I had no idea Himalayan salt was this popular. One time I bought it, because they were out of regular salt, and I pretty much been using it ever since. I find it not as "harsh" and "easier on the palette", like the guy in the video said. It just "tastes" better to me, that's the only reason I switched. And I buy salt like maybe 2-3 times a year, so it's not a huge expense for me.

As an Indian, I've been eating pink salt for as far as I can remember, it is really popular in India and used very frequently. It sure has a different taste, and it is often used in traditional digestive medicines. It is also said that it has less drastic effect on your blood pressure than regular salt, so it is recommended to people with high BP problems as a replacement. It tastes a bit different than your regular salt for sure. it has more "pleasant" and flavored taste than regular salt, which is just.... salty.
However, only the west is obsessed with it's so called "healing" power. Nobody used these salts as lamp or for massage or bath products for last thousands of years in these regions (Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan and India where these are found). It's not even that expensive here, to be honest. West is just being west, I guess..

i have cooked with pink himalayan salt for years, because it's what my mom used. i never really took into account how pretty it is, i just did what my mom did!
I like the grinders it comes in at the stores, vs the way table salt is usually packaged/marketed. i also like that it's less salty than the traditional table salt, which allows me to control the saltiness of my food and the distribution of that salt a bit better.
Samin Nosrat said in one part of her book, that it doesn't really matter what salt you use, as long as you know YOUR salt well. I use flake salt when seasoning steaks, because it has a larger surface area, and cheap iodized salt for pasta water, but otherwise... pink salt!

What makes it pink is the presence of iron oxide so pretty much you are eating rusty salt 🤣 Some claim it's somewhat milder over table salt and since it has small amounts of minerals its slightly lower in sodium compared to regular table salt. I just like the color and think pink salt is prettier in my cupboard haha. I do not buy expensive products that claim different benefits, I also do not buy expensive Himalayan salts and only get them at cheaper prices. On my shelf I have several different salts though, table, kosher, pink etc. If you really want to see neat salts though do a search on exotic world salts. You can find some pretty neat ones like green bamboo salt, volcanic salt etc. I wanted to get a world salt spice set but ridiculously expensive.

You don't like it or feel it ..... Don't say others don't . Most people who have used it for years obviously know and understand the difference !!!!
Have been using this from when i can remember, tried the other common/ regular salt but quickly returned to this for the obvious difference in taste !!

A Doctor's take on this video:
Trace elements = meant to be consumed in extremely small amounts. So when the blonde woman says there are very small amounts, she fails to mention that thats how trace elements/minerals are meant to be consumed otherwise they would be toxic to your body (hence the name 'trace'). There have not been any long term studies done on the effects of pink himalayan salt so any conclusions made in this video are pure opinion.
A real scientist or 'expert' would have said... "There is no current evidence that pink himalayan salt has a positive effect on the body, yet the need for trace elements is substantiated in the current climate of the global food industry (food deserts, abundance of processing, etc.) which is why this product is trending. Further long term studies will need to be done in order for us to have a definitive answer on whether they have a positive, negative or no effect at all in the future."
The people making this video obviously have negative bias towards this product, its seems they are trying to convince you its BS and just an IG trend when they have no evidence that it does or doesn't help.

This sort of nutritionist is responsible for massive health problems in the west, we need salt to live and the food industry put salt in just about everything like sugar and now theyr'e saying we need less salt, guess what, now theyr'e saying less sugar and the cheap food taste bad without it.

I think that giving people the impression that eating salt is beneficial in moderation.maybe certain people will use it in excess thinking it's heathy but causing long term problems .
