- Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Episode VII)
Special Effects by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM)
Three decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat arises. The First Order attempts to rule the galaxy and only a ragtag group of heroes can stop them, along with the help of the Resistance.
Some of the best and most funniest movie moments happen behind the scenes. Holy crap dude, the detail they put in to model this trench only for some of it to be in maybe just one frame.
Not to mention the detail they put in that gun at 3:12 only to be put in the corner and hidden by fog. You can only see it for less than a second.
i know! probably a lot of repeated patters so they probably just designed 1 piece of the trench and just repeated, maybe also made out of a lot of kitbash sci-fi greeble objects. it was also very dark and very stylistically lit so i assume texturing and applying materials wouldn't have been that time consuming:)
The middle is basically there which means battlefront 2 could have used it
1:13 if those pilots were really CGI then imagine what the clone army would look like in this modern CGI tech, more human
You know I always am like VFX makers and the Story makers are two completely different things when it comes to movies like this. Like for the time the vfx was golden and even for today.
This looks awesome !! :)
amazing
ILM are such gods!
"We'll do like the old times..."😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol people hate the prequels for too much VFX yet all this movie is, is more VFX. (What parts of this movie were actually real? Not much.)
people hate the prequels because there was a lot of crappy acting and dialogue. Plus there was a lot of fully CGI characters in it while this one blended real life visuals with CGI much better.
+Mr Someone The Phantom Menace probably had the most practical sets out of all of the prequels while Attack of the Clones had the least.
Lol the reel is five minutes long, and it has very few scenes. The Attack on the Jakku Village, Rey's introduction, meeting Han, Scaping Kanjiklub, ETC ETC, has MINIMAL CGI additions, if there was one about Episode III, this video would take hours. I can clearly see you don't understand shit about cinema. It happens :)
if people look behind the scenes of the prequels they will come to know many sets were practical. Ututapau sink city was itself a minature and detailed model
Gabriel Bacci No, actually Revenge of the Sith had the most practical effects in a Star Wars film. Palpatine's office, the Jedi Chambers, the Duel with Count Dooku, The Wookies and Kashyyk were practical, Utapu was quite practical, Mustafar was as well. It has way more practical effects than TFA. The Phantom Menace was the second most Practical, the Underwater spaceship thing was practical, so we're the shots of Naboo, most of the droids being cut through we're Practical, the AAT tanks in the segment where they rescue Queen Amidala were real life size tanks, the AAT tanks being exploded were Practical, the Podracers crashing were Practical, the whole hanger bay on Naboo was real, The Separatist flagship was real. Attack of the Clones had the least but it was only missing out on a couple: The Bar on Coruscant was, even the actual buildings on coruscant were mostly practical as well, Dexters diner was, a lot of the aliens were, Kamino was 3/4 Practical with the actors being placed on, the duel between Obi Wan and Jango Fett was Practical, I could go on and on. The Force Awakens claimed to do something the Prequels couldn't, use more practical effects when in fact The Force Awakens used more CGI and VFX than the whole of the Prequels put together
I saw it once, I wont see It again.
I like actual professional have no problems with the prequels methods being used in episode VII, and express teh pain of their jobs.
One day, I want to make my own star wars inspired movie
Uau todas as vezes que vejo os efeitos fico com vontade de trabalhar com isso para América e de mais espero que o Brasil um dia possa fazer engual
Imagine how great it would have been if the story didn't suck?
Impressive
I love fx
what was the use of making such a detailed crashed destroyer? the outer exterioir would have been enough of just a matte painting.
and people dont hate all the cgi in this but bash prequels because it makes them cool? if anything prequels showed a more depth of the universe than this one.
Agreed, George's 6 films expanded the universe, the prequels brought many new elements and characters to that.
This film and it's sequel have brought nothing new at all into the Star Wars universe, except regurgitating things that already existed, pandering to stupid people who are stuck in the past and can't handle anything new.
George Lucas Start Wars films > Disney's!
Says a man without a sense of humour
But when the Last Jedi does the exact opposite, everyone loses their shit
@The Last Danite Everyone who says this probably absolutely loves the Back to the Future trilogy, which features a three-time recurring gag about Biff getting horse shit dumped all over him.
Ah, but you see, those poo jokes were achieved with PRACTICAL effects, which makes them more artistic!
Nowhere near as impressive as the SFX masters of the OT.
One doesn't get time to appreciate anything, it goes by wayyyy to fast.
es todo 3d.
with which programs was Star Wars edited?
Windows movie maker.
now seriously, probably nuke, houdini, maya, and who knows, they probably got they own software packages and plugins that are exclusive for their pipeline method.
bonjour je suis en vacances et que je suis
So this all was not real?
if you can't tell does it even matter
Theres no magic in this industrial
37 commentaries damn peoples are ignorant !
This is some serious shit 0.0
i thought that portions guy was real and some of the backgrounds were matte painting, i guess how hard u try u cant not use CGI for this shit
Yep, I thought it was a rubber mold on top of an actor, until I saw a behind the scenes footage of Uncar Plott.
Great you have ruined it for me :-(
*obi wan voice* You have done that yourself.
