- In today's Photoshop tutorial I'm going to show you 5 ways to create the trendy Duotone look, the colourful photo effect where the shadows and highlights of an image are replaced with vibrant contrasting hues. This effect was popularised by the music app Spotify when it used the duotone effect in its promotional imagery of artists and bands. In this video I'll show you a selection of different methods to create the effect. Some are quick and easy, while others provide you with more control over the final result. Stick around to the end to see the easiest method using my free Duotone Gradient Presets from Spoon Graphics, which allow you to apply various duotone colour schemes to an image with a single click.

I've used your free duotone gradients using gradient map, your presets are awesome i've used them in many of my projects, thankyou very much, u r the best.
Nice tutorial. Gradient maps are my favorite too. They're the most flexible and don't have to use only two colors.
I learn always something new, thank you Spoon Graphics for sharing your precious knowledge
BRILLIANT lesson! I have learned so much from it. Fantastic.
This was extremely helpful! Thanks very much!
Thank you. Very useful.
Thanks for great info
Awesome tips!
As you mentioned the classic Duotone effect used to enhance the printing of black and white images it might be added that this is not just a visual "effect" but (real) Duotone printing considerably increases the number of actual hues or tones in the printed image. When printing just with black ink you can only reproduce a limited number of shades (the specific number depends on the actual line per inch grid used in the printing process). When you have another colour mapped to tones of your original b&w image this colour for itself will provide again the same number of shades in the printed result as the (usually) black already had before. And, of course, you have all those combinations of the two colours where they actually mix/overlap in the image.
Dope edits 👏👏👏
Like the 3 & final method
nice thank you

The look was popularized by the Blue Note albums of the 50s and 60s. Spotify, which like pretty much every entity in the music biz these days is utterly incapable of originality, simply copied the look from them. Sorry, forgot to add: thanks, this is a very handy combo tutorial!
My method;
Add a layer, fill it in. Change the drop-down to darken.
Add another layer fill it in. Same thing but change it to lighten
Can you elaborate on that? A second filled layer set to 'lighten' on layer mode doesn't appear to do anything.
Hard to follow.
Didn’t work for me. Funny how you guys always over explain the intro but sped through the actual steps lol
