    Its taken many years for our Peters Honey fig tree to produce awesome fruit, its Oct 10th!
    We're in Gresham Oregon and thrilled! Thank you for the video

      Hi Janae! Oh, that's so good to hear. It continues to produce fruit, but they're still not maturing, so it's encouraging to hear we just need to be patient...now for the waiting part! Oh and we have family in Oregon. A few in Grants Pass and one not far from you who lives in downtown Portland. What a beautiful place to call home!

    Hey! How about a full tour of your compound there? I feel like I have no idea of the scope of your property and I'm interested in seeing how you are setting up your property now and for future growth. Some day when my wife is out of the military I want to do something like what you guys are doing, so I'm trying to see what others are doing on a large scale. Thanks!

      Hey Lucrative. Funny you should ask, we've just started looking at possibly getting a drone to show a grand overview of the property. I'll try to see if we can get maybe a fall walk-through up once we get back into our chicken production. When you guys get a chance to move onto some property maybe you can reach out to us on FB and we can look at your property and maybe give you some ideas?? I can tell you, the key is water/irrigation. Fruit trees take a TON of water to grow and produce well.

    Water that fig tree more.I had the same issue here in Texas and i started watering more and I was able to get those figs to rippen.

      Hey Hadi Hadi. How much are you putting on your trees this time of year? We're at just over 100 gallons/week on each of our fruit trees which seems to be enough, but we can always spot water the fig trees to give them a boost.

    How is your Peters Honey doing at the new property?
    I hear they struggle in temps above 100F but love heat (less than 100F though) for ripening quality figs.
    I just got one on in the mail from One Green World.

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  3 роки тому +1

      That's a great question. Our new tree is growing just fine and keeping up with the other varieties well. I wouldn't be able to say for sure on the fruit quality, but there may be something to the concern over the high heat as we have yet to get a quality fruit from it. That being said, we haven't had fruit from a mature tree yet either and we're seeing the same issue with the Kadota (strong growth with non-ripening fruit). So, I suppose we'll have to see how it does over time. Fingers crossed for us both!

      Yes! Best of luck! At some point your tree will mature and be able to ripen something.
      Perhaps the fruiting branches and roots need to find their balance before the fruit will stay and ripen.

      Also, I figured out that adding 3” to 4” of grass clippings cooled down the soil temps dramatically in my potted plants. I bet it will work great for when they go in ground as well.
      Not to forget all the worms it attracts. Which brings in aeration, better soil microbes, better drainage, and mineralized fertilizer.

      The trees grow really well, but we get very few fully ripened fruit. It sets fruit just fine, but rarely ripens them completely.

      @@ImRaHorakhty I'll be interested to hear how this tree does for you. From what I've read and heard your extra humidity may make the difference in ripening. They do better with higher humidity and ours is about as low as it gets!

    I have a Pete’s honey fig tree. Almost 3 years young. In The summer the figs tasted great and were juicy, I have another crop now but the figs are very dry. Even though I have a good irrigation system. What is happening to this tree

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  3 роки тому +1

      That's a great question Rosa and we haven't figured that one out with this variety either. I have been told they need some humidity to put on good figs, so that may be a challenge for us here in AZ. This tree along with our Kadota figs tend to do the same thing.

      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  8 місяців тому

      @@drea4195 the only time we've had ripe figs has been when we get excess moisture from storms that roll through, so I'm thinking it's the lack of humidity.

    New to your channel. I am in the north Phoenix area and bought the same fig tree and size as you back in Feb. Is there anything I should feed it or do you have a video on that for figs? Enjoying your channel so far. Thanks.

      Hey LilCaz. We do have a video on what we're currently using for fertilizer (composted pig manure from our pigs), but you can also use bio flora crumbles that you can get from Summer Winds nursery (we used to shop at the one on Tatum between Bell and Union Hills when we lived in N. Phx). It works great. Just wait until September to get the fertilizer on it to spur growth in the fall before they go dormant. Hope this helps and glad you found us!

      Great question and we're not really sure! We sold our old property in April, so we were not there for the harvest this year. We have one planted on the new property and it has grown well this year with fruit on it, but nothing has ripened quite yet.
