This is my first batch of canning pasta sauce. I had done a LOT of research and was super worried about why as soon as I pulled the cans out, they started popping. Found your video.... Thank you so much!
If you physically push the lid down the seal may not be strong. You want the suction during the cooling process to pull that lid down. I would not trust those seals.
love that 'popping' sound and yes it does sometimes happen before I even get the jar out of the canner...still like the sound though. Thanks for sharing you knowledge. Cheers from NB Canada
That is an interesting question. Normally if you just used your fingernails I'd question it. BUT, I know nothing about dip nails. In your case I'd listen for a sucking sound when you take off the lid. That would indicate a vacuum. But only you can tell if the jar was sealed.
I call a good seal when you see and feel the center of the lid is smooth, no evidence of the bump in the middle of the lid. What if.....a lid "dimples", where the jar is sealed, but you can still very very slightly see and feel the edges of the bump, and the center of the bump is depressed or "dimpled"....the witness marks are so light you wonder if you are imagining it. Also frustrating, it doesn't happen to every jar within the batch. I struggle with this decision....I have and haven not reproceessed based on this frustrating anomaly. The sealed jars not reprocessed for this condition are stored at the front of the line and get used first. Anyone know what causes this to happen?
I'm just sitting next to my canner (4th batch of canning, so still very new at this) and I'm having the same thing. It isn't even up to processing pressure of 11 lbs. and I've already heard 5 or 6 pops. You're not alone! :-)
Just canned for the first time and was nervous about the popping sound. So glad I found your video !
Same! Never canned before and I *just* took jars out of canner and here is the popping sound.
@@a.h.6404 Yay, I'm glad it was reassuring.
Hi, if I didn't hear the popping sound does that mean they are not sealed properly, & if so, where from there? Thank you
Where's the rest of the explanation? What if the seal has popped up? Do I put it back into the boiling water?

After my lids sealed 2 popped back up, what does this mean.
Thank you so much for this video as I am first time canner. I am scared I have to toss this batch of apple butter.
Thank you for sharing ❤
What happens if we physically press the seal down after removing? Does that affect anything

Thank you beautiful. I was so worried. 😟
The popping sound is the cherry on top of your hard work 😂.

Anyone know what causes this to happen?
Sometimes it makes me wonder if its caused by a bad batch of lids....
What if it keeps re- popping
What I’d they don’t ping but they’re sealed
As long as they seal it is fine. You won't always hear the ping. It is just reassuring when you do.
Very helpful!! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
What happens if some don't pop at all?

While I am heating my pressure canner from 5 psi to 10 psi, I hear my jars pop like they are sealing. What am I doing wrong? Thank you
