Godox AD200 vs AD360 vs speedlite

  • This is a short video I made to compare the power output from the Godox AD360 and compare it with the new AD200 and a Yongnuo speedlite. I've used the AD360 for a couple of years now and absolutely love them, but I was curious as to whether the AD200 would give me enough power to work with and add the extra benefit of being more portable. I will be doing more real-life testing in the near future, so keep an eye out for those videos soon.

    I do that every time. Don't look at the flash Rick.. looks at the flash.
    Thanks for the video Kevin. Hopefully catch you at The Photography Show in March bud.

    If you're metering a singular light-source, you need to aim the head of the meter directly at the power source. Aiming it incidentally at an angle is only good for ambient/mixed light readings. Sorry if i'm 3 years late to the party!

      Hi Jon, better late than never :) Yeah, I know, maybe the angle makes it look as though I wasn't, but the meter was being aimed at the respective light sources :)

    I think with the x1T you'll be very happy...it works great. Would be nice to see also the pics done with the flashes. your model is lovely !

    all the lights seem to be lined up but you are testing where the subject standing, on the side. obviously you will loose at least a full f-stop for every 2 feet (law of inverse square)

    @chazM6116 6 років тому +1

    The comments about the distance I agree there is some difference even allowing for the wide-angle view BUT if you guys know about light falloff ie the 'inverse square' law you know the distance will not make much difference at 10ft, only if it was like say 3ft. I will say your YN560 III cost much less than the AD200 I was interested in this as I have the RS600 p and was looking for something with HSS as it does not have it. as I have the YONGNUO YN600EX-RT wanted to see how it was up against the AD200 which has HSS and TTL

    I have recently purchased a 5d4 and am looking to upgrade from a youngnuo 560 flash. Most of my portrait are done at home but occasionally I may need to go to other locations (I am not a pro, just an enthusiast taking shots of family and friends). I also love .landscape and woodland photography. I have been looking at the AD200 and the AD360 from Pixapro in the Midlands but cannot seem to make up my mind as to which is the best fit. I have heard that the Bowen mount is a pain when trying to fit the AD200 into it. Have you had similar issues?

      Oh and by the way, I also have a Fuji XT20. Will the pixapro/godox triggers work with the XT20?

      For me, my go-to light nowadays is the AD200 (Pika200) as it gives me enough power for most jobs. For weddings, I now carry the AD200 with a Pixapro Li-ION580 speedlite. If I'm in a tight space or somewhere I can only get away with bounce flash (bridal prep, coming back up the aisle etc.) I reach for the speedlite. When I move into bridal portraits and groups, the AD200 is my key light off-camera and the speedlite goes off-camera too as my kicker. The 360's only make the occasional appearance if I need more power or for bigger events where I may need them to run for longer. The Bowens mount for the AD200 is a wee bit of a squeeze at first, but it's got a rubber lining which loosens up after a wee bit of use. It does need a wee bit of a wiggle to get the AD200 in but I honestly don't find it a major issue.

      KSG Photography Thanks for your advice. I live in the Midlands so I think a trip to essential photo is on the cards for tomorrow ☺. Hopefully I will be able to keep within budget lol😉

      Good luck with the budget - I’d be like a kid in a sweet shop in there ;)

      KSG Photography Well I went to the showroom in Oldbury, West Midlands and yes, I blew my budget out the window lol. I have to say though, it wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be a big showroom with all the gear on display. Unfortunately it looked no more than a store room for odds and ends. The showroom was no bigger than my bedroom with a few beauty dishes on the walls and a couple of stands. I was really quite disappointed. They didn't even have a computer on which to look up pricing , I had to tell them the price of their accessories by using my mobile to look at their website!
      Still, having said all that, I ended up buying more than I intended and am very happy with the Pika200. I just posted a self portrait using the Pika200 on my Flickr page (Geraint Hewett). I used a collapsible beauty dish and a reflector. Are there any "must have" accessories that you would recommend for the Pika200?

    Hello... great video... both Godox flash seems to have consistent output. I am contemplating on getting either. In terms of portability and price - is 1, 2 or 3 stops lower worth it? Or should I invest $100-150 more and go with the 360? Thanks for advise!

    • @ksgphotography
      @ksgphotography  7 років тому

      IAN ANDRES thanks for the feedback. Personally, I'd go for the AD200 due to its portability. The power isn't too far off the 360 but it's an easier unit to use. If I were building a new lighting kit from start that's what I'd base it around.

      tom knightley thanks Tom, I'm using the Godox FT16 triggers at the moment. Godox are bringing out an X1T trigger later in the summer, which will give us HSS and TTL - and I can't wait! 😊

    great video, really not much between the two, I do think you will be pleased once the fuji version of the x1t trigger is released I have the nikon version to go along with the ad200 and it works like a charm I won't go into details but lets just say it makes workflow faster and more efficient

    Thanks for the review , It seems that the ad200 is very bad at high speed sync, will you mind to test the. In that mode side by side ?

      @ksgphotography  7 років тому

      Thanks Jaime, I've got no issues with HSS on the AD200 with the new X1T F triggers. I'm currently working on a video of that, so it should be ready in a few days :)

    We're you using the same trigger for all three flashes.
    I have just purchased the AD200 I have a Canon speedlight and a Yonguno YN560 IV speedlight. Don't really know what trigger to buy or if the trigger you used will be ok any help appreciated.

    Wow.... you have different distances between the subject and the three stands, did you observe?! The comparsion is inadequate in this case because the light power fall with the square of the distance so the “experiment” is waaaaay about to be true. anyway. Nice try

    • @ksgphotography
      @ksgphotography  6 років тому +1

      Thanks Dan, this has been mentioned previously but just in case you missed the reply. All 3 lights were the same distance from the model, certainly within a couple of inches of each other. Perhaps the angle I shot it at, coupled with the very wide angle lens of the Gopro, make it look as though they were at different distances, but please rest assured they were not:)

    Hi Jason thanks for the post... have you used the AD200 with a large reflective brolly for lighting your indoor wedding group shots...ifso would you mind sharing how the combo performed...thanks in advance ....Nigel

    Can we quantify in lay mans terms hoe much more powerful the AD200 is than the Speedlight ? Double ? Doesn't seem like a whole heap but light power is exponential I guess..

    Is that middle stand a boom? If so, what's the model?

    note that your ad3600 is a bit farther away than your ad200 to where you are metering. it's maybe a good 2 feet of distance farther. Would that make any difference in the test results?

    • @ksgphotography
      @ksgphotography  7 років тому

      I think it's the fact that I used the GoPro on it's widest setting that makes it look that way. They are all, in fact, the same distance away from the model.

      It honestly doesn't make sense that they would be the same distance since they are firing straight ahead. Seems like you would have had to move directly in front of each to make it the same distance. If you say it's the same then I guess it is, but it sure seems like each one is successively father away. Terrific vid either way. Thanks.

    Hi friend, do you know if the AD200 works on Fujifilm X-T1 and X-T20?

    • @ksgphotography

      Wilson Soares Mendes Hi Wilson, I haven't used it with my XT1 yet, but I have used those triggers and an AD360 with it and my XPro1, so I expect it would be fine.
