Mastering The QRH | Made Easy For Beginners!
The QRH, or Quick Reference Handbook, is an essential tool for aviation professionals, particularly for flight crew members during abnormal or emergency situations. It is a compact, easily accessible manual that contains checklists and procedures for dealing with a wide range of non-normal conditions that might occur during flight, such as engine failures, pressurization issues, or electrical system malfunctions.
The importance of the QRH lies in its ability to provide immediate, concise guidance, allowing pilots to manage and mitigate risks swiftly and effectively. This handbook is designed for quick reference, ensuring that critical steps are not overlooked under stress, thereby enhancing safety, reducing workload, and facilitating the decision-making process in high-pressure scenarios.
The QRH complements the aircraft's Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM) but is specifically tailored for rapid response, making it indispensable for maintaining operational integrity and crew composure.

Guys you need to dig deeper. Boohoo at least they gave jobs and are overpaid to start. Done say they are the best yet during covid three were arrested for not adhering to safety standards during covid in Brussels. If they looking for money it's time to collect all the gravy train golden handshake money and while you about it collect the 80% outstanding payment in the SAA property sale if land in Cape town waterfront from the buyers and the 20% deposit from her ladyship Ms Manuel who whilst working for the ANC before ABSA took the deposit and it went missing.
South Africa.......a 1st class sh1thole!
The pilots at SAA V2.0 willingly decided to go back and work for a fucktard organisation that has prioritised political agendas. SAA destroyed the livelihoods of a lot of people at SAX and Mango whilst handsomely rewarding SAA staff with retrenchment packages. And because of the above, I have no sympathy for their cause. Bitter much? Me? Damn right I am. 😂 I am extremely grateful though that all this is going down in SA, it got me looking for opportunities elsewhere. And I think I found a great one.
Who of SAA strike? WTF? Your job is to get and keep an aeroplane in the air, and the to land it safely. Do you think you are in the taxi industry. Fire the strikers.
Just shut the airline down for once and for all . The pilots can go and find jobs overseas if they are up to scratch . Millions in SA are unemployed , SAA has been kept as a vanity project for the government, but just eats desperately needed tax money .
Thanks for the comment Hedley. Appreciate the support and engagement.
If the benchmark is higher it just means there are fewer profitable airlines. These pilots were kept on half salary during the business rescue proceedings, They should have rather been paid off. The pilots will ruin SAA and then they won't get the salaries that they require. The airlines are becoming expensive because the bloody pilots are pushing the salaries up.
They were paid off. They got severance packages but now they are back and want a raise.
As they are too inept to make responsible, adult decisions on the ground, they will be clueless when there's a flame-out at 35,000'. Surely, I think they lack common sense and discernment. I don't fly with utter idiots. They are already flying on lift created by the taxpayer, so why should we further patronise their unthankful, immature and selfish greed.
These pilots are well trained and 100% competent. It comes down to money.
Those talking about pilots being paid too much etc …..just take into consideration….the amount of time these guys spend away from home, from their loved ones, the wives that are virtually raising their children single handedly..there is a very high divorce rate amongst them….if you think it’s glamorous, you try a frozen meal in the evening after you’ve spent eighteen hours in the air… then there is the responsibility, I couldn’t think of anything more stressful than being responsible for 350+ lives every time you go to work, then there is the constant business of keeping up to date with latest technology and all the studying, training that is a constant feature of your career…you really don’t have a normal life…don’t complain about high salaries, they deserve them, I know when I get in a plane that man at the control has my life and the lives of my loved ones literally in his hands…im not in any way connected but I have friends who were pilots and I have nothing but respect for them…
Thanks for the comment Bonny. Yes unhappy pilots are not a good recipe for safety.
Saa pilots were paid international benchmarked salaries .. at version 1 ..good to see that has finally come to an end .. you can always leave to Aus or UK .. if you are unhappy .
This might just be the straw that breaks the camels backs Larren. Your sentiments are shared by many.
These pilots must be bottom of the pile , cant get jobs elsewhere. 😢
They are mainly all ex SAA version 1 pilots, so they are bottom of the pile by any means. All well trained and highly competent. I guess like many they want employment at home but opportunities are scarce locally. 🇿🇦
.... same within the MEDICAL field..... We slowely, but surely, jumping this SA TITANIC.... 'ship' starting to lean more and more towards the front and starting to take in SEWAGE WATER..... Now i need Celine Dion to sing.... Lol! 😊
Let's discuss this when a bus load of GP's, physicians, dermatologists, neurologists, oncologists can finally diagnose diabetes. It took them well over 45 years, so if they want to pack for Perth, let them. No loss in that.
@Afriqueleblanq IDIOT!
It's a sad state of affairs, 😔 - Thanks for the comment pal.
It's a nice conversation (From pilots' point of view)... Every part of an airline is an integral part of that airline. SAA pilots probably fly the least of any South African airline but want to be paid way more than all others. GREEDY!!! ... That's the only description of SAAPA.
Thanks for the support @vhosmith
Clearly the greedy SAAPA has stuck to their greedy tendencies. They want to put SAA straight back to where they had them before business rescue.
What does it cost to put a 737 into the sky.? What profit does an airline make per flight?
None , make a loss because the profit is embezzlement rewards by BEE
Airlines make minimal profit. Not a money making business.
Most entertaining... 😄 I'm keen to learn to fly gliders as a start in aviation... Do you perhaps have any recommendations in that regard, i.e. good schools and how best to go about it? Many thanks
I dont Scott.
Thanks guys
Appreciate the support, pal. 👊🏻
The transition from SAA V1 to V2 was handled in a deplorable manner. Those chased out were at least, paid handsomely to leave, unlike others at Mango and SAX. Any pilot returning to SAA V2 has willingly sold their soul to the devil-in this case, an incompetent and bankrupt devil. Despite our government behaving like communists, we are technically a free market economy. SAA and its shareholder, South Africa, are in financial distress. If you seek different employment terms, take those hard-earned and in-demand skills and get on with it.
And the efficient Comair was taken down, flown into the ground in boardroom meetings. Dig for the truth.
100% Al. This is the general sentiment amongst us too.
Hey @macfly10 hows life in Canada? you flying again.
They should be thankful that they have jobs at SAA, they should be prepared to fly for free to save the airline. I certainly would not book a flight on SAA
It's the other way around, SAA should be thankful that they still have pilots to fly for them. The world is hungry for pilots.
Your sentiments are shared by many @econmandurban. Not my airline of choice by any stretch of the imagination. I was at SA Express who basically got raped by Version 1 leaving our staff with nothing but R3000 for 25 years of service. They can go to hell as far as I am concerned.
People forget that a large share of an airlines cost are USD based. All SAA pilots Airbus rated, Wizzair looking for Airbus pilots........
Who cares? They're flying a dead dodo anyhow. I'll walk, let them Whizz away in their sim card tubes.
Thanks for the comment and engagement Anton.
There I agree with you, SA pilots in the middle east and worldwide actually are seen as some of the best. its ias also what we are also hated in most earopean areas.... besides that, yes , aviation salaries is much better for SA pilots than in the rest of the world. Ill give you this, I do average 45 hours a month, my salary related to SA is R250 000 as an FO. But look where you live, expenses are higher over seas. would I ever come back? i tried once with air link and was told, too old , too experienced. WTF
If you feel you are bigger than your current circumstances then, by all means, (What I really mean is F*** Off). This is SA. We don't have Emirates Money. If you want Emirates Money then why are you still here¿
I tried with Link and was told, too old. Thats crazy pal. I think you are better off with current gig in all honesty.
@@jacobester5732 Why drink and drive, when you can smoke and fly? :-)
Yeah compared to 10-15 yrs ago airline ticket prices are higher. Although recently got a good deal on FlySafair for about R2100 on a return journey between George and Joburg-OR Tambo. Pretty decent considering I've seen some tickets going for close to R3k on the same route. Also, FlySafair is launching Lanseria to George daily as from March 2025.
Fully agree Jacques. I think the ticket prices are low considering the increases we see everywhere else.
Very well explained, thanks you. More videos of ERJ-145🙏
This podcast has been dedicated to African aviation since inception, you have inspired and motivated through your own dedication and discipline! Love the idea of aviation personnel awards - do it!! Thank you for all that you are 😊
Thanks for the kind words Caroline. You are an inspiration to us and we will always have your back. Thanks for believing in us.
Good job guys!! Look forward to next year. Use the $66 to go have some more beers together 🤣🍻🍻
Cheers to that! 🍻
thanks for the video :):)
Awesome idea - celebrating pilots and cabin crew! Well done on an amazing year of brilliant pod casts! Rest well - enjoy spending time with your families. Looking forward to all the new pod casts in 2025
Sad news about Paramount! They have great military equipment
Hi bryan what are some good apps that can assist with ones first ERJ P2 Rating specfically for ERJ135 it would be cool to get a video of other aircraft types if you can.
Merry Christmas. We will be waiting for you in the new year.
From what I believe, South Africa is co-hosting the next cricket world cup in 2027 in terms of big sporting events.
Have a good rest guys and thanks for entertaining us while stuck in hotels around the world!!!
Happy holidays guys 🎄🥂
Guys, hope you enjoy your holiday. Sad there won't be another podcast...... what I really enjoy about this podcast is you guys don't hold back.... no wokeness and no shit, hopefully, next year, we might have that beer.
Thanks Jaco - I think you have just designed the about section for our podcast. "no wokeness and no shit". This is our guarantee,. Thank you for your incredible support. I will be sending all the Patreons another video before year end.
Weldon Captain!
Do you know if the international routes has Bag track system
Thank you Bryan
Never professed to be perfect? Well, you’re pretty damn close guys! I just love your show 👍👌❤️
Thank you Duncan. 👊🏻✈️
I Love this show too
Very good captain thank you … see u December 1 😉
Nicely presented. Conversation done overseas spend significant time on mastering the FMS before any sim training. Here...the emphasis is on singing verbatim poems that is called briefings😂
We heard the spirit crew on frequency when it happened while we were flying through Port Au Prince airspace
Hectic Gav. Fly safely there man.
Another awesome show, gents! Stay authentic and say it as it is. That’s what makes the show the World’s Premier Aviation Podcast.
@@ryanparrock thanks Ryan, luckily we stay well out over the ocean when we fly through their airspace. Place looks nice from far but far from nice by the sounds of it. Thanks for another lekker show! 👊🏼
That was a great show lads. Echoing Mike's comment. Always be authentic. Authentic is defendable because it's grounded in common sense and fact.
I was a JHB radar controller and now retired airline pilot. From a pure workload perspective I can assure you that driving that radar screen is much more demanding than flying. It is like a full on sim session every day you go to work.
Im sure that skyjet africa or skylink or Vamos or whatever its called today will pick up some of Fly Safairs market share. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
SAA up to mischief again.
Cape Winelands = Fisantekraal
Western society appears to be embracing a reset on common sense and authenticity thanks in no small part to alternative media, in particular, podcasting. Safair: The ownership regulations have to be complied with by all players to ensure a level playing field. If they are found to be non-compliant I hope they correct the matter ASAP as their product and presence in SA is vital. The whole foreign ownership cap is a debate on it's own.
Thanks Al. Yes, they are a pivotal player in our SA market. Appreciate your support 😊
Hey guys, great podcast. Here is some quick info on the Cape Town runway. From my understanding, they wanted to remove the old Air Force base at Cape Town and use that land for a parallel runway....... It was in the works years ago. Second Airport.... Its Fisantekraal Airport (old Air Force runway) is north of Durbanville. Been discussed for years, but also some dubious players have been involved in that one for years....
100 %. Thanks Jaco 👍🏻🍺
@@ryanparrock thanks mate, its called research :) btw maybe you should let Bryan send me your details, already sent him some additional info, but I think he is in the abyss
Thanks for the feedback. Interesting luminous object over the Red Sea. I saw it myself a few weeks ago near the Red Sea on a flight back from Marisa Alam into Europe. Was a really strange and unexplainable phenomenon. We took photos. Back at base, our colleagues thought we lost the plot.
I’ve had a few reports from guys who have spotted these luminous objects. I think I’d kak myself .
Gents. FlySafair. Your comment about this being ‘dirty tactics’ from other airlines is quite an indictment on these ‘other airlines’. I find this comment quite bizarre and disappointing.
You’re right Brad. The word dirty is too strong and not accurate.
Flysafair will never be shut down we all had this airline for a long time and now and I will be a flight attendint for flysafair and I'm gonna work hard and fly in that plane anywhere. Cause flysafair is now our helper for our boks and taking us everywhere around sa it's now time to support safair and help them our country depends on that airline ❤😢
.
