  • After spending all this time creating amazing pressure canned food, you must check if your seals, have properly sealed by doing a LID CHECK.
something you must do, and can be done many ways, some use a spoon or knife tapping method, others use a finger like I do.
I also open a fresh sealed jar to demonstrate how tight they seal, and do a first time taste testing with review of what canned venison tastes like.

Ring should always be off in storage. If your food spoils it will create gas and will build up pressure forcing the gas out of the lid breaking the seal. If the ring is on it requires more pressure to break the seal and the gas from the spoiled food may remain in the jar and go undetected.

I agree I leave them all off but also I check them by the lid test also to be safe along with smell

You are correct, do not store pressure canned foods with the ring on.

Raymond Williams that’s awesome I’m putting together different recipes for this fall wanna do some cool stuff. Do you think adding vegetables makes them soggy? Being the meat goes for 1.5 hours usually vegetables go for 30 minutes. I was wanting to do full stews like canned soups from the store so I’ll have to look into it further

How much time after you pull the jars out of the canner should you unscrew the covers and remove them? Thank you. Also, if one didn't pop does it have to be used because it cannot be saved?

I leave my rings on the jars all year or longer, but if you were going to remove them I would say once they fully cool down would be appropriate so the jars don’t crack. Correct, for the second part if a jar does not seal properly I would use it that week because once canned under pressure the lids should not be reused again, and if you try doing it again the contents will turn to mush and in my opinion not be worth it. Thanks for watching
