I believe this video could have been much shorter without losing any important details or ideas. Please be conscious of viewer time. Thank you.

Spot on. We’re an immigrant family who has just moved back to SE Asia beginning of this year. We have lived in Silicon Valley for decades. For many of the reasons that you have mentioned, we relocated with our two adult children to where grew up before we went to college in the US and stayed for decades. We’re are enjoying ourselves doing slow travel.

You are absolutely right. Becoming an expat after financial success in US can be easier for immigrants. Warmer climate, lower cost of services, familiar foods and environment can be more important in retirement. You brought up a very deep and unique socio-economic perspective.

Spending my adult life in the food/beverage and hospitality industry, I worked extensively with immigrants, predominantly Hispanic immigrants. The bulk of them came to the US with some specific goals...to make money to support families in their home country and to make enough in 10-20 years to live comfortably in their home countries. Again, the bulk worked 2 jobs, lived very modestly, shared vehicles and other higher end items amongst themselves willingly. None were trying to keep up with the "Jones Family" which so many Americans do.
I made sure to try to include them in parts of or pastimes of American culture be it a sanctioned employee party or just a few friends gathering together. Not all that many would participate yet some did and really enjoyed those various outings and get togethers.
So often in the US...people treat immigrants as lesser beings or even worse. Yet what they do not even fathom is just how indispensable immigrants are to the very things that make their own lives so comfortable and enjoyable.
It saddens me that so many of my fellow human beings and it isn't just in the US...treat other human beings so poorly. I know I can't change the world but I can live my life as I always have and treat people like I want to be treated, with dignity.

You're being one sided. You mentioned a BIG issue, but failed to look at it from the perspective of the US Economy:
"to make money to support families in their home country and to make enough in 10-20 years to live comfortably in their home countries."
aka Remittance. So, how does this HELP the US economy, when earnings are literally siphoned off because $$$ is sent home ? Dare I say, that appears parasitic, wouldnt you think ?
Lets look at it in another way, another example/analogy:
Lets say Im a multimillionare venture capitalist and investor who sees a niche market in a fictional country called "Pan Salvador", opening up "8-12" convenience stores in 200 locations.
most of the $$$ made ias profit is then sent out of country, literally siphoning from the economy b/c the $$$ isnt put back into the country.
Folks would be screaming "Unfair !!!!" and demand changes.

The pandemic was the wake up call for many people in a couple of ways. First, realizing the options/opportunities to work remotely which has changed work/career culture for good. Second, discovering the myriad of locations globally that offer great quality of living for those on a modest income. The tide has shifted and people are waking up to it.

Yes, the plan-demic was quite a wake-up call. Not only did the people see how governments hate and disrespect the people, but they saw that their employers offered them little or no job security. And so we had "The Great Resignation" as many people figured out that they were investing too much toil for their employers who would just lay them off or send them home, for a mere soft economy or at the drop of a hat.
I worked the entire time, and what thanks did I get? Well just my paycheck. No extra hazard pay, not even a _doesn't-work-anyway_ face diaper. A friend quipped that we workers are "expendable". If we die, they will just replace us. Well naturally, when my employer wanted to be noisy, pretty sure a violation of HIPPAA or however it is spelled?, I responded online, that I will not get the jab ever. I saw no need for it, nor any reason to trust it. The plan-demic was largely over with by then anyway. And I knew that natural immunity was a thing.
But somehow I totally missed out on the "remote working" thing. I was "around you sick people the entire time", so no need at all for a jab with already reasonably good natural immunity. One big reason that I want to leave the country, when I do leave, hopefully I will be finally totally retired, and hopefully not having to explore where to go and how to do it anymore. How nice would it be to work on my projects and hobbies, no more job to have to wake up for. Setting my alarm clock to guard against the are occasion of over-sleeping.
With confidence in jabs at hopefully a record low, I would like to make sure, that none are required wherever it is that I end up. Maybe the anti-v people were onto something? How do we even know if any of the jabs work? Are some bad, or are they all potentially bad now? Think about it. You get a jab to prevent you from catching something that you were not going to catch anyway. So where is the scientific measure of effectiveness? Do their fake studies have more to do with profits and control of the "sheeple"?
Sweden had it right in not shutting down their economy. Too bad the country is so cold, the immigration process is probably not very inviting, and that they fail to check the other check-boxes?

And they have weird religion. I think that even The Philippines would be a better choice. At least as a former USA territory, many Filipinos speak English, and they have a better Christianity mix. And tend to have large families, which is very good.

Poor people come here for the jobs. People with any money leave because of the high taxes, corruption, and cost-of-living is too high. The evil Democrats are pricing us out of our own country. But since they have ruined it already, why stay? Why not leave and go to some place better? I do not see how this rigged corrupt economy is even sustainable. And our elections are also rigged. What did Trump say, We need it to be "too big to rig". Well if that is what is going on, then the big red wave is actually much larger than the fake-news would have us to think.
There is also the theory that while it was the USA as part of some evil Western regime foisting harsh unnatural contraceptives onto the world, to promote immorality and to weaken or destroy the family, rationalized under bogus or hokey theories of "overpopulation" or "climate change", resulting in abnormal low birthrate and undermining the work force, so the politicians import immigrants to compensate for the low birthrate, to keep the economy from faster collapsing.
Some of the lost base of the Democrat Party, talks of how they are being "replaced". The evil Democrat Party can't get the people to vote the way that they want, well they do not even need our votes, they just replace us, they think that they can buy off illegals' votes, no matter that they can not legally vote. I hear they do not even need the votes, just get them registered to vote, so as to cover the tracks of ballot box stuffing. More votes than registered voters (in notable swing states that they have their political machine established in), kinda of an obvious giveaway clue that the election can not be certified to be authentic. Mass immigration/invasion to prop up their sagging/eroding base, as the people are slowly figuring out what they are really up to.
Even Roseanne Barr is fed up with the Democrats. The Party left her. The little bit I have heard her talk, her political commentary is interesting. No wonder my Mom liked Roseanne for some reason?
Then there is the old theory that the immigrants do the jobs that Americans won't do. Or that it is a way to undercut the minimum wage. Cutting taxes and lowering the cost of living, would be a far better and more honest means of fixing problems.

That's a pretty & quiet location for filming, the varied lighting is nice. All other factors considered for leaving behind friends & family the West: a 60-year-old below average looking, non-wealthy man, can't date a 25-35 year-old who looks like a bikini model & has traditional values. I believe dating alone is strong enough for 95% of the reason men choose the far East & endure brown outs, bad sidewalks, wicked heat, visa hassles, traffic, stray dogs, loud scooters & roosters... all the frustrations of the Philippines. When it comes to where? Philippines & Malaysia speak English versus Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia or Cambodia - it's a choice fully based on the ability to communicate.

  • @StanHasselback
    @StanHasselback Місяць тому +1

interesting topic Alex. My grandparents were immigrants my father was the first child born in America. I'm pro immigrant as I think the benefits outweigh any of the potential negatives. That said you can look at the numbers over the years and currently the U.S. has the highest percentage of immigrants since 1890. Again I don't see this as a bad thing just a contributing factor as to why you are seeing a change. On a quick google search 26% of all children in the U.S. have a parent who was foreign born. Population for countries that are already developed are declining and overall this is not good for an economy so immigrants help offset this. When immigrant population are high in any country they typically get blamed for a host of ills that they mostly don't deserve. So one of the reasons you are seeing so many more immigrants repatriate themselves is because there is a lot bigger pool to draw from. Also when you have a large immigrant population it may decrease wages especially for jobs that don't need specialized skills and they don't feel their labor is being fairly compensated. It would be interesting to see the which immigrants are leaving and their ages.

My impression of you is having found yourself in the Philippines as I did in 2013 - 2016. I also struggled with the idea of going back to the USA and working to improve my financial position if the Philippines is going to be my retirement location. You seem to have skills that could help you live a stronger financial position so you can move pass negative thoughts about the USA. The Philippines is not the place for tourist visa American to come to and find financial success. You must understand no one will care when 10 years from now your financial position has not changed. I know the negative feeling when accepting the truth that your 1st swing at the Philippines is not as good because of several reason. What I learned doing my stay is if you are not in a stable financial position the Philippines is a hard place to live or you will continue to lower your standards for your life. If you have already started down this path...I would suggest you go and correct what you know is not good for you at this time. Crazy inflation of incompetent leadership and unmanageable national debt of a reserve currency leads to this unstable world where every independent and capable thinker is looking for an ark for themselves and their family/future.
