Till death due us apart
🇦🇺
My son wanted this song played at his memorial. My son, died at age 34 from a overdose 5 years ago. This song was played.
Connie Evans well Connie, your son must have been a beautiful soul; this song got me thru rehab in 2012 from opiate addiction after losing my ex to the battle. Josh died for me to live, and this was my go to song for me
eliot was/is a beautiful soul. i'm sorry about your loss. eliot was a huge shannon hoon fan. 3 blind melon songs were played on his memorial cd. but change was the one that had the most meaning. thank you for your kind comment and i hope you are doing well.
Connie Evans RIP to your son
God be with you n I know he's looking down on you.. I'm so sorry 💔
God bless your son Connie, this song is for him, i'm crying, thank you, i need it.
This song saved my life both times I put the drugs down. Sober (for the second time) since July 27, 2018. Thank you Shannon.
Music is a lifeline! Grab it. Hold onto it and stay sober! You are loved, you are strong and you have the power! Keep jamming on good music 🎶 ❤
Awesome
One day at a time brother...

FIND WHAT YOU LOVE AND LET IT KILL YOU
keep the good work up my brotha
Today I had to pull my father off of life support. Before that I sat with him and listened to all of blind melons songs, and this was his favorite so I played it last and have not stopped playing it all day. I’m heart broken but Shannon’s amazing musical ability Has been the only thing to help me through this tough time in my life. R.I.P. ❤️
I am sincerely sorry for your loss. All day every day...this is the song!
♥
My heartfelt sympathies. I've already been in your shoes, and although they fit, I wish that they didn't. May music, the memories, a little faith, and the love y'all shared see you through. If you like, I'll lie straight to your face, and tell you that "it gets better". I'm not sure that it does. It just gets different. Much peace and love to all y'all.
I'm here for you
So sorry to hear about your voice. Good music & prayer helps. Sending love & prayer your way. Good times are coming again. Until they do just keep pressing on as best as you can & remember its ok to have bad days as long as you " keep on livin' " God Bless
If you’re here because you really need this song right now, you’re not alone and you are loved.
I needed that so much today Garrett. I don't know you but thank you .
@@FargoMarc you're welcome. Keep on keepin' on, brother.

Thank you Gareth, today is that day for me.
This song helped me get through rehab. I have 6 years clean.

congratulations! that is amazing

congrats dear! xx
AMAZING!!
It makes me so HAPPY hearing about those few who make it!
I so often feel like there's no hope. But then I hear about people like you and I start to hope again.
In just one week one guy and one girl is lost to drugs in the tiny town I live in.
She had 3 kids, small, 6 years and younger.
It's so heartbreaking and devastating. I almost can't bare to think of those small children. And my mind can't let go of the thought about their future. Are they going to go the same path?
It totally breaks me :'(
This album is criminally underrated. One of the best 90's albums imo
Easily
Brilliant record! Shannon was a wonderful guy, and a good friend. I always say that Kurt wasn't the biggest loss that rock music suffered in the 90s. Shannon, Jeff Buckley, and Bradley Nowell just hadn't had the same sort of ridiculous success right out of the gate, but the talent was just overflowing with these guys. I miss them. Music misses them
hell yeah, man. Plus, the Bruins suck.
I couldn't agree anymore man these guys are fn criminally underrated Fuckin' Rights they are one of my favourite bands ever rest in Peace sir
@@drummonster6228
Very well said drum monster God I miss Brad Nowell and Sublime ! and Shannon Hoon is probably one of the greatest singers ever in my opinion they fucking kill it !
Shannon Hoon doesn't get enough credit, most unique vocals in music
Blind Melon is the most underrated band OF ALL TIME. I'm not usually one to make such an absolute statement but it absolutely applies here.
Man Janis is not easy to pull off and in many ways he does Janis Better
Wait born 67 died 95, he was another 27 club member? That's a lot of very good singers including winehouse, buddy Holly and about 20 others like the singer of sweet home Alabama song guy.
@@breakingames7772 Jim Morrison Janice Joplin
@@breakingames7772 That's because they don't learn their mistakes from those who came and went before. I've no clue why musicians continue to fuck themselves up on drugs.
who agrees that if blind melon was still around they would be in the rock and roll hall of fame
I have to disagree. Not because I don't think they would deserve it, but because despite all of the fantastic music they made, most people couldn't get past 'No Rain'. Shame, really. Huge talent, the whole band.
they deserve to be but sadly they didn't really get the recognition they deserve.. :/
+wwaldo2525 I don't think hr means anything wrong with No Rain it's just one of the only songs that most people know by Blind Melon
I didn't truly understand their genius and soul until just recently...my ignorance. They are the most underrated band in history and would be legendary had Shannon lived.
harambe lives me but the music is not rock it's grunge
When my mother was on her deathbed I played this for her. This was the last song she ever heard. She smiled...
Condolences on the passing of your mom :(
It was really sweet of you to play such a beautiful and meaningful song for her. What a precious moment you created there

Waooo is cool
Plastic Tree your comment gave me goosebumps c:
Plastic Tree Your story is so close to mine. I listened to this every day at the hospice as my grandmother (who raised me for many years and was closer to me than my Mum) succumbed to a brain tumor. I think I understand a little bit of how powerful this song is to you, and the kind of emotion it can offer - both grief and comfort. I'm sorry for your loss.
RIP Shannon RIP Bradley Nowell RIP Layne Stanley RIP to everyone who lost their battle with that bastard heroin or drug addiction in general.
Scott Weiland 😢
yeah the h is the devil
+Kyle Donaldson Shannon od'd on cocaine....
Alex M Perhaps I should have done some fact checking before I posted it. I always thought he was a junkie and this song was about being addicted. Maybe I read my own things into the lyrics. .Sorry It's been years.
livisdaddy2008 Anddddd there's the spell check. Good job being "that guy".
My comment was already a self-admitted failure. Anything else?
Can never get enough of Blind Melon next to Soundgarden.
*R.I.P Shannon Hoon*

Eddie Vedder is like, the only one to make it out alive.
And Jim Morrison
Why were they all taken away from us?
I always will remember this song cause I posted that my sister dedicated it to me. Ima drug addict and gots a lot of mental health issues and I'm trying to figure my life together and recover and not fuck up anymore then I have. If your reading this, than please post and message me. I need the hope and help.
Shannon would be proud of all the love shown in the comment section here. It brought a smile to my face and tears to go with it.
This is such a bittersweet song, it has me grinning like a fool and bawling like an idiot. One of life's greatest humans and one of life's most tragic stories. A beautiful soul who was taken WAAAAY WAAAAY too soon from those close family who loved him, and the extended millions of family who loved his music and his soul.
RIP Shannon, we wish you were still with us.

Ditto.
Angela Howard At age 45 I have seen many of my favorite musician's pass away. Somehow I did manage to survive the 1990's. Sucks to see such talent gone.

Straight up!
When life is hard, escape it by using hardcore drugs
Reading these comments... man. It's beautiful how many lives a song can touch in such a positive way.
I don't feel the sun's comin' out today
It's stayin' in, it's gonna find another way, yeah
As I sit here in this misery
I don't think I'll ever know, Lord
See the sun from here
And oh, as I fade away
They'll all look at me and say
And they'll say, "Hey, look at him"
"I'll never live that way"
And that's ok, they're just afraid to change
When you feel life ain't worth living
You've got to stand up
Take a look around, look up way to the sky, hell yeah
And when your deepest thoughts are broken
Keep on dreamin' boy, 'cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die
And as we all play parts of tomorrow, Lord no
Some ways we'll work, and other ways we'll play, yeah
But I know we can't all stay here forever
So I'm gonna write my words on the face of today
And then they'll paint it
And oh, as I fade away
They'll all look at me and say
They'll say, "Hey look at him"
"And where he is these days?"
When life is hard, you have to change
When life is hard, you have to change, mmm
RIP

27 years running since the loss of Shannon Hoon and his voice is still 90's music epitomized.
29 years ago he dropped this gem
Man. So much time has passed. Still missing Shannon.
I miss him so much such a huge loss
Definitely one of the defining voices of an era along with Cornell and Lane and Kurt
His voice is legendary!
I remember when Shannon died, it was the very early days of the internet, before any social media. Fans were leaving tributes and memorials on website comment sections and chat rooms, and my friend in high school printed out pages of it for some reason -- in the school library, since none of us had printers or internet connections at home yet. I still have those pages in a binder with all of the notes we passed and other high school memories.
You should think about reposting those.
I live not far from his resting place in Dayton, Indiana. I live in the his hometown Lafayette.
I've been to his grave site in Dayton, Indiana. There's a great big black stone laid over his grave and people still leave teddy bears on it.
What a loss such a great talent... you left way too may God bless you and your family 🙏
I saw them in September 1995 in Offenbach Germany
Blind Melon has a wonderful 60s flair to their image and music. I can't help comparing Shannon's voice to Janis Joplin.
Damn your kind of right about the Joplin thing I always thought he was like a softer version of Axel Rose from GnR
Yeah! I hear it too. ❤️
My exact thought, a male version of Janis
I always just thought it was me that thought he sounded like Janis. What a voice!
A cross between Robert Plant and Janis Joplin. ✌🏾
I have been an addict since I was 12, when shannon died, I shot a bag of dope for him, when Kurt died, I shot a bag of dope for him. Now seeing how sick I was, being clean, almost overdosing, the ambulance found me wirh a needle in my arm and a crackstem in my pocket, I guess that bag was meant for me. But I'm clean now, God graced me another one of a thousand chances, and now I have these 2 babies to care for. We miss you Shannon. I live a little bit of every day, for you and all of us who have fallen to this insidious disease.
I fucking loved this comment.. I love both Shannon and Kurt. I also live little for them everyday but about andrew wood and layne staley ? Did you forget them ?? Whatsoever, but i'm so glad to know about your existence..
Steven Geere no I did not forget them, but I would be naming names forever, but for some reason, I was in my teens when they passed, and I was SEVERELY IN THE GRIPS of my addiction when they passed. When I got older, I learned better coping skills, THANK GOD. I always thought it was luck in my teens, but now I know it was grace that let me keep going. Thank you for your comment, it made me smile!!
Steven Geere thought the same, tho different people relate to different artists. Music is an intensely intimate thing.
SMITTENKITTEN glittergirl ur ded
Lee S no he graced me with free will, sadly, I made the wrong choice.
May this song never be forgotten.
I'm going to write my words on the face of the day before they paint it

I heard Shannon's mom say she knew he was going to be famous when she heard him playing this song out on the porch one day.
Love you, Nel. Suckerpunch.
I love Nirvana, but Blind Melon's music spoke to me on a far more personal level....
+lot24 very personal
Shannon's voice was amazing. I didn't give two shits about Cobain. Shannon was beautiful, when he wasn't fucked up.
I ran into S. Hoon at a ian moore show in Dallas back in 93 or 94. He was in the audience, the guy standing next to me said hey look Blind Melon's singer. Sure enough. He was pretty trashed, haha.
+Tammy Sigmon Shannon did though. He was very upset when he heard Kurt was dead. I think they both were great.
+lot24 I think their music showed more talent than nirvana, personally. Hoon's songwriting was just amazing
My husband didn't like no rain, but on a long trip to Florida I played the entire CD and he was blown away. I love these guys and miss them.
The first time I heard No Rain, I hated it! When I saw the video, it caught my attention... one day I was going home after school, I was 13 and saw the CD with the bee girl on the cover. When I finally bought it, I fell in love with Blind Melon and I can say this is my favorite band until nowadays! ♥ I love almost this entire album!
I didn't like No Rain, but my boyfriend at the time got me to listen to there other music, they are one of my favorites, Change is my favorite song, and I hate he died so young..
Guitar solo sucks
No rain is not a good song. Tones of home is way better
absolutely the most amazing singer since Robert Plant. this is not hyperbole. Shannon Hoon was one of the best. RIP brother. Your words touched gen X.

Nearly 10 million views and I can still safely say that Blind Melon is the most-under rated and under-appreciated rock band of all time.
They are my favorite of all time. Now my son plays their music 🎼❤️

This song saved my life 7 years ago when I was done with everything. I had never heard it but seen it in my suggestions. I don't remember the song I was listening too but i left it to listen to this and it has been my theme song and go to song ever since. My therapist now uses it with other PTSD patients she has. @@brucebrandy9433 hey I like them , saw them in Tuscaloosa , with the Melvin's, & Meat Puppets, met them after the show ( I had gotten too hot and I could smell other people in my personal space so I went and laid out on the lawn by the sidewalk to stop the dizzy ) my friends were friends with the guys from Blind Melon( same hometown , not Indiana , some of them would come over and play around in the band room when they were in town visiting) .. that being said .. I think the only reason people wouldn't like this song is that it's not song but the dusted /painted gold... it's seems that those who do ... seem to after that they're not here anymore. That's my theory anyway ( Cranberries, Zombie... well when Bad Wolves, did their version .. Mother Pearl Janis Joplin was done in gold too I'm sure .. ) 🤨🤔..

@Millennial Smark no Kurt was a good musician, but his voice definitely wasn’t on the same level as those guys
@Millennial Smark he is literally just talking about voice alone? Kurt just doesn’t belong there. Your story just sounds like a dumb assumption based on little experience with those people

+raisedfist80 well i am sorry to tell you you but you said is not true either.
you say "we humans" "all" are self-deestructive, that is an incorrect statement. not all humans or we humans but we living in a certain type of society, system whatever you want to call it. humans are not self destructive or fight with themselves by nature, it is an aberration through the interaction with inhumane and unnatural circumstances, rules, modes of living, upbringing etc. which cause such behaviour and mentality.
For someone who you can see as plain as day cared about people and who lost himself to drugs, I'd have to imagine he'd be incredibly happy to see the comments here and how many people this song helped out of that pit.

@@duncan3998 the album was released in 1992, its now 2022....
@@jessiejamesferruolo I was referring to the video...
@@duncan3998 Hmm. Well I said "this song" so.... yea.... Nice to meet you?
@@jessiejamesferruolo I literally said ''the video'' that was released in 1993 of this song. but nevermind.
I ain't afraid of change... Especially when I don't even have to ask for it....
You got 2.50?
When life is hard you have to change
This is on the most amazing songs ever written... It's up there with Let It Be and Comfortably Numb...
These guys were fantastic and burned brightly for a narrow window of time - but staggered by the perennial tradition of rock bands and substance abuse - and then Shannon dying killed them, commercially. I mean, what is the deal with young men in bands - do they really have to do the "27, Jim Morrison thing" to find inspiration and satisfaction as an artist? Shannon NEVER should have died, such an immense tragedy. And do you realize that if had lived, in a month, he'd be 55 years old - which blows my mind and breaks my heart at the same time!
Hi I Recommend A Song Called 'looking into the mirror' by Robert Nix
Just came here to cry
❤
Just found these guys today, incredible
Man you missed a great time to be alive! Check out Temple of the dog, seven mary 3 and masters of reality.
Rick Fountain thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out for sure
Search masters of reality, masters of reality. Their best album was self titled.
omg - that is crazy but cool. I was in my mid 20's when these guys were around. I can remember where I was when I heard the news that Shannon Hoon died ( I was making out with a girl in my car). that kinda killed the mood.
RedroomStudios man what a way to find out though. I was just a kid, being born in 89. But it affected me because I loved Blind Melon. For Halloween I wanted to be the bumble bee girl lol
I sit and listen and break down every time. This song gets my tears flowing
Same💜
I was in my late teens when they became famous, but like an idiot I had a chance to see them and I told myself I would see them next time. Little did I know, there would be no next time. So sad, it's bothered me ever since. RIP Shannon. RIP Blind Melon. At least we have your albums.
sniggity they're still together. They found a new singer. but he will never replace Shannon
dlafaive1989 He isn't bad though I enjoyed the last album.
Same thing just happened to me when I had a chance to see Chris Cornell with Soundgarden
sniggity it happened to me with Chris Cornell. :˙(
I saw them play before he died. Great show.
Today is going to be the first Christmas without my dad. He had passed away 9 months due to many health complications before I had to wake up to him gone in his bed. He introduced me to this song while going to my 3rd grade football practices, he called it my “warmup song”. We listened to “change” and “no rain” predominately. That man was my leader, my role model, the man that taught me what a real man is. As I get older I come to understand the hardships he had gone through throughout his life and it really drives me to be who I am. No matter how down I may get, or how heavy my life may feel, it all leads me back to where I am now, listening to Change..
Still years and years go by and I have never heard another band like them. I have been a Melon fan since day 1 and even kept track of the new projects. I still feel this band has no equal I miss their music.
I had this album when it came out. 25 yrs later I understand it more. As a teen I could tell the songs were good but it took time and growth to understand how good they truly were.
So true , I spent time listening to songs I grew up on , what a difference time makes .change and awareness is there in the songs , truth , we have to just listen and be awake
I love this band to extremes! Soup basically defined my childhood, my brother was the one to introduce me to this band (back in 1991 or 1992?) and I am so very grateful he did! I seriously wish Shannon hadn't been taken so young, but the good ones always do! It sucks because you just don't hear good music like this anymore...this song reminds me to always keep my mind open and positive.
Did we just become best friends…? Do you wanna go do karate in the garage?!?
When I was locked up in prison it was one of my only CDs I had in my pen pack and I'm glad it was this one #masterpiece
My one month old daughter, Meloni Dawn, LOVES this song...it chills her out...🍉😇
I absolutely hate that they are labeled as the "BEE GIRL" band. I think they were the greatest band ever. "Soup" and "Nico" are genius. The first album is great as well. Love this band!!!
Mad Minute agree that's probably my least favorite song
Soup!!!! Especially the performance at Woodstock 94! So great.
I know what you mean Mouthful of cavities, sleepy house, & tones of home break my heart for the depths of sadness & feelings of worthlessness many people suffer with is overwhelming. Blind Melon made it so easy to see what it's really like for these poor souls. It taught me compassion, love, & understanding on a new level.
The mix of the song used in the video seems different from the album version, if I'm not mistaken; I really like this version, to me, it comes across as more raw and genuine (if that's possible). Speaking frankly, though, both versions are incredible, and the album this was on is absolutely stunning as well.
RIP Shannon Hoon
I though I was the only one noticed it
I would agree this is more raw but I prefer the album version... possibly only because of the fact I have heard it a few thousand times and that is what I am used to.
I love this version of the song also, does anyone know where to find it?
He said "Before they paint it" I believe his grave says " and then I'll paint it"
I've always loved this song. I'm now 48 and still feel like this is my life song.
...this song kept me from pulling the trigger on myself in 2000. Thank you shannon❤
This band has literally saved my life like 7 mf times, for real
In an interview with Details magazine for their July 1996 issue, Blind Melon manager Chris Jones explained that Shannon Hoon would sit on his mother's porch, singing this song over, and the family considers it a song of wonderful innocence; a song of hope. Said Jones: "He wrote it at the very end of a three-day coke binge in Indiana. During the first part I don't feel the sun's gonna come out today he was on the other side of the room, trying to see through the venetian blinds which were drawn so no light was coming in, and he was at a point where he couldn't even get up."
If there's a such thing as magic in my life it's that music finds me when it's supposed to, and I found this song today because of a short video made by a youth center. I didn't discover it 30 years ago before Shannon died. No, I discovered it today, and today is the day I was meant to hear it. And what can I say except that I'm so incredibly grateful for the gift of this music in my life.
This actually may be my favorite song by any artist.
Where is the other version that was a little different in the chorus. Anyone know? It's more raw.
probably just the acoustic version or demo.
Shannon Hoon was an absolutely phenomenal artist and musician. You can choose a different video of the same song and it'll be slightly different every time. "And right now I don't wanna die." Is not sang on the album version. As an addict and even a human being that phrase "RIGHT NOW I don't wanna die." Do you think f e performed this song the day he overdosed he would have sang that line?
I was just noticing this version has a few differences from the album version I am used to. was searching the comments to see who else noticed...
FoolyLiving the acoustic version it's on youtube just add acustic
On the original album
420 dislikes lol...when life is hard, ya have to change...

Anyone coming here in 2024....Thank You for celebrating Shannon or....Finding Shannon
This is just one of those songs
I just noticed this after years, but at 2:44 Shannon is playing his guitar backwards!
My all time favorite song with my favorite lyric of all time, "I know we can't all stay here forever so I want to write my words of the face of today, and then they'll paint it"
This lyric is one of my favorites since I was a kid "Keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin 'it's time to die". I live with her daily but dreams don't come true for people like me.
All the days of my life and I still dream of being a pink piggy bank being held in some mans arms and stoked in a blind melon music video
I just love 90s grunge music... even though I was a baby in the late 90s, its in my heart!
+Kestela This is more like Neo-Psychedelic rock. Still great though.
+notmyuseristolethis soul music mate, only way I can categorise it. Music for your soul.
+Kestela Me too. It somehow connects more with me than other music. It also sounds raw and handmade, wich is the best music can sound to me.
+Kestela this isnt grunge its blue grass
mind to know about my favourite grunge band called Butterfingers?they are from Malaysia, listen to Girl Friday and more, thank you :)
An absolute 90's masterpiece. I still listen to this song just about every day. My favorite alternative song of all time.
"I know we can't all stay here forever So I want to write my words on the face of today and they'll paint it"

This song never fails to move me in such a big way. Never thought you could put this feeling to words but Hoon did just that!!!!
I seriously lost a piece of my soul when he passed away. I have never heard another singer that spoke for me before. Rest in peace, brother.
