First Final Fantasy i ever owned. Maybe that's why I'm biased, but i love this game. Apparently that's not a popular opinion

It's true that the first impression we get from something is usually the strongest. My first part of the series was 7 and I love it more than the others. I've played most old games till 9. However the intro video was nothing less than epic, Tripple Triad was innovative and the draw system... interesting. Even though I spent entire battles just with the "draw" function whenever a new spell appeared in the game xD
The story was okay, but I couldn't get myself to like Rinoa, because she acted like a spoiled princess half of the time.

I'm 29 and still playing games lol. But never will I find a game better than this. The GF sumons are better than most of other entire games.
I got 100% in this game. Got all GFs, all cards, all of the highest weapons for all characters. Those were the days!

I died like literally 200 times to Omega weapon, getting Eden from him and trying to finish him off was extremely hard, almost broke my PS1 controller lol
those where the days when we didnt have to pay extra to finish a game or get extra content or items. When you just need to buy a game play and finished it, now its all about money. Talk about downloadable content and pay to win.
But did you get Moomba and chocobo GF?
FF8 graphics and animations really pushed the PS1` to the limit! AMAZING game! And the BEST summons of any FF :D

When Seifer kills Odin I jumped from my couch and yelled WHAT THE FUCK
even though I knew all of them, or so I thought...this is the first time I actually saw ChocoMeteor and Moogle Dance....never thought I'd actually see something new :,) brings back memories from the first one I ever completed with blood and sweat, gosh them good times xD
I'm not sure how many people are aware of this, but Carbuncle has a rare 'Emerald Light' ability also... it casts a different spell on your party and the ruby stone on the forehead becomes an emerald stone for the animation, I saw it a few times but I never knew what triggered it...
I also remember(more vaguely) Odin having a rare Animation where he has a lance attack, it didn't usually kill but it did serious damage to 1 enemy. again I never knew what triggered it.
Nomir Emus i did a little research, it turns out carbuncle emerald light ability came from final fantasy ix, and odin lance attack came from final fantasy vii.
Asri Ashary I distinctly remember casting Emeraald Light in fight leading to Edea at the parade. the odin Lance I might have been mistaken, but I remember rubbing my eyes like 'wth is he doing with a green stone, other wise the video was exactly as this one is, and the ix animation is noticeably different.
Nope that was FF9. He does diamond light, ruby light & emerald light.

I saw these animations A LOT when I was a kid. Didn't bother learning how to actually play the game so I just summon spammed XD

he can hit 9999 at lvl 100 with a chance of instant death, had he able to break demage cap he would be the most broken gf in the game with his 100% hp demage.

I played FF8 to death, hundreds of hours and NEVER seen the Moogle Dance summon / Limit break! nor any of the Chocobo summons at the end of video WTF?!!! Was that only in Japanese version?
the Pc version have better sound effects during Gfs appearances. I would LOVE they could make FF8 with the graphics of nowadays.

I always loved Brotherly Love, it makes me laugh. Also forgot how long some of the summons were. Loved how Excalipoor does the best damage ever, it wouldn't even kill a fly. The Moogle Dane, just love how they show the enemy after the summoning, pondering if it was meant to hurt.

Also, I don't remember ever using Tonberry when I played (I never finished it so possibly never got far enough to use him)....did it really said "Doink!" like that when he attacked?!

Really enjoyed this game! By the end you wish you could skip some of the GF animations but what a fantastic story!
Why cant they bring back some of these summons in future games Diablos in HD re done graphics would be awesome, this has to have the best Bahamut entrance ever and about 10mins of this video belonged to Eden lol

fuck this takes me back a good 15 years collected them all except that green dude. i missed it. will always love doom train the most. pretty sure i had all the cards too was a huge fan of them. you could boost these by pressing select than spamming square if i can remember right. but after a while you stop using them once you equip that other stuff to attack and 1 hit anything
had so much fun playing this, just listening the sounds makes me happy

1 is Quetzalcoat, 2 is Shiva (diamond dust).
Eden`s summon is waaaaay to long
That's because of the boost feature or something (the one where you hold select and spam the square button to increase damage), I think the developer's of the game purposely made it extra extra long so that the boost number will definitely be at the max of 255. The other GF's could only go up to 170 or so if you were fast enough, so reaching the max allowed Eden to do preposterous amounts of damage - and he's the only entity in the game that could exceed the damage cap of 9999.

+XellDincht yeah I suppose you're right. It can get extremely tedious once that gauge is on 255 and you still got 60 minutes of that cinematic remaining.
Cactuar could also go over 99999 HP since his attack is level based, when you level him up till 100th level he'll do 100 (level) x 10 dmg which is 10000 damage.
Bahamut also goes over 9999 limit cap in FF8.
It's so funny doing Hell fire, and Eden and that to bite bugs lol. I remember doing that.
Back when character attacks were incredibly mundane compared to Summons, making them that much more special when used...Good times...

I thought the moogle is the dude from secret of mana, the ice parts or hmm,will have to look into that, thought moogle was secret of mana, chocobo is all ff( in every game I think) don't quote me though, just don't recall moogle in any ff game. Nice to see Ernest hemingway the waytraveller rabbit in final fantasy IV afteryears though make a few hidden discoveries.
I guess it was only available on a pocket version of the game.

+Psycho Mikey Gilgamesh requires you to get Odin before fighting Seifer in disc 3; Odin will try to attack Seifer, but gets killed, and then Gilgamesh takes his place. Phoenix requires a Phoenix Pinion to be used in battle. The last 3 are summoned using items that are only obtainable through Chocobo World, the PocketStation minigame. The PocketStation was never released in the US as far as I know, so I think a gameshark or something similar is the only way to get them.
I remember getting a Pocketstation just for this game (I can't remember where I saw the import advertised. Might have been a magazine at the time). Honestly, the only reason to play Chocobo World was for these summons. The game itself was not fun at all.
With the exception of Ridge Racer Type 4, this was the only game I could find that used the Pocketstation for anything. Money well spent.

I've always thought of it as a 'thing' that transcended all notion of space, time, and the universe, appearing before you majestically before hurling the enemy's ass into the epicentre of a star/galaxy so fast that it goes 'supermassive', exceeding the mass of a collapsing star that it tears the fabric of space around it, i.e. black hole, ultimately disintegrating the enemy within. Yeah, powerful stuff.
Add in the fact that it has Break Damage Limit. Seeing most often the highest damage that you can do is 9999 yet it has five digits for damage.
I had never seen some of those at the end.
+battletoads22 Because you had to obtain rare items and then use up those rare items during battles, which basicly noone would do with a logic sense of mind. Unless you had a gamesave before going into battle and just use the item to see what it did. And then ofcourse go back to the restore point so you still had the item for the more 'usefull' purpose during the game such as refining it.

Some required a Pocketstation which were Japan-Only for the likes of MiniMog, Moomba and a bunch of the different Boko summon effects.
Somehow I find it saddening so to see this on YT by the way. Back in the days when I played this game for the first time, I put in hours and hours of effort just to see all this stuff in the game itself ... and now these days here on YT it's viewable without any effort. ESPECIALLY when it's something new I didn't see before in the game back then. It totally takes the magic of the game away.
Ofcourse happy to have seen something new, because I knew damn well what I could've excpected by clicking on the video which was my own choice, but at the same time I wish I wouldn't have done so. So that I would've come across it during the next time I would play this game after 2 decades or so.
7 and 8, skip 9 then X is really cool ill add 12 also since that one allows big dummy damage

I swear Eden uses as much power not destroying the planet when it attacks as it does destroying your enemies. (pardon me while i turn earth into a QUASAR, this'll just take a moment)
the chocobo ones are fine, but the other slapstick summons are not fitting well imo
