Swatching Crayola 100 Colored Pencils - Not What I Expected!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 гру 2022
- I never tried Crayola colored pencils in my adult coloring books, but it wasn't for any negative reasons. I had recently received requests to do some hair tutorials with them, so I finally picked up a pack of 100 for under $15...and well, they weren't what I expected.
A special thank you to the super awesome @EmilyIllustrator for all of her work creating these free, downloadable charts for us all!

I will still never understand why people look down their noses when it comes to Crayola. It's a quality American brand
Oh I've never looked down at them. I just had never thought to try them haha
I only use Crayola ✅
@@SUGAR_XYLER same..
@@mervinwilliams3906 I have a lot more quality sets since watching Kori and other channels. However I have 2 sets each of Crayola and Crazy Art pencils that I like to use a lot in my Inspire bibles. The colors from these sets don’t seem to smudge off on the other pages.
I'm 64 and an adult colorist. Crayola is always my first choice for a colored pencil.
They were quite the surprise to me when I swatched them -- I won't lie!
I just recently got the 150 set and I was pleasantly surprised with how nice they are to use. I hated them as a child because they were so hard and the pigment didn’t go down easily, but that was before I learned how to layer colored pencils.
@@kellyluvskolors2083 is a Walmart exclusive, I believe.
@@kellyluvskolors2083 the 150 set is at Walmart. There aren’t any new colors. They just added the Colors of the World to the original set.
That's the trick - once you figure out how to layer them, they work like a dream.
Yeah, you could not approach these like Prisma which are buttery and opaque and you can get away with no layers.
@@janascallan87 there new colors actually. I didn’t buy the 150 yet but I believe there are maybe 5 new colors🤔
I have the set of 120, the Metallic, and the Colors of the World Crayolas. I love them because they force me to practice light strokes to keep from filling up the tooth too fast. They can be sharpened to a very sharp point, and the point lasts and lasts and lasts! I agree that people need to stop bashing Crayolas - because they're better than other budget brands, and last better than the soft professional brands.
Yes, they are definitely a hard lead, which is why I had thought of them for hair. They will work perfect!
I love my Crayola pencils. They are what I started with and still color with them.
They really aren't shabby
I love love love my Crayola pencils!!!! There's a reason why Crayola has been around since the beginning of time lol! Because Crayola is great! They just came out with new better blending pencils too! I have these ones, sea green is my favorite, the bummer is you can't buy stock pencils when you run out of one and mine is down to a nub 😞 and the 100 count box is the only box it comes in, go figure lol I love the colors of the world pencils for doing skin, they are great and any skin tone can be accomplished!
Which ones are you talking about for blending? The Signature? I had those ones - they've been out at least two or so years now. Don't know if they plan to ever expand that set though.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic yes the signature blend and shade.
Cool! I recently tried them and I was surprised at how much I liked them too. They have some great colors. I would love to see a hair combo with some unusual colors. Thanks for sharing! 💜🎄
They do have some interesting color ranges, and I think for hair, these would work out really well.
Kori, I do have these pencils, and I have used them. While they are not my go to pencils, they have some beautiful greens, blues, yellows, and browns. I especially love the outer space and rainforest. I would love to see you create some hair combos with them. I think you will really like the Colors of the World set!❤
Yes i def want to get that set next. I was quite surprised 😮
@@ColorfullyOptimistic I’ve seen some of Erica’s pages where she has used them for skin, and they turned out beautifully.
I’m not surprised, I use them in my sketchbook when I don’t want to use the Polychromos. I also use them for details with the Arteza Expert because those can’t hold a point for more than a second, and the Crayola work well o top of them. I’m excited about the Crayola hair 😂
Yeah the Arteza expert are a bit too soft for fine detail work sadly
Your swatches for the Crayola pencils look like they have a really good variety of colors available. The test you did for the brown hair color looks awesome! I was not expecting it to turn out that well, especially using Crayoyla colored pencils!
Yeah, me either to be honest. Color me surprised haha
ooh! Happy to see this video. I look forward to seeing how you use these pencils. I have a smaller set and Do enjoy them. Thanks Kori!🙋☃☕❄🎄
Yes, I definitely plan to use these!
Have to comment again to say the little swatch of hair you did looks amazing ! That does it ! I'm going to get them all 😂
ha!
I love Crayola, I've done videos with them ❣️
You should do the 100 Crayola pencil challenge,. I colored a whole Kerby Rosanes picture with nothing but the 100 Crayola set!
That sounds interesting!
@@ColorfullyOptimistic I colored the anchor picture in Kerby Rosanes Colormorphia book all Crayola 100%
I use the Crayola pencils all the time for cards, and I bought the Color of the World set to color my equine coloring books and stamp images. I have a set of Spectrum pencils as well. Some of them color dark cardstock!
Ooooh nice. Yeah I need to get the Colors of the World set.
Hi Kori! I use Crayola Colored Pencils with My Arteza Expert Colored Pencils. The Tan and Khaki are Absolutely Wonderful blending Colors. Thank You for Sharing 💜
Oooh that's good to know.
Love my Crayolas! Used them many times on my pages. Glad you liked them. Thanks for sharing!! ☺️
Yes! I was really surprised how much I enjoyed them lol
I don't know if anyone mentioned this in the comments already, but I highly recommend checking out the Crayola Signature Colored Pencils as well! I believe the biggest set is 50 pencils, but I stinkin' LOVE my small set (can't remember if it's 24 or 36 pencils. 🥰
Yes I have those. They're in my collection videos. I wish they'd expand the line
Color me impressed. I do have the skin tone pencils. I like those. Ok. Looks like I'll add these to my extensive collection. Thanks for sharing ☺️
No problem at all!
I’m amazed I have the 120 set and colours of the world they are still sitting in the box I haven’t touched them lol
Do try them! They can be fun!
Mine sat there awhile waiting for me to swatch, but I'm glad I finally did.
Wow the color selection is impressive. I've wondered about the 100 pack for a long time, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Yeah I was impressed with the color selection myself. That was not bad at all.
I have the 120 pack. I love the fun colors - some that you can't find anywhere else, even in the Black Widows. I can't wait to see how you do your hair combinations!
@@marshabraswell5681 That is so cool! So there are even more colors than in this set? For some reason I thought the 120 set had duplicates!
I have the 120 set and I really do like them. I did a portrait drawing and was very impressed, when I showed it at an art show I had 3 people offer to purchase it, but that sexy Hawaiian man portrait is staying with me- especially since they’re not lightfast. But, I am going to make a print of it for a friend who really wanted to buy it from me. :-) I saw the 150 set at Walmart and got that for a friend for the holidays… I really want to compare the colors as the 20 that are in the 120 set but not the 100 set are really my favs. I have many other sets of professional colored pencils, but I do use these too sometimes. I love Crayola… they also make the best crayons… I was a crayon snob as a kid and no other brand could compare!
Yes, they're definitely not lightfast so that is one thing you have to consider. But, for adult coloring these are just fine.
I've always loved my Crayolas! I have the 120 set and the skin tone set (that you need its the best skin tone set). When I first started coloring I thought anyone that spent more than $50 on pencils was absolutely nuts. Now I own Prismas, Polychromas, Arteza, Black Widow and Derwent.. Oops lol. Plus a few lower-cost sets.
I started down the pencil rabbit hole when I got my Prisma Scholars on sale years ago. I loved them and when I saw the 72-set Prismas on sale on Amazon, I decided to try them. Quickly realized I needed the 150 set, and now I have a ton of pencils and brands. That did take 8+ years though.
Also, I like them on create space paper.
I mean, eventually, we all upgrade. That's just part of being really into a hobby and there's nothing wrong with it!
I love crayola!
They're quite fun!
The pencil with the upside down print you could just sharpen on the other end thus avoiding losing the color designation! Just a thought.
True -- lot of effort though for a budget pencil lol
I LOVEEEEEEE my Crayola’s, they sooo pretty! I searched around and finally found this 100 diff pack and have the COTW too (I’m in NZ)… wish we had the 150 box here … but oh well!
I built them an awesome rainbow lazy Suzan (I gouache painted toilet rolls then hot glued around a huge Maccona coffee jar on top of a lazy Susan… and sorted them to match… and wow, they look great on my desk!
I think...from what I've read at least...the 150 box is a Walmart only thing? Not sure
@@ColorfullyOptimistic An American only thing at least too… 😕 Like some of the other specialty boxes, but that’s ok, I’m happy with my 100+24 🤗🤗🤗 I have other pencils… like my fave Derwent Drawing Pencils and Graphitints….and 36 Inktense, and a few open stock Polychromos and a 120 set of Creyarts to round my life out… and that’s just pencils 🤗 then there’s watercolours, Copic/markers, ink pads, gouache, acrylic paint, 40 set Neo2s, etc etc that I have 😂😂😂 I have expensive and I have cheap…. And I still LOVE my Crayola’s!
I finally also got the Colors of Kindness pencils last week… so that adds 4 new… but also I think 3 others I didn’t have… and I also got the 100 Super Tips today…. Crayola for the win! 🫶
I bought the colors of the world for skin and I couldn’t get enough color out of them so I never bothered to try any more of them they just killed my hand I do know that but I’m glad you like them and look forward to seeing you color with them ❤
Could be the paper you're using doesn't like them maybe.
They are definitely a hard lead and the pigment doesn't come out as easily as other pencils...they remind me a lot of the Procolour in the way they perform, which is why I automatically thought of them for hair.
I have a lot of arthritis in my hands, so I understand what you mean about hurting your hands. Using very light layers helps me, even if I have to put them down for a while and come back later. I'm still learning that technique though.
@@marshabraswell5681 I get that Marsha I have been learning how to use markers and I shade with pencil that has been so much better on my hand . And I’m doing some with watercolors they make a nice base for pencils to ! I do love soft core pencils they are better for my hand to
Maybe I should pick up a small pack, if I come across these? 🤔
Thank you so much for showing 😀
Yeah! They are fairly cheap too so it's easy to try them out without going oh man I just spent $500! Ha
Amazing Job! Thanks for sharing! New subbie! 💛
Awe thank you and welcome to the channel
Skintones are added them and used with prismacolor pencils prismacolor last longer try star joy gold with the Crayola
120 Crayola colored pencils has 100 plus 20 150 Crayola colored pencil s has a ll 32 skin tones plus 4 new color pencil
Sorry I wish I understood what you were trying to say here, but not quite sure. Are you saying to combine them with Star Joy Gold and Prisma?
@@ColorfullyOptimistic yes check out 100 both 100 set 120 set 150 set set have added colors
Try getting your Colors of the world pencils next time you are at Walmart. I bought them there and they were $3 for the set.
I'll do that. Although, our Wal-Mart is always so busy I avoid it as much as possible. I might pay the extra $1 and just buy on Amazon haha
Awesome!! I actually started adult coloring with these (back in 2015) and then gave them to my daughter when I moved up to more "grown up" pencils!! Maybe I'll have to give them another chance!! TFS!!
Oh how funny! Yes i just never used them but was always curious
Now you make me want Crayola 😊
LOL. I was quite surprised.
Hello, full set syndrome...Crayola has a 150 pencil set which includes Colors of the World, and new additions. I really appreciate working with less expensive pencils, it is more inclusive of the general population.
I've heard you can only get that 150 set at Wal-Mart though...it's not available universally it seems
Oh, that's why I haven't been able to find the 150 set! After the Christmas frenzy dies down, I'll make a Walmart run to get them.
The only thing about Crayola is they're not lightfast. But for beginners and just goofing around they're great. I also have a huge (Like storage tub size) selection of Crayola crayons. I got my start in colored pencils with Crayola and then my Dad got me a set of 24 Prismacolors. Just gotta be careful when sharpening and you're good to go.
Yes, I did mention that in the video about the lightfast, but I mean in general, most adult colorists won't need lightfastness anyway. I use an Afmat sharpener, just because I'm used to the easy breakage of Prisma, so these will probably go in that as well.
Yes, they'll do fine in your Afmat sharpener. My Dahl 133 works well too, but I can tell the wood is much harder than on professional pencils.
Thank you for the swatches
I can not find the downloadable for swatches in her website 😅 can you help me with that? Does she have cra-z-art colored pencils swatch sheets too.
TIA I really need these swatches as I’m not good in knowing colors & looking for swatches sheet for a long time & not able to find anywhere. Coloring with guess blends 😅😂
For sure! Just go here: www.emilyillustrator.com/downloads
You shouldve gotten the 120 count and then the colors of the world add those to your set. Theres a lot of interesting color names
At the time I just wasn't sure so I went with the 100.
There's a set of metallic pencils also. I keep my eye out for new Crayola pencil sets.
Where do you get your case? Love it!
I found it on Amazon - B08F34FN27
I buy my cases on Amazon. I wait for them to go on sale for lightning deals and then stack them up. amzn.to/3WcIx8s
I do use crayolas in coloring books especially if I'm going to the park to color.
Nice! I was pleasantly surprised.
The Colors of the world are all different skintones! I like mine I just find them hard to blend and not great imo on Johanna basford Christmas book. But my pic turned out nice. I can share it on your discord if you'd like me too.
Yes, I'd love to see. I'll definitely have to get that pack.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic it is posted in the general on discord and I tagged you.
I us them all time not lot money her bye new set one they are chep I love them
They are definitely inexpensive in comparison to the others I've tried. Thank you so much for watching!
How did you get this order? Did you develop this yourself? I got a 100 pack just a week ago. This is not the same 100 I left at home. Yours is not the same 100 as I recently bought.
No, I did not develop it myself. There is actually a link in the description to the ones I purchased online.
I have Crayola 120 Colored pencils and Crayola color pf the world together
I did see the 120 set, but ended up going with the 100 because I figured it was a good range enough and at the time the price of the 120 was crazy high for some reason lol
@@ColorfullyOptimistic i have 120 and 100 Crayola Colored pencils ☺
Kori I don’t understand how you are making hair look shiny
I have a few hair tutorials -- you can see how I layer hair to create a shiny look
I like the hardness of crayola but not the light fastness...
Wish there was something like crayola with better light fastness... unsure what one to go with.
If you want lightfast pencils with a hard lead, Faber Castel polychromos could be an option.
I agree with the polychromos. I’m the same way I love the hardness of the crayola but that light fast though. Lol the only downfall is the price of the polys. I was lucky enough my boyfriend got me the 60 set. And then I yelled at him cause I love them with all my heart but he didn’t have to spend that much money on them lol
Yeah these are definitely not lightfast. If you prefer hard leads, but want more artist-grade, then I'd look at FC Polychromos, Caran d'ache Pablos, or Derwent Procolour.
