First you said that you would never leave me Merry were my days Then you told me life is never easy And left without a trace But how come I want you Like the soil yearns for the rain Won't you light up, won't you light up my life Let my soul breathe Tell me wrong tell me right You're my mind cage Like a mountain far away You were always there Dressed in summer white You will never know how much I miss you I'm open to my fear Find the maze, I'll make my way through Enter if you dare How, how come I want you Like the soil yearns for the rain Won't you light up, won't you light up my life Let my soul breathe Tell me wrong tell me right You're my mind cage Like a mountain far away You were always there Dressed in summer white Remember my name And paint the darkness with your light We'll sing you a song for all broken hearted Like edenechos in my head Then you're forgiven, gave you way Won't you light up, won't you light up my life Let my soul breathe Tell me wrong tell me right You're my mind cage Like a mountain far away You were always there Dressed in summer white
I once made a tribute video to Khan with this song after it was announced he had had a burnout before he quitted. Now watching this video made me very sad because these lyrics describe exactly what I still feel today towards Roy. I miss him and his voice so goddamn much.....
Look at that, every comment just get's likes. We really are a true community, when it comes to the band, are we? I love that. While I'm listening to this masterpiece, I also feel good about what I see here.. I feel welcome, accepted, while before I was sad, when I heard Roys voice. Thank you, Kamelot fans :) I do want to live on this planet!
How after ten years does this comment only have 4 likes? Music is a collaboration not a competition. Every aspect should be represented respected and redone as many times aa possible within the realm of respectful tribute/original take or rendition on a classic.
Khan's lyrics always hinted at his search for God (even back in the Conception days), but this song was the first time he basically came right out and said, "Look guys, I need God and I feel trapped right now." This song almost seems to imply that he once believed, walked away but then realized that God never left and that he needs Him far more than he once realized. I've loved Kamelot since I was an early teen (back in The Black Halo days, right before Ghost Opera), but I never really realized Khan became a Christian after leaving the band. Being a Christian myself, my respect for the guy went from the sky and into space the moment I heard about that haha.
@@hjge1012 Where on earth is any of that far-fetched? Roy is Christian. He became one right around the time he left Kamelot. Going back, you'll notice that a LOT of his lyrics, even as far back as his original work with Conception (and especially the new stuff), point toward a search for God. This is the most open song wherein he comes out and all but says it. Just because he doesn't outright say the Name of God, that doesn't mean that's not whom he is talking to in this song.
@@jakobfel2 True, the respect I had on him increased as well. Many songs he sung is about his relationship with God, sin, afterlife. In 2003 Roy was strong in his faith. From 2005 -2010 he had troubled times. Lost and damned (2003)- "Love means nothing to me If there is a higher place to be" "Helena don't you cry" "Nothing can take my faith away In my quest for the sun" Farewell (2003)- "No one holds the only truth in his hands So who am I To defy even God in quest for a reason There's no time to waste I'm afraid I must take your farewell Carried by destiny Bound to obey" Soul Society (2005)- "How can we believe in heaven Human reason counters all Ideas of a soul society" Abandoned (2006) "Why, oh why my God Have you abandoned me" Eden echo(2007) seem like a song sung about the fall and how he misses the Eden garden and wants to go back. "First you said that you would never leave me Merry were my days Then you told me life is never easy And left without a trace" "You will never know how much I miss you Or open to my fear Find a maze I make my way through And enter if you dare How come I want you Like the soil yearns for the rain" The Great Pandamonium (2010) "On a silent shore I confronted fear I spoke to God but he wasn't there" In Roy Khan’s departure statement, approximately 7 months after leaving the band in the April of 2011, he said, “The good news is, God was there after all.”
@@Brianrobertj Yeah, it's amazing because Roy said he never really sang about his faith but I wonder if he even realizes what he was writing back then: perhaps it was so intertwined with who he is as a person that he didn't realize he was actually writing about faith?
@MrBagpuss2242 I don't know mate,But I had such great ambition for this album when it was about to come out and it dissapointed me! Karma,Epica,Black Halo,Ghost Opera such great albums!Good times!Roy was in the band too!
@MrBagpuss2242 Yeah, i bought it anyway because i love Kamelot, but personally. I think Ghost Opera is on par with their best albums like Epica and The Black Halo
@lioubinos99 Yeah I agree with you. Poetry for the posoned was disappointing and didn't come close to Ghost Opera. maybe the problems that eventually saw Roy leaving, manifested in the album.
First you said that you would never leave me
Merry were my days
Then you told me life is never easy
And left without a trace
But how come I want you
Like the soil yearns for the rain
Won't you light up, won't you light up my life
Let my soul breathe
Tell me wrong tell me right
You're my mind cage
Like a mountain far away
You were always there
Dressed in summer white
You will never know how much I miss you
I'm open to my fear
Find the maze, I'll make my way through
Enter if you dare
How, how come I want you
Like the soil yearns for the rain
Won't you light up, won't you light up my life
Let my soul breathe
Tell me wrong tell me right
You're my mind cage
Like a mountain far away
You were always there
Dressed in summer white
Remember my name
And paint the darkness with your light
We'll sing you a song for all broken hearted
Like edenechos in my head
Then you're forgiven, gave you way
Won't you light up, won't you light up my life
Let my soul breathe
Tell me wrong tell me right
You're my mind cage
Like a mountain far away
You were always there
Dressed in summer white

Same here.. I think about him everyday and everytime I listen to those songs.
God tier song from a God tier band.
This song is beautiful!
One of my favorites by Kamelot!
The chorus and the part from 2:20 to 2:57 are epic!
It's always good to remember songs you used to listen a long time ago.

I'm sorry, but that must be the most far fetched drivel I've read in a long long while...

I always thought the song was about a significant other. I guess I just "Preferred" it that way. Although I can see both ways now.
