      Most of East Asia has successfully used combination of lockdowns, mass testing, mask wearing, contact tracing, technology, and other methods to get COVID under control. Simply put, all these governments, and their people actually take it extremely seriously. As a result, these countries are able to hold events like this relatively safely even without the advanced vaccine technology that the US has.
      As of today, Japan, which is doing the worst out of the East Asian countries, has "only" 8,807 new cases a day. That's been enough for them to essentially declare a state of emergency for the whole country for months (US at 17,816, UK at 29,173), and almost not hold the Olympics. Countries like Singapore fine you and send you to jail for not wearing a mask: www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/singapore-jails-briton-not-wearing-face-mask-public-2021-08-18 .
      As for China, they're the most aggressive out of all these countries in combatting it. Basically, if one person gets it somewhere, they hard lockdown the entire region and do mass testing of the region immediately. As a result they're at 46 new cases a day. Even with that small number you can see that al the officials take the precaution of wearing masks and there's nearly no audience even though these games are treated like the Olympics in China.

      why not indoors? and why is the gymnasium silly? and why is it "unexeptable" (sic)?. There is absolutely no requirement for Tai Chi to be outside.
      And the point is, there are five major styles of Tai Chi, each style has a collection of forms (like Kata in Karate) and the contestants are judged on how well they perform it.
      They are marked on: doing the correct sequence of moves, correct performance of the move, balance, flow, power, speed, level of difficulty, smooth transitions, interpretation etc. etc. The judges know what form they are doing and know what moves to expect.
      No different from a dance judge, marking a waltz or a tango or a cha-cha. (Bruce Lee was a Hong Kong Cha cha cha champion!) or Karate judges, judging Kata.

    This is great and the woman is respected in her clothing unlike the olympic gymnastics games where women practically have to show their intimate parts nevertheless the abuse that we know of today with so many young females during their training time! When is THAT going to change? Why do olympic male sportmen not have to almost show their private parts but women have to? Why is not any of these olympic females gymnasts like Simone Biles, reacting and protesting against these sport clothing practices that use women as sex objects while in fact it should go about the sport practice?

      Without knowledge of the applications, you are correct. It's a bit like knowing "how" to make moves in Kata, but not why. Tai Chi used to be the "icing on the cake" for some martial artists. They would know another fighting style and learn Tai Chi principles afterwards.

    • @bluehippofilms
      @bluehippofilms  3 роки тому +7

      If you look at the scores at the end you'll notice that there's an A, B, and C score.
      A score is for technique, and you can get deducted for doing certain moves incorrectly, very similar to technical performance in the sports you mentioned. Things like upper body positions being incorrect, poorly executed techniques, and swaying during balance movements, etc
      B score is for overall performance, and takes into account all the subjective and technical factors you're probably thinking of. Often called artistic/overall execution in many other sports
      C score is known as nandu, or difficulty moves. Basically the degree of difficulty moves you were thinking of. Most wushu difficulties involve doing jump kicks with a certain amount of rotation (more the better). Typically the landings have transition values as well, such as splits, or landing on one leg. Taiji is also famous for difficulties involving single leg balance techniques (you see her do a few).
      Unlike in gymnastics or ice skating, difficulty is capped at 2.0, so most professional competitors can and will max this out. That means if you miss a move you are almost 100% not medaling. This means in terms of difficulty, it becomes more about having perfect technique and execution of the difficulty moves, instead of increasing the number of difficulty moves to score higher. Since this is at the amateur collegiate level, she’s able to take gold even with a miss in her difficulty, but it wouldn’t happen at a higher level competition.

    I don't know if I get the 'full' hit from a world class Taiji performance, but it's really cool. And yet, with this high level skill in Taiji form and contortionist flexibility, you kinda want to see what her body looks like from all this stretching and training, since probably from the age of like 4 or 5. You know? I mean. I like the traditional Chinese stuff. But. People in the west want to know if that type of skill creates an 'eye candy' kinda body. Just watched a clip with Owl Kitty as Princess Leia, a few minutes ago. Before that it was the hot, mature, older Aussie chick on Phoenix Nation. Serious skill at entertaining on youtube. So. If you want to learn about 'entertainING' in the modern age, outside of China, as the Chinese Taiji 'public relations' people, gotta show some of these chicks with 'less on.'
