This is a great video with some good advice. Unfortunately the health care is not the best in the Philippines. A lot of them do not have regular check ups. I know my GP will advise me of the vaccines for my age. A friend of mine here has regular skin cancer checks every 6 months and the last three times had cancerous moles that were discovered.
I visited for a month and the food and pollution adversely affected my health. There's sugar and seed oils in everything. That right there will kill me. There's also a lot of carbs in everything. Then there's the air pollution. That will mess up my lungs. Then there's the noise pollution. That will cause tremendous stress. Plus being viewed as an ATM is stressful. I'd take a look at what Filipinos are dying of. Diabetes is a big one. And life Expectancy is low there. They appear to be getting fatter there, like the West. That's the food. Most days I walk 10K steps. But it became increasingly unsafe because I stood out like a big white target. Then there's skin cancer. I think if you're fortunate to find yourself in a good situation like Mark, living on the beach in a nice house, you're going to be healthier, although I don't know what is like to walk 3-5 miles there daily while being watched by the native. Oh look: the ATM's walking down the beach again. Let's go make a withdrawel.
I went there for three months this past summer. Sorry that your experience was bad, but mine was the exact opposite. Little stress and friendly people in the places I stayed. Lapu Lapu, Hindang, and a few smaller barangays. The history, if you look for it, is amazing. The views are gorgeous. The people minded their own business unless I, or my girlfriend, needed something, or just wanted to visit. Better luck to you.

I lived in Dauin for 7 months. It got where I couldn't take a walk around town because there were so many people burning vegetation, I couldn't breathe. The motorbikes also pollute a lot. I realized how bad it was when I was coming back to Dumaguete on a boat. Being off shore, you can see a thick ring of smoke clinging to the island. The pollution may not be up high in the air like other parts of Asia, but it is definitely there down low where you are breathing.

Carnivore will stabilize heart disease and greatly reduce the likelihood of cancer. Whole food not fried in vegetable oil at least. It depends on how bad a shape your metabolism is. I've been under massive stress for years and my arteries are clear. I've also been active and low carb for over 20 years. My cholesterol is over 300.
Mark, I'm a Filipino American from Mindanao and I have to tell you: Filipino foods are not healthy. I'm currently living in the U.S. now, but If I lived In Pinas, the long term plan would be avoiding sugar alcohol, and smoking. Sugar or carbs is the worst for diabetes and CVDs. This can be optimized further by avoiding carbs all together. At this state your kidneys will flush salt naturally and blood pressure down. I would need to make sure electrolytes are replenished. This will keep me from needing a doctor.
It's one thing I've noticed now as I've gotten older, now 70, is the older I get the more fussy the body seems to be about it's fuel and how it's treated. There are many foods now that I can't eat for one reason or another, even some natural foods like nightshade vegetables. One example just a sprinkle of Paprika on food will cripple my joints up with pain for a day. Other than that I've pretty much become a vegetarian, I no longer eat any manufactured foods at all. I've got to really watch for overexertion, that will mess me up sometimes for days.

4 years in I had no energy in the PH and doctors diagnosed heart disease and blockage. I was ready to die any minute for a year, then got my wife's visa. In the US, after a lot of testing they concluded my heart is just fine... The PH doctors wanted to laser tiny holes in my wife's eyeballs to relieve pressure. Another great video; as I listen / learn I realize that many of the risks of dy*** in the Philippines are also present in the "West" (New Zealand for me). To me it is scary; 'dea** ' I mean. Life is so precious, so wonderful yet so many are careless of the wonderful gift of being alive. I have thought of holidaying in the Philippines over our southern winter (June-August) but I fear I would be bored as I am no longer into casual bedroom exercise and booze : it would be hard to resist the senoritas... Besides I love cycling (nearly 5000km this year.) Those lovely tropical nights... swimming.... ahhh lifes' choices... May you live long and prosper.... From Ivan in New Zealand.
Another idea. Marry a Filipina and bring her back here, to civilization. You get the best of both worlds: good medical and a warm bed. This is what the smart guys do.
The best way it seems, to mitigate the extensive and varied risks of disease, injury and premature death in the Philippines, is to avoid going there at all; hmm?🤨 Jus' sayin'!
I disliked driving even back home. So when I moved to Manila, I don't even bother. Way too risky. Defensive driving is irrelevant here. As for healthcare, fortunately I have the VA. Though I admit I can probably reduce my drinking and should quit smoking. Thanks for the video and the great advice.
I've recently realized I have been using salt mindlessly all my life. At the direction of my cardiologist I cut sodium down to 1500 mg - 2300 mg a day -- most days -- and my blood pressure dropped 20 points. (Look up the DASH diet.) My blood pressure is now consistently below the level at which I'd be prescribed blood pressure medication.
The COVID damaged my lungs in the US. I traveled to the Philippines twice (two different summers) and had problems coughing both times. I am hoping that I do better next year. I won't sell everything I own to move there until I know I am not putting my health at risk.
From what I see diet is the worst on everyone here, I do all my own cooking, Have lupus, Fight some infections, Really have to be careful, here, If need surgery Fly back to USA, was told by Filipino doctor in USA just not to take the chance with infections, To me the heat is hard for sure humidity wow,
If, you can find a place that’s fairly quiet (and this takes concentrated effort.). And if you only drink good water, And be very careful where and what you eat, And if you surround yourself with people that don’t take advantage of you , And if you gain understanding why things are like they are in PI, And you look for the good in people while having wisdom to avoid the bad then you will do ok here. The urge to go back to the comfort of your western home will come and go, but as a man in his 60s , watching the controlled demolition of the western world is painful to watch. So in PI I live a quiet life, cook most of our meals with good ingredients, spend time in nature or sitting by the river and find the good people to enjoy, life is what you make it.
The problem is if someone has a heart attack or a stroke while there. You may very well find that while in a first world country you could be easilybe treated for such a situation while in the Philippines, you very well could die in the same situation.
Excellent video and good advice that you present. I’ve had a stroke 10 years ago and have to take an aspirin per day. Where can I get a 325mg aspirin as it is not allowed here.
My brother came here to visit with me a month ago, and he only has 46% lung function and is on steroid inhalers. The humidity here was making it very uncomfortable for him.
Me thinketh we understand that the food in the Phillipines is very unhealthy, oily (mainly vegetable and seed oils) heaps of salt and .......sugar!@?!@😉🤪🤑 P.S. They don't call it a., third world country for.......nothing!@?🤪
The food in the Philippines is very saturated with fat. Stick with vegetables & fish only, raw steamed or boiled bananas & less rice. No sweets or sugar.
Anyone know the rate of Excess Deaths and other needle related damages? Can't find phils stats anywhere. Even percentage of uptake of the juice. Other Asian counties suffered badly.
A hospital almost killed me when I first came I contracted mrsa and local doctors gave me the wrong meds. . I think is how you spell it, I've gotten dingy virus thought I was dying, had to stay 3 days in the hospital another time for a infection that I got through a open cut, But the doctors here also found a issue the American doctors missed I had urgent surgery back in the states.
Short answer: lack of financial stability. There will always be expats as well. All Expats are in the bottom 20% of the average annual incomes in their home countries. That is why they choose to retire in the Philippines or Thailand because they cannot afford to live in their homelands or Singapore or Malaysia 😎😎😎

I don’t get it! Why are you, and most other vloggers down on 3wheelers? Bud Brown drove one for years, and I can’t recall him ever being injured while driving his Russi Chariot, or the other one he had… I’m 5-0, vs. motorcycles! Plus, I carry a Philippine driver license and insurance. I bought a Bajaj RE, or Baobao, in 2017. I drive it all over the Pagadian City area on Mindanao! I equipped it with truck style mirrors, and running boards, along with a rooftop luggage rack! There was a short learning curve, getting used to how the Bajaj cornered, but it didn’t take long to figure out! On of my former inlaws took me driving, and showed me the ropes of province driving in the Philippines. I spent less than four hours at the local LTO office getting my license. My ex coerced me into letting her brother have my bajaj, but I will be buying a new one, or one that looks99% identical, but the make escapes me at this time. The newer units have a @250cc motor, vs@200cc for the first ones available when I bought mine… The Russi Chariots are motorcycles, factory converted to trikes. Those feature a two speed, rear axle, and taller tires… One of my favorite things, about my Bajaj, were the awesome lights, including bright/dim headlights, and highly visible brake and turn signals, as well as proper tail lights! Oh! And they’re equipped with decent windshield wipers as well!
Really appreciate your advice! I am going to marry a Filipino, but have taken several years planning and getting financial things in order! Preparation and taking care of family/health as always very important!

@@SickGrand-Pa that’s not true. Even if it was those at the bottom still make significantly more than 99 percent of locals.
@@jerryG-p3w Agreed. In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king! It is those expats who bitch and complain about Filipino culture and complain about their Fiilipinas who should go home to languish in the bottom 20% of their own country. The rest are most welcome
From Ivan in New Zealand.
if you dont drink, smoke, do drugs, bang hookers daily, and love to exercise and eat healthy? then you will be very lonelhy in the PI.
Another idea. Marry a Filipina and bring her back here, to civilization. You get the best of both worlds: good medical and a warm bed. This is what the smart guys do.
thats what I did..
Facts
Bingo! 🌴😎
The best way it seems, to mitigate the extensive and varied risks of disease, injury and premature death in the Philippines, is to avoid going there at all; hmm?🤨
Jus' sayin'!
I agree
Excellent video!
Stress is a big reason for bad health and being in the Philippines will help you stay healthy.
Expats age alarmingly fast in Philippines. I've watched it with my own eyes. been there many times and 3 years all together.
I have a question why stray dogs on the road are so tolerated in the Philipinnes? It causes many accidents it seems an easy thing to fix.
I have no idea. In BGC in Manila no stray dogs. In Negros they are everywhere
Mark. Do a video on crime in the PI. I’m curious.
Great advice, regardless of where on earth 🌎 you live.😊
I want to know what floor polish you are using on that beautiful wooden floor, I see a sponsorship opportunity here 😉
What are you talking about? there is no mail in the Philippines let alone mailboxes.
The problem is if someone has a heart attack or a stroke while there. You may very well find that while in a first world country you could be easilybe treated for such a situation while in the Philippines, you very well could die in the same situation.
I know. If I have another heart attack I don't think there is anything the hospital could do for me.
Excellent video and good advice that you present. I’ve had a stroke 10 years ago and have to take an aspirin per day. Where can I get a 325mg aspirin as it is not allowed here.
Maybe mailed from family from USA or thru Amazon who do deliver to PH
My brother came here to visit with me a month ago, and he only has 46% lung function and is on steroid inhalers. The humidity here was making it very uncomfortable for him.
you look a LOT better now than in your video from 2 years ago when you had a health scare.
Fauci ouchie. Don’t do drugs.
Me thinketh we understand that the food in the Phillipines is very unhealthy, oily (mainly vegetable and seed oils) heaps of salt and .......sugar!@?!@😉🤪🤑
P.S. They don't call it a., third world country for.......nothing!@?🤪
The Substandard Medical Care and Hospital don't help.
I’ll probably get a bike, no motor scooter or car. I’m not staying there full time just visiting a few months at a time is my plan.
It seems that a poor diet, lack of exercise and alcohol are the main contributing factors.
A hospital almost killed me when I first came I contracted mrsa and local doctors gave me the wrong meds. . I think is how you spell it, I've gotten dingy virus thought I was dying, had to stay 3 days in the hospital another time for a infection that I got through a open cut,
But the doctors here also found a issue the American doctors missed I had urgent surgery back in the states.
You're correct. But also they come here to meet a woman
We Filipinos find it funny that foreigners come here to look for women and go out with the ugliest women in our country. And yet a lot of these foreigners act like visiting celebrities or royalty. We Filipinos really find you foreigners ridiculous!
@@everymanhasastory why would you agree with him on such a nonsense statement? Where is the source for something like that. Stop being so quick to put down foreigners and prop up them. Shameful.
Did you come from Louisville KY? I live close to that area.
Mark have you lost weight! Looking good 👍
Hi. I think the problems you mention here are not special to the Philippines, they're global issues. Question: Is AI writing your scripts?
Im 61 and don't have "balance issues."
Pstt....Vaccines...
Nobody even wants to mention it
@bernie57 Right. It's like "cognitive dissonance". Nobody wants to even THINK that there could even be a link... Nobody wants to go there. That is incredible and is actually very frightening.
@@ColinDale-v2k I agree. the last 4 years have provided a scary confirmation of people's herd like instincts (at least the great majority of humanity - definitely not my family). At this point, people are secretly terrified and can't allow themselves to even publicly consider this possibility.
Thanks!
Curious what the chances are of being able to purchase organic food in Philippines.
Slim to none
Do you and other expats have a primary care physician there?
Yes. And was to get. Just go to Silliman Hospital during open hours and walk in. $10
Age!
Hang in there Mark. You do look like you're aging. I got a kick out of some of your stories.
Whats killimg you in the Philippines?
1. Being uninformed
2. Boozing
3. Displaying wealth
4. Ladybars
5. Excess
6. General stupidity
You got lots of chicken pork and fish.
Potatoes , sweet potatoes and vegetables, and fruits.
There is no reason to be sick in F.L.I.P.S.
Why are bicycles dangerous? Are there no shoulders on the roads.
Probably because they get hit having to ride in traffic and emergency rooms are few and far between.
It varies from shoulders, to no shoulders with concrete ditches at the edge of the road , to potholes that would jar your teeth and lots of hills that tough bikes come down as fast as possible. Dogs and goats sleeping in the road day and night.
I live in Panama in the interior or out in the province. Everything you are talking about for the Philippines is applicable in Panama. You present good advice. I have been in Panama for 15 years. I have had to turn my life around in order to stay alive as long as I have. I had to quit drinking and smoking. I had to go on a strict low carb diet. I had a mini stroke about 3 years ago. I have been riding scooters and small motorcycles for the last 15 years in Panama. I ride slow. I stay on the right side of the road. I wear a helmet. Never ride at night. I pray a lot. We must learn to take responsibility when we live outside of the US. Living in Panama has been a good experience for me in spite of the challenges I have had to over come. God has blessed me. Thank you for this fine video.
Crazy not talking care of their bodies
Do you have a gym or health club ?
I don’t get it! Why are you, and most other vloggers down on 3wheelers? Bud Brown drove one for years, and I can’t recall him ever being injured while driving his Russi Chariot, or the other one he had…
I’m 5-0, vs. motorcycles!
The newer units have a @250cc motor, vs@200cc for the first ones available when I bought mine…
The Russi Chariots are motorcycles, factory converted to trikes. Those feature a two speed, rear axle, and taller tires…
One of my favorite things, about my Bajaj, were the awesome lights, including bright/dim headlights, and highly visible brake and turn signals, as well as proper tail lights! Oh! And they’re equipped with decent windshield wipers as well!
What are they dying from?
F......old age!

What about wildlife ? Snakes ?
Random snakes. The wildlife has been killed off for the most part.
What kind of Snakes 🐍 ?
