My beautiful wife gave me a 1980 strat for my 40th a couple of years ago. Classic fender- sunburst, maple board and a white pick guard.
It’s not the best instrument ever but by far my favourite of my collection.
To steal Colin’s thunder, she’s a keeper. And the guitar is too 🤣. Great playing Colin. I watch all your videos multiple times to hear your jams. Thanks for what you do.

Collin, Something about you that always impresses me is your obvious honesty, and down to earthiness. I'm not a telecaster fan, I don't now why, I just don't like telecasters, but your video this week gives me a little bit of respect and appreciation of them.
Even so, here you present a nice variety and when listened to closely, I can hear some clear differences between them. So, just like every other guitar, none sound, feel, or play the same, making it important to sample playing several, before buying one.
Until I started watching this channel I had little knowledge about guitar "mechanics", now I am slowly becoming a guitar nerd, not a bad thing. Still I will leave messing with the electronics to a pro, well maybe one day.
I have been toying with the idea of buying a good quality ES 335 kit guitar and build my ultimate, this channel has given me a lot of insight as to electronics choices, etc. With a few good choices and a whole lot of work, a really great 335 style guitar can be had for close to 1/3 the cost of a Gibson, with all the quality stuff found in one. First off though you have to have a good quality kit.
I am looking forward to your "put off" comparison, hopefully soon. ;-)

I have a Tele around here somewhere. You've got me thinking I might need to dig it out and see what I need to do to get it back to playable again. I know it had some extremely microphonic pickups but other than that I think it was in pretty good shape.
I've always been on the fence about Teles. Strats were more my thing before I went back to Les Pauls. Thankfully Epiphone makes some great guitars these days so I didn't have to sell the farm to get one!!!

I have another four T styles including the engraved top one in my avatar, a Schecter, the Harley Benton Prince model and a kit guitar. I love telecasters and I love the story about your wife treating you to that 72 tele, for your birthday. She is definitely a keeper and like you said, the both of them, lol. I own one tele, and it’s an American Pro surf green with an all rosewood. My wife bought it for me, along with an amplifier as well. She knew I always wanted a telecaster and one day I got sick and collapsed in front of her and ended up dying, but revived in the ambulance on the way to the hospital thanks to her calling for emergency services right away. Then I died 4 more times in the hospital and was revived each time, thankfully. Well, after spending 3 months in the hospital and unable to walk for a total of 6 months, she thought it was a good time for me to have that tele I always wanted. The sad part of my story is that my wife passed away 14 months after I left the hospital. She was my caretaker as well and because of her and some therapy, I learned how to walk again. I miss her every second of every day. Thanks for showing us your beautiful tele collection. I love them, and I love your show. I wait for the new episodes every week. Very enjoyable and I love your style of playing. You have a great unique style of playing, and you play with a lot of heart. Thank you.

in the autumn of our years, we put away many of the sticky fripperies of our younger lives - we focus on the important things in life - we discover good scotch whiskey, we concentrate on the people and things that really matter, we hate Tories and Johnson in particular, we put effects pedals in disused shoe boxes and stash them in the dusty, cobwebby attics and cellars above and below us and we plug telecasters into overdriven fender amps and become young again , just for a moment.

Been looking forward to this! OK so I have a story, please show sympathy for me, it actually happened today (coincidence). I'm in a vintage guitar store down here in Australia.. I've seen a Fender road worn Tele 50's, in vintage blonde, which I have been waiting two days to come to the store thanks to being stuck at work. Anyway, I'm in the store, playing the guitar, its been maybe 20 minutes in and a question or two in confirming some points about the guitar... and I get a visit from the sales clerk, thinking they will throw in a pick or something. Alas no, they tell me the guitar has been sold online and that I had to give it back to them!! Which I did, sadly, kindly and very disappointedly. What are peoples thoughts about this? I mean its basically in my 'cart' and someone has gone in and purchased it from another location which requires them shipping it out apparently. What a sad state of affairs'. I'm still gutted. Oh yeah, this weeks video...time to watch.. cheers!

I took the white polyurethane finish off a Squier Classic Vibe ‘50’s Tele and I know what you mean. I needed a heat gun, then lots and lots of sanding. I routed under the pickguard and gave it an arm cut and a belly carve and I was able to take 2.5lbs off a 10lb Tele. I stained it see-through purple and put a Poly finish on it. It’s just beautiful and light and still sounds great. It has the Alnico III pickups in it, and I prefer them over the Alnico V pickups that are in the Squier Classic Vibe’50’s Butterscotch Tele.

Nice tele show! Love the white 70s tele. I had a 70s Fender Strat way back when and I hated it. Could never get the action right and it was so difficult to play. All these Tele's sound great. Thanks for sharing.

I just bought the Fender Telecaster Original 70s version of your 72 custom. Same sunburst finish and pickup configuration. It only weighs 3.6 kg. So I was happy with the weight given yours is 10 pounds. (I was fortunate to be able to weigh at the guitar shop). The other difference is mine has a rosewood fretboard. I’m very happy with this guitar. It’s my first and only telecaster. I grew up in the 70s as well - so it’s a good Covid recovery present for myself. Well that’s the justification for this one anyway.

Brilliant! The King of Informality. Love a good Tele and you obviously have a few. The one that got my eyes and ears jumping was your Joe Strummer. Sounds good, looks great and with a P90 in the neck, what’s not to like? I’m blessed to have a partscaster assembled for me by a bunch of US mates, basically a blackguard Micawber. My go-to for most styles of playing. Yes I’m waffling now, so I’ll shut up. Cheers, peace and thanks for all you do.

Cool video this week. I don’t think I’ve ever played a tele, honestly. I know they’re super versatile, but to me they just seem like a twangy country guitar. I’m more of a Gibson design guy, and I guess if I’m going to play a Fender design then I lean towards the Strat. All that being said, great collection of axes. It’s pretty evident that they make you happy. And that’s the number one thing a great guitar should do! Cheers!

I've been wanting to do the class when I retire and I think that you've inspired me to build my own Telecaster.

funnily enough I changed the saddles on my Wilco tele for the brass Wilkinson compensated saddles. much better. your 74' looks better than mine, mine is Olympics white, but mine has gone yellow. I changed guard for a black one, and mine is a maple board. and mine has had the bridge changed for a brass 6saddle mighty mite ashtray to make it look like a Keith Richards Micawber, the bloke who had it before me was in a stone's tribute band, even down to gouging out the neck pick up cavity to fit a humbucker, but when I got it it had been put back to original lipstick pickup . but I agree with you 79's teles are great.

Very nice. I can't believe you posted this today. The last week or two I've been telling myself I need a Tele. A few years ago I had one of the FMTHH Special Edition. I think that's right. Was a nice guitar but really the only thing Tele about it was the body shape. Or, outline. I'd like something more traditional. All of yours sound great. I'd have to say I favored the white one. Maybe it's just me but your jam had kind of an Allman Brothers tone. Sounded good.
