- This full-length reel represents a sample of the work created for over 1750 shots by hundreds of artists, scientists, and engineers around the world.
We hope you enjoy the reel which was screened at SIGGRAPH 2017's Computer Animation Festival and debuted world-wide on the September 27th episode The Star Wars Show.

To this day this movie is the best cgi I have ever scene, The way the light interacted with the star destroyers is amazing, and the director really knows how to capture the size of objects
The special effects on this movie's space battle look way better than TFA and TLJ
Well he did direct Godzilla 2014
Talkin CG was unconvincing from day one however, and it's only getting worse over time.
maulCS well reason was mainly they either use too much or just too unrealistic
But TLJ at least looks fantastic and apart from the space scenes even better than rogue one.
It's so cool that old unused footage from ANH was used!
Les Salazar don’t you think that they should have given credit to George Lucas for directing that footage?
@@darthkurland George Lucas is in the credits, take a look.
It’s so cool that this comment has 77 like. Because you know, 1977, ANH ?
What footage??

This movie has what is one of, if not, my favorite final battle in Star Wars
Same
I totally agree hopefully there will be another...
Pity the rest of the movie has such bad pacing!
The only good movie after 1st trilogy....all rest just sucks
shazmosushi 🤦♂️🤷♂️
To this day Rogue One is still the best Star Wars movie from Disney and one of the best prequel of the franchise.
and still it is a crappy movie
@@carloorelli3538 you’re crazy
@@brucish not at all. It's a patcwork of countless rewrite and reshoot. Without an idea from the beginning, this is the kind of stuff you get. An inchoerent sequence of chapters that in the end have less value than a good fan made video
Rogue One isn’t better than Solo. It has a number of distinct problems, notably a very unenjoyable lead.
@@ironcladnomad5639 both have unenjoyable leads and both have miserable villains. Solo is worse, however, because it touches Han Solo's past that should have been left untouched
This movie had the most glorious space battle in the entire saga.
I agree!!!
I liked when they didn't use the lightspeed kamikaze technique to destroy every capital ship!
The movie looks so good because the director was a VFX artist himself
And he insisted on the effects to closely resemble the look and feel of the original Star Wars effects from A New Hope.
People at industrial light and magic are just genius. They made the whole city!
Rogue One is one of my favorite Star Wars films. It wasn't just a good Star Wars film, it was an excellent war movie.
2:01 thats my favourite hyperspace jump in all of star wars
This is such a cool example of the work it takes to make even one simple scene come to life. Incredible.
I feel like this movie is so underrated
Not underrated. It made over 1b in box office. But really good and one of my favorites.
You guys should give this CG mapping of the Jeda city to DICE/EA so that they can build a game map out of it for Battlefront 2.
That would be one big map...
Benjamin Martinez true
But now at least Scarif comes to SWBF2
SW- Nerd good point
it would look good but it would have WAAAAAY too many polygons to be playable, maybe they could simplify it for a background or something, but not as an actual playable map
The coolest parts for me was the lighting on everything.... tarkin.... and red and gold leader being in the movie. Wow it was unexpected, and fucking awesome.
Why does this film feel more like Star Wars than any of the new trilogy films
The hunter channel because they wrote a complete story at once instead of one section at a time.
I guess Rogue one had a story to tell, and the postology didn't...
Because they had a great Director 👌💪😎
@@MasterOrona ...unlike the original trilogy which was written one section at a time.
Because JJ Abrams was not involved with this one.
Rogue One is a masterpiece , my all time favorite Star Wars movie, it had everything I loved about Star Wars since I was a kid, felt like a dream come true watching it 🙌 That Darth Vader hallway scene was perfection 😊
Best Disney Star Wars movie, period
I disagree... but it's subjective.
Man... This movie is so well made. All of it it's remarkable, the special effects, the plot, the direction. I wish all Star Wars movies were like this. Sadly this movie is just an anomaly between mediocre movies.
Yassir Rossel It’s easily the best of the newer Star Wars movies that have been released. I still don’t hate the sequel trilogy ones, but Rogue One is still far superior in every way.
Never been a Star Wars fan - after Rogue One I've turned into a manic fangirl of the universe and a drooling fanfic writer.
Apart of the incredible technical side of the movie, there is also lots of pure magic in it.
Vilian It had the action, the emotion, and the grittiness. You felt the War. The Wars in Star Wars was put into this film really really well. Welcome to the SW universe my friend. One of the greatest stories ever told.
actually is pretty bad for my personal point of view
@@sharktoof1 💜 Thanks! Must've been the grittiness factor - making the setting more believable, less fairytale-ish, from the very start. Ten minutes in and I was already sold. Then there was the moment when it all had hit me like a brick between the eyes, and boom! here I am now, fangirling hard for three years and counting, slowly learning more and more about SW.
💚 Crocheting Baby Yoda at the moment, BTW 😅
This entire movie was so badass.
Me: "That looks like afun place to visit"
*watches ILM Behind the scenes
Me: "oh, never mind" :(
At this rate, ILM practically has a monopoly on Hollywood VFX.
The best Star Wars movie since Disney took over.
I definitely agree with you. I enjoyed much of Rogue One a lot. But let's not kid ourselves, best since Disney took over is not a high bar.
It's a crime that ILM hasn't won an Oscar for their contributions in VFX quite a while.
...please ILM...I want MOAR!!!
This was one amazing Star Wars movie.
Putting in so much detail that we might never see! True mark of artists who genuinely love what they are doing.
I really wish we could explore Jeddah in a game or something. this model design bare gets enough love and respect.
This is arguably ILM’s best work
These videos are seemingly ALWAYS far too short.
Everything in the movie just looked amazing, love watching the breakdowns after watching the movies.
These behind the magic videos are works of art in themselves.
Simply Amazing. It must be a pleasure and an honour to work in Industrial Light & Magic.
Amazing job. Truly amazing.
This is amazing.
Whoever worked on this breakdown went crazy, amazing work!
Impressive! Most Impressive!
the first song used in this is called "unstoppable force" by John Mottram for anyone curious
Literally the best Star Wars movie of the last 15 years.
Good lord this is the best edited BTS 😍🎬
OMG, when, you look this video, you can see, how much ILM is THE BEST of THE BEST VFX COMPAGNY in this planet
A great movie. Excellent work guys
The best film of the decade
0:17 Jedha is like Jerusalem
Maybe they make Jedha with inspiration of Jerussalem?
Yup, it was

Diego Imbraguglio Jedha sounds like it was named after Jeddah (city near Mecca)
@@Barri2410 thanks! 😁
@@diegoimbraguglio3738 hehe 😁
The details are mind boggling.
definitely one of my favorite starwars movies
ILM: making all other effects look like garbage since 1977
Since 2015

Well, it's the same company... they only changed the name.
This is easily the best star wars movie in recent years
Such an epic video + music to go along with it
this was the best movie out of the new lots.... great work here....
amazing work.
The Princess Leía efect was amazing. How can this movie didn't win the Oscar?
Rogue One should've won over Jungle Book
All of Blue was destroyed in the Battle of Scarif, which is why it was only Red and Gold in ANH attacking the Death Star.
This is fantastic
fantastic.
The Ghost from SW: Rebels in the lower left at 2:09
The best star wars movie of the Disney era
The best of the Disney Star Wars movies, the magic of the CGI is one of the reasons that it is
For me personally, "Rogue One" is the only movie I need to see before "A New Hope".
The cgi work on this film (and those like it nowadays) is mind blowing!
Magic is a good word for it.
we want the this soundtrack please :D
Everyone's commenting this is "the best Disney SW movie" like it's a hot take
This effects reel is better than the movie.
Truly captured the look . It’s mind boggling that it’s not the standard for all Star Wars projects . Instead of the mess we’re given .
最近の「この映画の特撮シーンはこおいう要素を組み立てて作ったのだ」という「各要素がカチャカチャと組み上がっていく」っていう絵が、本当に面白いし楽しいし勉強になるなあ!!
Filling a plot hole from A New Hope. "Who the one that stole Death Star plan?" There it is. Rogue One
A masterpiece!
a great job , for a amazing movie , rogue one is a best movie about expanse universe of Star Wars saga , it made so good that go inside in the original trilogy Star Wars 4 , 5 , 6 that seem born both in same time , perfectly inside the story line
CGI is so underrated, man
The only Disney Starwars they did probably!!! And yes CGI was awesome 👏
Ilm set the bar that all others followed
the cgi in this movie is the best i have ever seen
Rogue One kicks ass.
WoW!!! Bravo👏👏👏👏👏
WHO saw the GHOST SHIP at 2:08 awesome totally awesome
Love these ILM magic of things how they come complete to make a scene scenarios happen closest I'd come is to become a editor of star wars but in my own creation of explaining the SW SAGA UNIVERSE my call sign to my channel would be oops sorry slipped the mind plus love watching BTS and Technology to these movies anyways loved every bit of it
May The Force Be With You
ILM ❤️
Nice
Hooray for the good Disney Star Wars movie!
Red leaders cockpit looks a bit different
Jeez, I didn't know this film had so much computer graphics.
You'd be surprised how much cgi is in a lot of things, even TV shows. It used to be just for things you couldn't make in reality, like dinosaurs or robots, but now it's often used in place of building sets and as backgrounds. Even that cockpit at the end was all cgi.
Wow so awesome :) i'm learning how to use blender and one of my projects i want to do is to create a tie fighter and x-wing battle sequence obviously just for my own personal project to gain new skills :) as at the moment i am doing film editing and colour grading using DaVinci Resolve.
Nice video - and AMAZING music!!! at 2:20 it gets completely EPIC! Where can I get a copy of this stuff?
Space Sentinels from Audio Network. First track starting at 1:27
@@IzanRamos Huge thanks man!
@@jcarm185 I'm obsessed with that music too
@@IzanRamos It is definitely worthy of Obsession!
Solo should have been the start of a new trilogy with new characters instead of a Solo story, but Rogue One was a perfect standalone anthology movie.
Rogue One is for nothing like the Sequel Trilogy. It doesn't seems like a Disney movie
That's cuz It wasn't made my Disney
ILMVIsualFx,
That's a lot of individual pieces, good grief...does each piece have a name/#? How can you possibly locate each piece easily and have all parts/pieces readily at any given time?
AWESOME !!
😅👍
2:24 Even Red Leader they make old classic
I wish you would say what the white line crossing the screen means..Thanks for sharing ILMVFX ps I loved Rogue One, its the best of the "non related" star wars films.
Lamo tracking dots after? 1:45
SINCE THEN, IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO EXPECT SOMETHING BETTER MORE WHEN IT IS PERFORMED BY
ILMVisualFX
CONGRATULATIONS
SORRY
STRIKING
Who the hell would build a data center on a tropical beach ? The salinity of the sea breeze would destroy any electronics quickly !
Say what you want about the amount of CGI in the prequels but without it we probably wouldn't have movies anywhere near as grand as this one was
WOW!
Each shot is so dense....
cool.
que pasada sois los mejores
oh YES
Stay in school kids !
I wonder how dark the original version was
What do you mean by that? Before Disney interference? Well for one thing the original script had Cassian and Jun survive because it was expected that it wouldn't be allowed to kill off all the main characters, but the higher ups allowed it and the script changed in that regard. And in many others. Star Wars explained did a good video on what we know.
I may be alone in this, but ANH and Rogue One are the two SW films that I really care about. Love Empire, but not like these two.
