  • Hey Everyone I wanted to style Syd's 4C hair in a silk press. I also wanted to do a natural hair length check and a trim. Usually that would be a easy hairstyle but being that she is only 4 and HATES getting her hair done period point blank!! It wasn't easy. Syd has a TWA naturally and I LOVE it so I won't be doing blow out tutorials on her hair for a very long time. So I finished her hair with an adorable kid style which was two corn rows!! Thanks for watching, please Subscribe to my channel and Sydney's channel also.

I want everyone to know this was my first time applying this type of heat to my daughter’s hair. Normally she wears two strand twist or protective styles. My daughter has 4c hair and she is tender headed. No I’m not burning her, no I’m not being rough, no I’m not damaging her hair. If you go on my channel you will see how much I’ve grown her hair in the past year. I know how to handle my daughter and her natural hair. Thx for watching!!!😘😘😘😘😘😘

The joys of being a little black girl. I DREADED wash and press days. Hair was long and extremely thick (thanks Blue Magic). This little girl has it easy. We endured the pressing comb with that yellow grease in a hot kitchen with no TV and a heavy handed auntie. Oh, the torture!! But when it was over my back bangs, side pony tail, and front bangs were on point. Damn I miss the 80's

Dixie Peach on a hot comb in the 1950's would catch fire on the stove. That was a warning to put the comb in a special pot holder!!!

There was no such thing as a detangler cream back in the day. My mother would towel dry my hair, while I sat between her legs, AND THEN, just take the comb and go through it!! Oh, the combs my hair broke!! Sometimes she would just give up and send me around the corner to the beauty parlor. Then she got a rubber comb! 😂
No, I wasn't scarred for life and my beautiful healthy hair is still here after ALL those straightens AND ALL those many years!

Hold the base of her hair when you comb or its just pulling her scalp causing her pain and it can cause breakage. Same reason why the paddle brush is a no for her. Try the comb attachment and hold her hair, start at the ends and work your way up the hair

She has thick long beautiful hair! I understand the struggle Girl! Girl you should get on the 2 strand twist train! My daughter just turned 5 and she screams and cries when I would do her hair! I felt bad. For the past 6 months I have been doing 2 strand twists in her hair. I redo them every 1-1 1/2 cause I don't want them to loc. I think it is a good substitute instead of locs because it's not permanent. I braid down about 4 times and 2 strand twist the rest of the way and she actually sits for it while watching tv. Have u a spray bottle ready and it helps part. I am currently redoing hers now for the weekend I may put up a video today or tomorrow it has been 6 months. Her edges have grown back! All I do is daily spray her hair with water (if it's not cold outside), moisturize, and add an oil, put on a head band and go! Sorry for the long post but I had to share! Lol

OMG! Thank you , thank you, thank you!!!!!! It's the first time that I see someone who has my daughter's hair. I go through this same process but when I see others who seem to have it so easy, I get convinced I'm doing it wrong. (i'm a silky-haired mom!) . It was really helpful to see that other children go through what my daughter goes through. She's now 12, and it's still a nightmare. Like your daughter, she prefers to keep it fro and free. Of course! but then, it's a HUGE job to wash and detangle. I would love to see how you wash and condition her hair. It's a 2-day weekend job for us. And that's not counting the protective style afterwards! Thank you so much for your video. A gift.

A much easier way to blow dry her hair is the tension method. You should really look it up. It will save her unnecessary pain, and you time and energy. Also, when detangling, grab her hair in a smaller section firmly at the very root, like right on the scalp, with one hand and then detangle with a detangling brush from the ends up. That takes the tension and pain off of her scalp completely. No shade. I mastered detangling with my niece's hair.

My daughter is 9 years old with the exact 4C hair shrinkage, tender headedness and all. It took me years to find the right natural products for her hair. I did find good products along with some essential oils & Shea butter. Tried blow drying & flat ironing twice & it changed her hair pattern then broke her hair off. So stopped that & continued to find good methods for detangling & moisturizing. Then she acquired Alopecia. SMH. So now I worry about growing her bald spots back with vitamins, essential oils & protective styles. All this to say as a mom you do the best you can with what you’re blessed with & you did a great job w/ your daughters feelings in mind. Applause to you.

I know its a bit late but I noticed she has tender scalp so the best solution which I use on my niece is to comb out the hair when you put in the conditioner, put it into four sections with your fingers not a comb before combing out, comb out and then raise each section accordingly and put back into a coil as you raise out the product it will reduce the knots when combing out. Add some moisturizer or any light product and then dry each section separately while stretching with a soft brush not a paddle bush as this pulls on her roots causing pain. Also use a wide tooth comb to comb through her hair others cause pain and damage to her hair. Hope if she is still natural that this helps. Once a week it keeps the hair from getting really knotted and difficult to comb.

Your daughter is the cutest little thing. Then end result was beautiful. But I felt her pain. As a little child, I remember those tortuous days getting my 4C hair done. My younger sisters had "good hair" as the old folks would say. But mine was "nappy" hair and I had to sit and bear getting my hair straighten with a hot comb every 2 weeks. it. "She's tender headed," people would say when I would cry when my mother, my aunts or a beautician would do my hair.I am glad there are many styles for our natural hair now. I am 67 years old, but I remember those days quite well. I wear my hair natural and if I want to change my "look" I will wear a wig.

Hi I have a serious question. How did you figure out your daughter has 4c hair? The reason I ask is because my daughter is natural and is almost 2 years old and I'm trying to figure out her hair type. If you could respond back I would greatly appreciate it. Great video by the way very informative

My daughter is nine. I blew out her 4c hair for the first time.....it came almost to her butt.....but began shrinking back almost immediately. The amoint of shrinkage is amazing. I don't want to use a flat iron, but she really wants it straight. I am terrified to mess up her hair though. She's been wearing 2 strand twists for about 5 years and has been complaining about the same style
She's super tender headed and cries and screams so twists are what she'll have to stick with until she can sit still and not act crazy everytime I detangle her hair.

I understand how she feels I have a Mexican father and a white mother and I am the only one in my family that got my dad's curly hair and my mom was always at a loss when it came to my hair, my dad was the only one who could brush my hair without making me cry. A little tip, aloe vera gel mixed with lemon juice is a good detangler, heat protectant, and it can also strengthen the scalp so it won't be so tender. If you use the aloe vera gel that has lidocaine in it then it can very mildly numb her scalp as well.

Try the dyson hair dryer for the blow dry. Shampoo and then condition with Tresemme moisture rich conditioner. Now the hair is clean add natural oil mix olive shea coconut and avocado oils. Section hair into three chuncks. When you blow dry use the fork or pick attachment. Add a little heat spray to protect the hair. On a warm setting gently pass the pick threw the ends of the hair. Remember your not trying to straighten the hair your just softening it. Your not drying it just taking some of it of water off the hair. Always work in big sections, three sections or four is fine. Finger detangle the worse bits and use a wide tooth comb. Also a small bristle brush to tidy up the edges. You can always use some of the Tresemme moisture rich conditioner as a leave in. Just add a little on the ends of the hair.

My hair shrinks so damn much, you have to actually climb on top of my head to look for it! The shrinkage is soooooooo wrong!
I have been natural for 20 years- used to get my hair washed steam and pressed every two weeks. My hair is mixed on one side with a loose curl and typical 4c on the other side (come more like a 4Z)! I could not handle my hair and my hairdresser is amazing but although my hair is long (just beneath shoulders), it fell out really badly with both my pregnancies (was bra strap length before I got pregnant), but despite being kept in good condition, has never grown back. I stopped pressing now, because I want to see how the growth stays without the heat in my hair and can no longer take the pain i feel when it is being blow dried straight but man, I am not handling the shrinkage at all!

    @Supa Natural hello 👋
My daughter has the same type of hair as your daughter. What I do to detangle my daughter's hair before I shampoo and conditioner it is I combine eggs, honey, olive oil & sometimes add mayonnaise. Then apply the mixture to her hair. Place plastic cap on her head & leave mixture on for 20-30 minutes or however long you feel. Then you rinse out with cool water. Following shampoo and conditioner wash. Part hair in 4sections. Then I mix together Jamaican Castor oil & Argan oil conditioner (grease) to her hair & scalp. Then comb from ends to roots of hair then blow dry each section and style. My daughter loves the egg treatment because it makes her hair manageable to comb & style plus she has a tender head. Just a lil pointer from mom to mom😀💖 thanks for sharing because I never knew the type of hair my daughter has until I ran across your video. So now I know my daughter have 4c hair.
