Single pilot ops: The benefits of the multi-crew concept are indisputable. I equally vouch for the process where I learnt the bulk of what I know from the more experienced colleagues I shared a flight deck with. How would this knowledge transfer happen in a complex single-crew environment? Being an FO is a tried and tested apprenticeship programme.
