassment on that level is not okay for anyone to do, family or not. That is not okay. I feel like I need to emphasize this here. Carry on.

I hate people like this. I have a wide range of interests but people keep on trying to put me in certain groups. I like anime, I also play football and other sports. I like every kind of music. I play video games, a lot of them. Yet I like chess and strategy games. I also love farming and working on cars, as well as going in hikes. Yet people keep on judging me when I do anything and put me in a specific group. It's really annoying and pisses me off.
