Thanks for this! I have a tuberose (orange) in my yard for the second year and am still waiting for caterpillars 🐛

The Monarch butterfly WILL lay their eggs on the TOP of milkweed leaves.
I live in MN, and unfortunately we have had some of the communicable diseases that kill Monarchs on occasion.
I do NOT recommend keeping the caterpillars together.
I DO recommend cleaning up with a 10% bleach solution.
The video footage of the caterpillar shaking off the shed skin as it transformed into a chrysalis was AWESOME ! ! !

Mary, Thank you for your kind comment. The following recommendation is from Kay MacNeil: I recommend that you stay away from common milkweed (asclepias syriaca) as it is a bit too aggressive for city yards. Butterfly weed (asclepias tuberosa) comes in orange and a bright yellow variety called "Hello Yellow." Another good one is swamp milkweed (asclepias incarnata) which comes in pink and white called "Ice Ballet." Both of these are Not aggressive.
You don't say what city you are in, but if it is Chicago, email me at kaymac60423@yahoo.com and I'll help you find some places to buy plants.

Just wanted to let her know I started raising them this year. We moved to St. Petersburg, FL a year ago. They are still laying eggs here.

Yes, Kay continues to be a Monarch mom, raising babies from the chrysalis until they are able to fly free on their own!

You'll like tropical milkweed. It is bright orange and there is a yellow one too. Just remember to cut it off once a year and start a new one. Good Luck!! Kay

Very nice Video but the quality is bad! Please do it again with a better camera. 😉

With the exception of a couple updated clips, the video was shot using a Sony DSR-PD170 pro cam. The compression to a DVD compromises the clarity.
