Resetting the cartridge from the printer menu:
Resetting the cartridge from the printer menu requires no disassembly and it even works with starter cartridges.
You can avoid to install a reset gear on a starter cartridge.
Note that on the recently released starter Brother toner cartridge, the new drive shaft configuration prevents users from installing a reset gear at all.
- Open the front cover of the printer.
- With the front cover open, simultaneously press “SECURE” and “CANCEL” buttons.
- The reset menu with the list of the cartridges appear on the display.
- Using up or down arrow buttons, select the cartridge you want to reset.
- Press + button to reset the cartridge
- The display will show, "ACCEPTED".
- Close the cover
- The counter is reset.

Bought in 2013, my 3140cw is still on the starter cartridges (half filled) - to buy this panzertank for about 130 Euros was a really good decision - I will never buy inkjet again....

I have same printer. I replaced all colors and all were OK but yesterday Magenta tóner was very low and printer showed Replace tóner but tóner is new and was working well before and I use a Little my printer. Making reset can I fix it?
