- Drum cover medley of Glad All Over & Bits And Pieces by the British pop group The Dave Clark Five.
Glad All Over was a song written by Mike Smith, vocalist and organist of the group. Released n January 1964, it became the British group's first big hit, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart. In April 1964, it reached number 6 on the American U.S. pop singles chart, becoming the first British Invasion hit by an artist other than The Beatles. It was also number one in Ireland, number 3 in Australia and number 2 in Canada. It reached number 4 in the Netherlands and number 16 in Germany.
"Bits and Pieces" is a song by 1960s quintet The Dave Clark Five. The single hit number two in the UK and number four in the US. The song was number two in Australia[ and number one in Canada and Ireland. It reached number four in the Netherlands. In Germany it only reached the 20th place though.
Lead vocals are sung by Mike Smith. He and Dave Clark had written the song together
Drummer on the sessions was the renown Bobby Graham the well recorded session drummer of the London studio scene. Bobby was to London, what Hal Blaine was to Los Angeles. That's right folks, the drummer, who's namesake is the band name, didn't play on the bands hit records.

Thanks for viewing the video.
Oh, a little R&R history chillin. The Beatles had the Top-5 singles on Billboards charts on April 4th, 1964 but the DC5 placed BOTH of these singles in the Top-10 the week of April 25th, 1964. Not to shabby! After 40 years of doing this, I wish i could put just ONE in the Top-10! Don't get me wrong folks I am blessed, I'm just ponting out what the DC5 and the Beatles did back in 1964 is very hard to accomplish and we all should appreciate it a little more! Life...is GOOD! Thanx again Sal.
Dave Clark was a clubber. I'm a clubber! Raw talent and rhythm most people are born with but never take the time to practice or learn more techniques. Dennis Wilson was a clubber also. Dave was a managing genius. Total control of production and royalties. 2016, still Dave Clark Productions!
Thanks for sharing and viewing the cover.
Cool, thanks.
Cool, two in one :)
Fantastic drummer
You are right on about some younger musicians who really prefer the rock (and other) music of our generation. My 2 boys each have bands and it is that music they play. You rock bro !!! Nick
Great!
Wonderful! The DC5 always had a great drum aspect to their hits! Really enjoyed your cover.
Thanks..I didnt see the search engine within your channel but have now ,and found the Rascals stuff which like the rest is spot in ..great..right up my street.I saw the Rascals in the show they did .."Once Upon A Dream".They sounded great and Dino is still awesome on drums.Seeing them was a treat. One if my all time favorite bands without doubt.Anyway I'll be checking out your videos .The only thing you left out in the Rascals stuff ,was Dinos signature sticks
TURN IT UP! OMG TURN IT UP THIS.....is ROCK 'N ROLL! Great job Sal, and I LOVE you pointing out the mistake! Remember chillin' we're human we ALL and make mistakes and THAT is what makes Music & Art BREATHE and gives it the HUMAN Touch! We do both of these songs and also "Cathch Us if You Can" & "Because". The DC5 RULES!
Great job! I like that you don't intrude on the originals but rather enhance them. It must be great to 'sit in' with the DC5!
Awesome Sal .
A true humble drumming genius! Thanks, Sal. Such fun.
I always enjoy you playing!:-)
Very nice ,enjoyed the video.
Good work and dont worry you get there..
Best version on UA-cam IMHO. Thank you!
Thanks, though I have not seen another drum cover here on YT of this tune.
Nice drumming! Great song!! I love D Clark 5. Thanks for sharing :)
Sure, thank you for watching it.
Wow! The DC5 always brought me so much joy! They were a happy little band and I see the joy in your playing Sal!!!
I Listen to this song at least once a day.
Great as always. Sal, I was playing that song back in the 60's. I met DC and Mike Smith in Baltimore at the Old Civic Center
Great job. Bobby Graham would approve. 8-D
Well thank you, I appreciate it. And thanks for checking out the cover.
@@rhythmantic Perfection Sal! Awesome. I wish you lived in my town. I'd beg you to drum for me! :)
@@mirrortime Thanks again!
Very good Job Sal . I used to Love the Dave Clark Five back in the Day , it brings back good Memories .
excellent!
I'm a big fan of Dave's drumming. Simple and beat hell out of em.
rocky mullins - How do you know if your a fan of Dave Clark's drumming? Have you read any of the comments here? It's Bobby Graham you're hearing.
I love this song !! great man !! :)
great band, song picks Sal. Next to the Beatles probably my fav British Inv rock band. Here is a great example of a band whose sound was highly defined by the signature drumming style as well as great vocals. Very nice covers Sal !!
Cool to oen💫💫💫
Oh yea Dave, it was amazing how many songs the Beatles would have in the top10 at one time.
You're welcome. I envy you as I played drums years ago and quite miss it. Anyway, if you want to hear the DC5 live, there are two clips here on YT - 'Circle Star Theatre, '65' and 'London Palladium, '64'. Best heard in 'phones at low volume. Both contain 'B'n'P'. In general, DC does fine on drums (apart from that song ...) You were playing along with legendary session guy Bobby Graham here. Thanks for this highly enjoyable upload. I've listened over and over ...
Freaking Awesome
Hey thanks Reverend Tyler and God bless your ministry, brother.
ReadyEddy..my man! Yea thanks so much for stopping by bro'. As you know, this era in pop music was a magical time and it's a blessing to have lived through it. There are young folks today that I've seen comment who wished they were living at this time, amazing, one reason being is that the music was real as opposed to today's prefab, manufactured stuff. I see you've just uploaded a video, will check it out.
AWESOME, the drums sounds AMAZING 👍
Oh cool, thanks for the feedback on the sound.
pleasure
I love this song. Great drumming :)
Thanks
Spent over 20 years in the music business, and I love virtually all genres when performed well. Sadly I'm complete pants when it comes to playing any musical instruments myself, but there's something almost hypnotic and engrossing in watching a good/relaxed drummer plying his (or her) trade. Excellent video Sal and great drumming. I'm sort of envious of your talent - but in a good way I hasten to add. Peace x
Ah that's sweet! Thank you. So what did you do in the music business?
I'm not sure I could answer that without condensing it into a fairly hefty paperback Sal! making coffee > studio management > owning a few indie music retail outlets > A&R > restructuring retail in the early 80's with tricky-dickie-branson > helping a couple of friends buy Sarm West (as was) in London > back to A&R > poking Martin Price in the ribs to get off his arse with 808 State > etc etc. These days I just tend to chill out and enjoy life by quietly advising musicians who hate the whole 'Syco' approach to music. It's all about contentment these days and I thoroughly recommend it!
The Manx Fella Yes, I see, you've covered a lot of ground just from the brief comment.
I've no idea what Google+ is either, so I'm not sure if the messages here are between you and I or in the public domain? But without going into too much detail (just a country would do), whereabouts are you in the world Sal? I live just outside Manchester in the UK, but spend more and more time these days here on the Isle of Man.
The Manx Fella
I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. My wife and I love England, spent time in Liverpool and London and want to return many more times. You're from the area that Herman's Hermits are from and now live where Jimi Hendrix played his last concert.
Did you ever think about covering any Rascals stuff?Dino Danelli is a great drummer and did some really good things with them.Really good pop siongs.Anyway your drumming is fantastic .Thanks!
Cool.
I like how you put that, thanks a lot. Yes, it's great sitting in with these bands that I grew up with. Thanks for watching.
Such a fantastic song! Love this video :) Great drumming!
Thank you so much my drumming friend. It was a bit quirky playing this groove, and I wasn't completely comfortable with it. Could have use more practice, I suppose. Thanks again.
Thanks my fellow drummer.
Thanks!
Could you imagine CCR with Dave Clark as manager? Ask for 3 times more than anyone, including The Beatles. He got it. Ask for copyrights back after 3 years. He got it. Till this day you don't hear it, use it or buy it without his permission. Worth $40 million and hasn't broke a sweat since 1972. Drummer? Did what was needed. Manager? Genius
Rocky Mullins
Dave didn’t play on the DC5 recordings. Bobby Graham, the London session drummer, was on those sessions as well as on the Kinks recordings, to name a few bands/artists.
I’ve never seen a video of the band playing live. I’ve seen them miming to the recordings.
You make it look so easy! love their songs! I do play a mean "air drums" on a few select tunes and these were some of them...great job!
Thanks! Like anything, it is easy once you learn how and have been doing it for 56 years.
Just subbed and this was what I was looking for, although I did view several others before getting to this. DC made sure the drums were prominent on many songs. He was a better business man and producer than drummer, but still ok. I'm enjoying your videos. I can't even play the radio.
Thank you for viewing my cover video.
DC didn’t drum on the DC5 recordings. Please refer to the above Description as to who was the drummer on recording sessions.
@@rhythmantic oh yeah, it isn't unusual for session musicians to at least help make the recordings, as you well know. But Dave Clark was a competent drummer. They toured a lot and were a great band to see live. Why they didn't perform more live on TV I don't know, it seems that they could have, probably should have. My point was the Dave often had the drums being prominent, even out front sometimes. At any rate I loved their music and your drum covers. Thanks!
@@rubytuesday9539 Yes, I dug their music. It's curious that I cannot find any videos of any live performance of theirs.
I think this is a live recording of them.

Thank you. Wow Bill, that's a memory, I take it DC was playing drums live? On this recording he isn't. Thanks for checking it out.
Thank you Craig, appreciate you stopping by.
Thank you
very well done. Despite what some people believe, Dave Clark was a fair drummer. I'm friends with Ron Ryan and said so and he should know!!!!
Well Dave would have had to be a “fair “ drummer to mime Bobby Graham’s drum parts on the recordings whenever the band appeared on a TV show or a video. I’ve never seen a video of DC5 playing live.
Thank you for viewing this cover.
@@rhythmantic There was a video on youtube of the DC5 doing a command performance for the royal family and they were playing 19 days and I think it was live. There first performance on Ed Sullivan didn't sound like the record but I learned from Lenny Davidson that they had gone into a recording studio in New York and recorded a backing track. The vocals were live.
Thanks.
Sure have and did!, about 4 Rascals numbers. Yes, Dino, he was an influence on my drumming and I got to meet him and the other Rascals back in the 60s. Did you know there is a Search engine on my channel page? Thanks for your encouraging comments and for checking out the covers.
Thanks for checking it recordguy.
Sal is a great drummer. I am ashamed to say i just discovered the Dave Clark 5 as a Beatles Fan. Sal captures the DC essence perfectly, and with confidence. I had no idea that the DC5 wrote their own songs, and had toppled the Beatles in Britain, if only briefly. DC was what Rory Storm could have been if he had written his own songs.
Thank you Johanna, for the kind and encouraging comments.
I don't know Dave, I've never seen the band live, nor have I ever heard a live recording or seen a video of them playing "live". They did tour so Dave C had to play the drums, unless they had an automatron from Disney that looked like Dave and played the drums. :D
Yea, thanks my friend.
I do that most of the time when there is a space in the music, check out my other covers.
The Circle Star theater in San Carlos CA? If so, I live just down the road from where that was. Yes, I know about Bobby G, I listed that info in the video's description. Bobby played on most hits out of the UK including the Kinks.
Thank you :D
love it ! thank you!!!!!!!!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Sure, thanks for checking it out.
Ive read that Dave Clark did play Drums on the early records but were doubled by Bobby Graham. Makes sense because in the earlier songs the drums sounded doubled
Interesting!
Yo Sal: Thanx for letting us know that Dave Clark did not play on these records but did he play LIVE? He looks like he knows what he's doing on the T.V. clips though the band is "Lip Syncing" to the record
2:45 I thought it was over!
Sorry! I didn't read the description. Yes, Bobby Graham was very active - a real 'hired gun' (apparently, he even did orchestral sessions despite not being a reader) and yes the theatre was indeed the one in San Carlos. Small world! Can I correct you on one thing? I know you're quoting official credits info but Ron Ryan wrote 'BnP' as well as other classics like 'Because' and the fabulous 'Any way you want it'. Thanks again!
Sal is it true Bobby Graham played on the early DC5 records? ...Super job by the way
That should read ..Dinos signature Stick Twirling
Sal, great job, and I am learning quite a bit from watching you play. Was wondering if you could add a Dave Clark 5 song titled "Because" to your list of covers? I know you must receive a lot of requests but this is my first try at this. Much appreciated if you can do it. Thanks Rick C
Cool, thank you for checking out my covers.
Great mate!!! Any neighbours left? ;)
Klaus Schulz
Thanks.
The neighbors only hear the sound of sticks hitting mesh heads & rubber cymbals. One of the advantages of playing edrums.
Music before was better than today, and by the way good drumming ^∇^)
Yep, you know it. Thanks for watching.
Hi Sal. I am an intermediate level drummer and I follow your covers often and have learned a lot from you. I need some advice please-. I have to do a collaboration with a women’s drumming group for fun and want to do for my part Glad all over and Bits and Pieces. They were my first two songs as a middle schooler that I would bang out on the school lunch table. But.. I can’t find a non-copyrighted version that won’t get me kicked off UA-cam. The only version I can find is horrendous-it is a karaoke drumless track. Any suggestions Where I can find one with the same quality as yours that will pass UA-cam? Thank you for any help on this. And thanks for your videos. Kathy S.
Hi Kathy, well these song files I'm playing to in this video haven't been blocked so just go on YT and download the two DC5 tunes like I did for this video and use them. Thanks for viewing this video.
Is this the drumming equivalent of lip-sync or were you actually playing? If the latter, really good job. If the former, an even better amazing job in that you got every beat exactly right.
It’s me drumming. I also match up tuning of my kit with the one on the recording.
Thank you for viewing the video.
I need this guy....where is he? Is he session player? Who does he play for?
Yes, I’m a session player for hire- please inquire within.
Hey Zorro give my regards to Sgt Garcia.
Wicked pissa.
Compiti. with Adam and rat Trix drummer. Hi j.j. friend. Thx.
A. EA.
Are you a palace fan?
Sorry I don't know what "palace" is but I thank you for checking out this video.
rhythmantic - Sal D'Amato Crystal Palace are English soccer team and there song when they walk out is glad all over and I’m a Tottenham Hotspur fan where Dave Clark five originate from
Andrew Bloomfield
Ah, thank you for explaining.
haha nice cover lord but your neighbor not say than you do much sound ?
Frank DC5
Thank you for viewing but I have no idea what your comment means.
These drum parts were played by the Wrecking Crew, NOT Dave Clark, just to set the record straight.
The Wrecking Crew were session musicians in Los Angeles, not London. The drummer on this track and others that came out of London was Bobby Graham.
Not much good, is he?
