I bought a 99 Corolla for $1,500.00. Someone hit it in an icy parking lot damaging every single panel and the insurance company totaled it giving me $4,000.00. Best investment I ever made.
Spenser B someone needs to hit my Camry so I can get 10,000$. I don’t want that to happen but I know I will probably twice as much for what it’s worth if the car were to ever get totaled. I want a newer Camry I have a 2010 LE with 180,000 miles and could use a new one. My current one is in good shape and everything but it’s a little old need something newer.
Toyota Corolla... That one car where you're thinking "Meh, I'll drive it until I get enough for a better car." But then you see it 30 years later, still running, and you're thinking, "Oh Johnny is gonna love this."
When I was 18 I borrowed my friends Corolla to take my girlfriend to Steak N Shake on Christmas Eve to visit my friend, the cook. At the time I didnt have a license and my friends dad found out about it, got pissed and then made me bring the car back about 30 minutes into our "date" I then got a hand job on the way home. Hell no. My first car was a 97 Pontiac Bonneville out of high school and it was shit. I had it for 4 years and every year there was at least one major breakdown which left me stranded on the road. The first breakdown was with the upper intake gasket which flooded the engine with coolant. I sold that piece of shit then bought a 99 Corolla. It has 200,000 miles and has performed flawlessly. The only "major" repairs i've had to do is change the valve cover gasket and wheel bearing. Now I am retiring it because I am going to get a Tacoma pretty soon. I will never get anything that isn't Toyota ever again. They just work.

Every girlfriend I had in high school had a Corolla like this... I remember seeing my first live titty in the front seat of one and then throwing up because of nervousness... That’s my Corolla story.
I remember buying a half ounce of weed every week in my old dealers 99 corolla when I was still in high school. The distinct ticking of a thoroughly neglected engine could be heard a few blocks away, and that was the sound of pure dank kush arriving after a hard day of doing oil changes at a lube shop. Hearing that sound would always put a smile on my face, as I turned towards it seeing large clouds of smoke pouring out of the windows of that piece of shit barreling down the street going 30 over the limit. He would slam on his brakes the car literally screeching to a halt, and I would get in the back seat as most of the time his buddy 'Chet' would be ripping a fat bong rip in the passenger seat I'd hand him the money and he'd hand me a bag that I worked oh so hard for the mutual trust between our stoned asses was unheard of as most other dealers were scummy bastards that would rob you the first chance they got. I'd be lying if I said I remember those times fondly, because I really don't remember much of it as I was high nearly 24/7 looking back I see how wildly impulsive, and irresponsible my life was at that time, and it really makes me think about the current state of my life, and how things could have been much worse... All these memories, and self reflection over watching a video review on a fucking corolla.
Just passed my 01 on to my sister for her first car, and I’m happy to know as long as she puts a litre of oil in with every fuel fill, it’ll run til the wheels rust off
+Evan93 But, every Toyota car at the lowest end are the hardest one to break, because they don't have anything that can break easily. Like hiliux for example. Anything that are at higher class than that will break.

Own a 99 Corolla with 290k. I've been waiting for years to buy a new commuter car but this thing keeps going & going with just minimal maintenance. Once the wheels fall off I'm buying a band new 4runner with all the money I've saved. I already own my own home. Thanks 1999 Corolla!
I've had my 2000 for 6 years. She has 225k and burns little to no oil. She has had zero engine or transmission problems too. :) I will only ever buy Toyota in the future.
haha yea, my 98 has broken all 4 door handles inside & outside. Good thing they are somewhat easy to replace, I did all 8 on my own just by watching some videos.
Both my 93's rear doors cant be opened from the inside or outside so whenever we carpool in it, rear passengers just enter from the front ala coupé, i never get it fixed because why?😁
my identity never was tied to what car i drive (Tacoma). i know posers that need flashy cars with big payments. i'm not a car guy. just give me something that stays out of repair shops. that seems to be Toyota.
That's why we keep moving forward. Love my 99 Tacoma. Just waiting for the Delorean to show up. My favorite movie is back to the Future. Marty had a 85 Tacoma, I have a 99 Tacoma. WHERE THE HECK IS MY TIME MACHINE 😁
8th gen Corollas are THE cariest cars. It's literally an A to B machine and nothing else. Look up "car" in the dictionary and next to the definition, you'll see a picture of a fucking 8th gen Corolla.
People took for granted when they receive this kind of car when they're young. I did too, but how I miss this car. Care free, cheap to run, own, fix. Yes the car is boring, but I know this car will get me from point A to point b no matter how long the trips is, and in a comfortable manner. I can't do that with newer car I currently own. A small chicken shit would trigger my OCD. Not with this car. Need a alignment? I'll do it when I feel like it. I dint something? Tis but a scratch. Until I let it go I realize I lost my most dependable tool. Same feel when Mr.Regular lost his Echo.
+chunky soup You just described my relationship with my cavalier. Damn that thing was so reliable. Many Michigan winter blizzards were roughed with the FWD just to make it to some random high school party. memory lane lmao
I felt bad about selling the _Family Heirloom_ 84 Caprice to the towing business after it hit a telephone pole. Never be a jerk like that oncoming driver was, _please._ Argh. Dad didn't just hit a pole, the car went down an embankment. (He's fine overall, BTW; just seat belt rash and aches.)
this pretty much is the car I grew up with, same color same year. these car can be fun if you toss it right. it's greatest car for someone just to have.
These Corollas were nice which is why it's so strange to me that the Camry of similar vintage could be such a complicated beast. Lots of hidden things in the I4's engine bay, if we also conveniently ignore that the 5S-FE grenades after about 180,000 miles if you don't switch to FULL SYNTHETIC OIL at 105,000 miles.
Love the video except for the reliability. They are 100% bulletproof and I know this from experience. Sure every car has its faults but the Corolla just doesn't have as many as most other cars.
+Travis Judd My 1998 Corolla LE Manual has 225,000 miles on it and has NEVER had a major problem with it. It just keeps on going. It's no looker but it's reliable as hell lol and for that reason alone I love it. Oh and it's a stick shift.......nuff said lol.
Hell, I don't even have a Corolla, and I have memories. I saw a dude with a pocket-pipe trying to light a bowl of weed while driving 75 on the freeway in one of these babies - Not sure if he had too much already, or not enough, but the driver-side window was rolled down and blowing the flame of the lighter out and he didn't realise that was the issue. I was laughing so hard I could barely see thru the tears! Impressive fore-arm strength tho.
Lmao I would bring weed and pipe and hit it on road/freeway all the time on my Toyota FJ. Good times. I even went through high water(water touching hood) during a hurricane to pick up some weed lmao. I still have old snapchats of it. Got behind on payments 3 years later after losing my job. The bank took my baby :( but lots of memories.
Yeah that actually may have been my father and that is not a joke or a lie in any way. He had a 98 he got from a old lady down the street. It was basically perfect besides paint peel. Then someone SMASHED it all to hell one day when he was working at someone’s house. Moved the car almost 600 feet down the road with the back left of the car completly pancaked. The dude drove off and my dad only had liability insurance, and basically no money at that time for a new car. He did what he could to fix the body, which was honestly a lot. Made himself a tail light and got it to pass inspection. Then I got it for cheap having gotten it running after replacing ignition coils, now it’s in my good friends hands until he gets back on his feet. It’s really like a hard times helper more than a car. It still runs no problem besides being very very ugly. 200k and counting!
My Corolla is my favorite car I’ve driven so far. When driving it got a little boring i through on a full straight pipe and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. You can floor it for 10 seconds making a shit ton of noise without even breaking the speed limit.
When God created the world he was worried three things might outlast him: 1.) Coronavirus 2.) Human stupidity 3.) The 1999 Toyota Corolla Edit: I am selling my 99' Automatic corolla with 220k miles in Portland, OR for 1500 HMU in comments. (December, 2020)
My first car was a 93 Corolla. Hand me down from grandpa. My second car was a 14 Corolla S. Loved it to death. Now I drive a Civic SI. I still miss my Corollas. The power of familiarity.

my bro and I laughed especially hard at the chinese buffet line. because we had just gotten back home in his 2000 corolla, we ate at a local chinese buffet and we, ofcourse, had pizza.
Oh look, a comment from past me. It's 6 years later and I just bought a 1999 Corolla CE because I needed a car to drive and not break. I figure it'll hold me over until I can get something I like, but deep down I know I'll probably still be driving it ten years from now. It's the same colour as the one in the video and the dash storage cubby door is broken in the same way.
During my oil change days at the shop, we saw these in better running condition with 200,000+ miles than cars that weren't even 3 years old. Had a 98 corolla on one lift and a 2018 Jeep Wrangler on the lift next to it. The corolla was leaking but running strong. The Jeep was leaking, and quite literally falling apart because thats what happens when you make an engine out of plastic.
The Toyota corolla is an incredible first car or basically just a forever lasting car in general. It doesn't even matter what model year you get the corolla will not fail you

Today is November 2023. I still drive my 1998 Corolla. It has 237,000 miles on it. Chain-driven camshafts with no bs variable valve timing, it has port-injection, distributorless ignition, tuned aluminum intake manifold from the factory, Aisin 5-speed manual transmission, NO abs or traction control, independent rear suspension, the headliner fabric fell off long ago. Put some ruthenium spark plugs in it, NGK plug wires, change the oil with mobil1 synthetic every 3,000 miles it's still beautiful. Oh, and mechanical door locks and crank windows, too. Put in a pioneer radio with RDS so you can see the name of the song that's playing on 98rock Baltimore WIYY and enjoy the rest of your life.
The one in the family is creaking up on 180,000 miles now. Still no major engine work out side of regular maintenance, just had to replace part of the exhaust system, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has another 80k in it.

The beginning of this video is practically word-for-word the conversation my sister and I had when she asked what car she should get, minus the other car recommendations.
I got the 98 corolla LE in 2001 with 32k miles on it as my first car senior year in highschool. What an amazing car. The car was a tank in terms of taking abuse from a high schooler. The car is still running right now as it was sold to someone in my town. The only thing that went wrong with the car was it started rusting after about 15 years.
I want him to talk about the Siennas but they’re basically just big Corollas lol. Bought my ‘05 for $1000 in 2020, still driving it 50 miles a day in 2024, now 324,000 miles on it, only done the bare minimum maintenance. Haven’t ever had a car this reliable, I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off
if you take into account the amount of corollas sold, and then how ppl in US treat japanese brands way worse than other brands, and consider that most of the problems are really not a big deal, yeah, corollas are pretty much bulletproof by today standars, heck, my grandpa drove without oil for some kms in his corolla and it didnt even break
I've got a 99 VE automatic 1.8l with 356k kms on it, drove 200kms doing 140kmph on the highway, noticed the engine knocking slightly when i was nearly back home, checked oil even though i just dumped almost 2 litres in not even a month before knowing it burns a lot. Not a single drop of oil on the stick on level ground or angled to front or back. literally couldn't find any oil with it parked on the road flat, backed it nose down or front in nose up. It took another 3 litres, got some full synthetic high mileage to help clean it up a bit and stop burning but knocking went away and everything is fine. it has had 2 oil changes since 250k... I just keep pouring more in.... thing is invincible. I'm always revving to max rpms and slamming it into first until i'm bumping off rev limit again and stupid shit like that all the time, including on the highway that day. If it was anything but a toyota the engine would have fucking welded itself into a block of metal.
Amen man. These things are bullet proof. Screw anyone that says otherwise. My 2000 is at 210k and still has no oil burning issues. One day I am gonna get a manual Corolla just to beat on and have fun like you do haha.
Evan93 Funny thing is that mines an automatic... I just pretend its a standard. I'm actually just putting it in neutral then slamming it into "L" which is 1st gear... hahahaha. I don't know how the tranny hasn't blown up. My oil issue has gotten so much worse, I'm putting in a gallon (4.4 Litres) for every tank of gas these days but it was a lot worse, I've got some nasty videos of oil POURING out of my exhaust while revving in park (Yes i've confirmed it's oil). Guess that's why my catalytic converter was fucked, so I just gutted it out entirely and replaced the valve cover gasket. Very little oil makes it through my exhaust now but it still goes through a big jug of oil every other gas fillup. I don't mind though, car is fun as fuck and now I'm just a spark plug in the exhaust away from shooting flames in my COROLLA... you should hear this thing pop gas in the tailpipe! Gas mileage got even better from gutting out the cat as well.
Ya know, I've been thinking about doing this for a while because of how big a joke my car has been with my friends and I. I've got videos of revving the shit out of it while oil spraying and gas BAP BAP BAPPing out of the exhaust (with slow mo!), from gutting out the catalytic converter, from jumping it over some NASTY train tracks, even losing half a tank of gas in about 10 kilometers over 15 minutes and discovering it's my fuel injectors pouring fuel all over my engine and battery and alternator..... and then replacing the o rings only 5 minutes before i start work and making it only 3 minutes late... and much more, all documented! Think you have inspired me to do so. I will update you should I find the time and effort!
I own a 1998 "Chevy" Prizm, 253K and counting, 1.8L manual shift. Meticulous maintenance. Car is no slouch even to this day, gets zero respect and will embarrass half the cars on the road that think they are quick. Best car I have ever owned-no contest. A/C still blows cold too. Corolla's are the epitome of mass production assembly line masterpieces.
My Corolla story. I own a virtually identical 99 Corolla as the one in the review, except this one has more interior bits than my car came with. I bought it for 500 back in 2020 and as I found out it needed A LOT of work. Head gasket failure, o2 upstream failure, clogged catalytic converter, the aforementioned parking light issue, warped rotors up front, missing sway bar links, busted shocks, burnt out window motors up front. If it had been any other time I would of junked it but the DMV was booked for 6 months because of COVID so it was either eat the repair cost or sell the car, buy something else and just HOPE I don't get pulled over. Drove it for two months with the head gasket issue (Kids don't do this, but if you do just keep the 5qt jug in the backseat). So I repaired what I could afford and just sent it, learned how to wrench and as it turned out, this car is a fighter. I accidentally ran this car for 50miles on the highway with a quart of oil in the 1ZZ (I noticed the engine was chattier than usual), top 'er off and kept going, that was a year ago. The car currently sits at 284,540miles as of this comment and I have had no issues from it save for a loose battery terminal that gave me a heart attack once. Body is in good condition, paint is sunbaked because it was an El Paso car for 3/4th of it's life but outside of a cracked bumper it's great. Coming from MI you either buy domestic or you're looked at weird but the Corolla is a car everyone says "That's a good car." And as an owner the legend is true, I want to fully restore the car because it's been good to me. The headliner is falling apart because the car is almost as old as me and all my lower dash pieces were missing but all in all, amazing car, amazing in the sense of it works, all the time, every time. Even after a week of sitting the MI winter cold, it started. It will always be my go to recommendation and I don't plan on letting it go. Good job Toyota, you've kept me employed because of this car.
My 1997 GEO Prizm is a Toyota Corolla. I brought it new with 7 miles on it. 11 years later with over 300,000 miles on it, i traded it for a 2008 Honda Fit Sport jazz. My personal opinion Toyota and Honda make the best reliable cars on earth.

***** Cars for mortals, as the channel description goes.
You can hear the affection in Mr. Car's voice. It's no crush; this is love.
My friend paid 700 bucks for an 2001 corolla with 330k miles and it runs great lol
Loaded Hard Drive ikr. My Dad just sold his 1990 Corolla with 200k on it for 1.2k. It was still in great shape.
I bought a 1997 Corolla with 150k for $700 myself. But I had to replace the water pump and timing belt, thing is now running like champ. Still drove it for a while with a busted water pump though...lol
gm92845 my mom had a 97, she sold it in 2014 with well over 250k miles on it, we never had major issues with it.
I'm looking at a 99 Corolla tomorrow actually...hope things go well. I'm still upset my LeSabre got moosed but I've always wanted a random japanese shitbox sedan with a stick and a 4-banger.
Loaded Hard Drive lol i pass by a dealer and they have a corrola 96 for $495 and a 1990 toyota Corolla for $965 and another one for $780 1999.

80% of 8th generation Corollas are still on the road today. Quality speaks for itself
I've had my 2000 for 6 years. She has 225k and burns little to no oil. She has had zero engine or transmission problems too. :) I will only ever buy Toyota in the future.

They just have oil burning problems
Yup. Thats what I always think about when buying an used car.
There is no make and model in the World has sold more cars then a Corolla!

These cars HAVE NOTORIOUSLY BRITTLE DOOR HANDLES. IVE GONE THROUGH 4 SETS OF INSIDE AND OUTSIDE.
My grandpa has a '95 corolla and most of his handles inside are broken
haha yea, my 98 has broken all 4 door handles inside & outside. Good thing they are somewhat easy to replace, I did all 8 on my own just by watching some videos.
Both my 93's rear doors cant be opened from the inside or outside so whenever we carpool in it, rear passengers just enter from the front ala coupé, i never get it fixed because why?😁

8th gen Corollas are THE cariest cars. It's literally an A to B machine and nothing else. Look up "car" in the dictionary and next to the definition, you'll see a picture of a fucking 8th gen Corolla.
This is probably the car most people think of when the word “car” is uttered.
That kinda depressing XD
The Sentra is one of the few cars that can make the Corolla look like a chick magnet in comparison. Particularly the older models.

Bought mine brand new, and twenty three years later it runs like a gem. Even the cassette deck still works!. Great car, never regretted my purchase.

It's so strange the feelings that this guy makes me feel when describing things seemingly unrelated to a car

Love the video except for the reliability. They are 100% bulletproof and I know this from experience. Sure every car has its faults but the Corolla just doesn't have as many as most other cars.

Fflawed omg I just cried tears reading this 🤣 I can picture that so perfectly I love it
Lmao I would bring weed and pipe and hit it on road/freeway all the time on my Toyota FJ. Good times. I even went through high water(water touching hood) during a hurricane to pick up some weed lmao. I still have old snapchats of it. Got behind on payments 3 years later after losing my job. The bank took my baby :( but lots of memories.
Did that in a 92 two door Sentra, passenger window failed open so. And my knee driving game is on point.
Look that Corolla's face, so innocent, much simple, such straight
Hyper Vanilo Oh god
My Corolla is my favorite car I’ve driven so far. When driving it got a little boring i through on a full straight pipe and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. You can floor it for 10 seconds making a shit ton of noise without even breaking the speed limit.

if you take into account the amount of corollas sold, and then how ppl in US treat japanese brands way worse than other brands, and consider that most of the problems are really not a big deal, yeah, corollas are pretty much bulletproof by today standars, heck, my grandpa drove without oil for some kms in his corolla and it didnt even break
+Marshal Beard Hahaha oh man you need to post some videos of it for me! She sounds like a tank.

It is in excellent condition. Does have some rust on the bottom. It is literally a time capsule. They want $8k… is it worth it do you think?

I had an 87 corella hatchback stick shift during my year in Australia in 05'. It was great. Got it for 800$ from an other American who forgot to sell it in time for her plane lol I bought it with US dollars in AU and she never had to convert it because it was bought 2hr before her plane left.
I keep re-watching these corolla reviews to remedy the my boredom with my Corolla. These videos and the sexy toyota pragmatic aesthetic keep me from selling it irresponsibly.
Toyota Corolla, official car of "this is my first time so take it easy, ok."
Rated the MOST RELIABLE car on the road by Consumer Reports.
Got an 06 corolla for $2300. It’s an LE old lady edition. Silver paint, silver wheel covers, faux wood grain interior. It had 95k on the odometer when I got it. Been driving it for a loooong time now. I got it to commute in because my other car is a built out 4Runner that gets like 18 MPG on a good day. My average in the Corolla is like 31 MPG. Was expecting to have gotten rid of it by now. It’s still going.
That intro perfectly explains what the Corolla is best at, reliability with fuel economy
2:02 "For Australia, the Falcon."
You cant say "Falcon" & not mention "Commodore", its just unethical.
+MrHeyfuckoff and ute
Cykoid well, Falcon covers Ford & since Ford created the ute, I'd say he covered it :P
+MrHeyfuckoff forgot about that fact lol, I'm a Ford man all the way but I'm the first to admit the Holden Utes look alot better with not having that awful split and gap between tray and cab
Cykoid Yeah I prefer the Holden unibody too but they both have their pros & cons.
ah my first Corolla, where I cried after my first heartbreak :')
Corolla, for when you say eh fuck it just give me a car.
This but just one caveat..got to be a manual.
0:59 Ten Forward is situated at the extreme forward end of the saucer section and is designed with several large windows, which offer a spectacular view of space ahead of the vessel. the room is accessed by two doors, on the port and starboard sides at the rear of the room. the location serves as the social center of the ship and is equipped with a number of recrational activies
+drummingbomb Is this a channel injoke or something? I've never watched any of his other videos but if there's a frame-message in every one do they all combine to make a long, Gravity Falls style, passage?
+Local Content "Ten Forward" the name of Star Trek The Next Genaration Enterprise D ships on board restaurant/bar/cafe.
Guinan was a character in ST: TNG who worked in Ten Forward who is ~400 years old and serves also as a ships confession booth/interpersonal relation advisor, also portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg.
+drummingbomb shaka, when the walls fell.
+Mandanara Occasionally fraternizes with cigar smoking steamboat, novelist types.
My first car was a 99 Corolla got it for 1,000$ off an Asian dude at 7-11 from my first check was just 18 and I loved it drove her every day called her “Tuna”cause it had this old tuna smell when I got her the smell went away but the old person smell stayed like nostalgia to my nose. It would shake at 85 mph like a carnaval ride but I loved it. Took my ex the women I loved on that car for one last time let her even drive it. 99 Corolla Tuna your prob still running rn with 300,000 miles till this day with that dent I left from hitting my managers civic and the chipped painting on the hood. Will forever hold you dear Tuna
I love my Corolla
Exactly! It is the best built and most reliable car in the world...I own one!
Mine is practically indestructible
@@craigljardine Yea my corolla has went through hell but never quits on me. Definentely getting a corolla next time.
Damn driving through the leaves makes me feel so nostalgic.
I have a 1999 corolla, it has more than 300k miles and has never let me down
This dude really just made an Undertale reference. God DAMN I love this channel
@@manitoba-op4jx Do it. This is just one of the many he's made across multiple videos.
@@manitoba-op4jx How would you know an undertale reference when you hear it then?
I got a 2001 Corolla S. It's an 8th gen like this one. But with foglights, an all black interior, black and red gauge cluster, which shows the RPMs (that go to 8000 for some reason), and an outside temperature meter. It also has an extra 120 watt cig litter near the E-Brake and a thinner "sporty looking" stearing wheel, and 15inch Toyota alloy wheels.
It's honestly a pretty sexy looking little car. I was thinking of trashing it, since it's pushing 300,000 and the reverse is going out. But I think I might just dump a new engine in it and make it a sleeper.
hello 2yr old comment. fancy seeing you here . still got it ?
