I noticed this about the mounting plates on mine and thought it was pretty lame as well. I left the stock sticks in for a while because of it. After watching you do it I decided to go ahead put the new sticks in too using just those two screws. Mine strangely didn't have any glue under the sticks but they seem to be solid enough for now. I try not to modify the panel boards themselves so it's kind of a bummer, but I'll probably tape a drill bit off at a decent depth and drill in a few new pilot holes for the plate screws at some point just to better secure them and get some added peace of mind. Thanks for the great video. Looking forward to seeing the button swap and investigation.

Glad you found this helpful! And yeah, with the hole issue, I was actually happy for the gobs of glue for a change. 🤣. And same plan on my end. Once I get a couple more hours of play in and confirm everything works as expected, I’ll be adding a couple of holes just to reinforce what’s there.

I would have suggested trying the improved stock sticks before swapping just to see if you liked them. Originally I had planned to switch them out as well but after some play decided they were good enough to keep. The tension is much higher than the previous AC1-up sticks and there are no really noticeable dead zones. They also come with circle gates which I actually find more comfortable because of the odd motions some KI characters have to make.

      Hey Darius!
Yeah, I mean they still feel awful compared to Sanwas to be honest. And circle gates are rough for fighting games, square gate all day for me! Haha. I've been gaming on a Japanese configuration since 2009ish, so there's no turning back for me at this point. I honestly couldn't feel much of an improvement with A1Ups new configuration. It just felt like a different kind of cheap.
My goal is to try keep my A1Ups as consistent with my dedicated fight sticks as possible so that there's no variation in execution across machines and sticks. I'm a bit of a controller snob 😭.

@@OfficeArcade Controls are a very personal taste so I totally get it. Normally I use octo-gates but in this instance I switched back to the stock circle gates because some of the motions in KI were easier to pull off (or more specifically, the octagon made them harder). I did try using square gate as well but that was even worse. Your mileage may vary.

@@dariusq8894 yeah I was definitely struggling with some execution (partially because I don’t know KI all that well). I’ll have to dust off the old 90s strategy guide and hit the lab!

I'd probably suggest adding 3 other screws on the mounting plate, at least on the 3 corners, it might flex or shift with some heavy game play with only 2 screws. I had to do the same thing on my MVC and big blue cab. That port for the harness got in the way of that corner, so I just used a screw in the middle and the rest on the 3 corners.

I ended up just reactivating the glue with heat and haven’t had any problem after doing that. But definitely a great idea if I notice them getting loose! Thank you!

The wire pins probably aren't secured in tight enough, that or the metal ends of the wire that insert into the buttons and stick. Those would be my best guesses.

If you buy the IL style buttons you’ll have to buy the button wiring. If you go with sanwa you can just use the stock wires when you pull them off the stock buttons.
The 12 inch cables were fine for me.
