If it's for something like sexual assault or suicide I cam understand it, but this shit is ridiculous. We have essentially had content warnings at the beginning of movies as long as I can remember. However, this shit of every little thing needs to be a trigger warning is ridiculous.

The only time you might do this is if you know the risk of someone making a provable claim, from a legal standpoint, is nearly non-existent. Which also indicates that they don't truly believe real harm has occured.

LOL that implies they were their games to begin with, they're just being petty since they neither developed the originals which are held in high regard nor these remasters which are being met with equal popularity. The label "Aspyr Media" on the game shows who developed these, Crystal Dynamics I believe are only being mentioned because they're more known for these recent Tomb Raider games.
"Our" aka just holding the IP, but not creating it. THey have nothing to do with the classics nor withthe Remaster. THey just hate that the whole global world still loves and remembers clasic Lara Croft. Not their cheap knock off. I bet you can ask any person around the world about what weapons Lara use, and they will say "Two guns" or what is the prime recognicable thing of her and they will say "boobs". Of course classic Lara is a smart and strong woman but seriously the primary thing people lookout for are boobs, butt and abs.

According to Melonie Mac these remasters were developed by a separate studio called Aspyr. Crystal Dynamics added the disclaimers out of spite because they hate the old games.
I like Aspyr! They have remastered a bunch of old games that I have on switch. A lot of those still have the old bugs in them, so they aren't messing with the source code, just upscaling the resolutions as far as I can tell. Makes sense that the original creators would be the ones demanding this, especially if what she says is true.
How much you want to bet that modding them out will make them mad and get banned from Nexus?
Crystal Dynamics aren't even the original developers. The series was originally developed by Core Design Limited, now defunct, and the rights went over to Crystal Dynamics after.
@@dansilvers8052TBH I never really played the old Tomb Raider games, I was a final fantasy kid. Makes sense even more that they would hate those games, if they were only the publisher. I only know of Crystal Dynamics because of Tomb Raider, and it must burn their asses that the thing they're most known for is something they didn't even create.

That's because AAA western gaming has adopted the norms of the film industry, where plot dictates how characters look, dress and act. If the game's about a zombie apocalypse or doomsday apocalypse, where does it make sense to doll up female characters like supermodels? There are still instances of western games that have suggested themes, but only if there's a plot that calls for them, such as Crime Boss: Rockay City.

Crystal Dynamic didn't develop this remaster. Aspyr did (they had experience in porting these games back then). Crystal Dynamics is salty that this thing even exists and put this "warning" in because they actively hate the original Lara Croft.
They used to like the original Lara. Crystal Dynamics made the remake of the original Tomb Raider that released on pretty much everything back in the 2000s.
Modern Crystal Dynamics is just another skin suit worn by woke colonizers pushing their agendas. Shame how many once great devs have ended up like this.

@@backup368 They didn't approve it, and never would have. TR fans have been begging for remakes of the classic TR games for ages now, and Crystal Dynamics has outright refused to make them, because the woke hipsters who work there now hate the original games with a burning passion.
But a while ago they got purchased by Embracer group. Remember that? Big news back in the day. Embracer now owns them, and since Embracer does like the idea of making some money, they were the ones who gave Aspyr the go ahead to do these remakes (and the hipsters at Crystal Dynamics have been seething and raging ever since).

Crystal Dynamics had a strong interest in making older Tomb Raider games for Switch as early as 2017. A spokesman said the Lara Croft spinoffs on the Switch would be a "good idea".
So long as Square Enix owned Crystal Dymanics, this never happened, until the company found a new owner, and to date, Square Enix is the developer with the most 3rd party software on the Switch.

I don't play video games, but I am a cinema collector, and when I spend a lot of money on a 4K disc and the first thing I see when I pop it in my player is a trigger warning, I still get annoyed.

For the first time the public finally has reference quality versions of 100 years of films with the release of 4K discs. The cultural revolutionaries haven't completely taken over yet, because if they had their way they wouldn't simply be slapping trigger warnings on things, but they'd be completely erasing any 'offending' films from history. A group of dedicated film collectors will stop that cultural erasure from happening, in a sense crowd sourcing the counter-revolution. Because of perverse intellectual property laws I'm forced to give my money to some people you hate me, but I don't think the original artist did.
But would you rather have that so-called "offensive" theme removed entirely or just post a disclaimer so that they can keep it in the film or show? I think that's what it comes down to.

you can play the classics on modern consoles and PCs now and the graphic got updated, controls are optional updated, there is a photomode and some little helper options for newcomers. People love it except the disclaimer.

When I first scanned the headlines yesterday upon learning about this I was sure that's what the disclaimer would be about - over sexualisation of women or something. Nope, it's about something that wasn't even an issue even when the game first came out.

We never got a remaster before because Crystal Dynamics never cared about the original games. In 2007 they created a remake when they find out that Core Design was developing their own remake...So, they never cared or liked the classic games and never respected the original developers, and that disclaimer is just a childish way to express that

X-Twitter doesn't seem to know the difference between reality and fiction, so why would the people who pander to them? These disclaimers are not for us, which might also be why they are one-time only, as opposed to, say, the health-based disclaimers that appear every time you open a Mihoyo game.

Tomb Raider 1-4 were great, didn't like the newer ones though. I really preferred the old "clunky" controls, I felt they were the most precise ones.

The only thing harmed by the original games was my wallet when I had to buy a geforce card. I think reparations against Crystal Dynamics is warranted.

From playing the first remake, I was stunned by the gorey violence of the player deaths in those titles. It's amazing how accepted extreme violence is, but instead, emphasized female bodyparts are considered triggering.

I wonder if that was actually the plan. The games were made by Core Design, the remaster by Aspyr and another company. Crystal just holds the IP unfortunatly. They want it to flop so they can promote their trans Lara as the one people want.

I watched an old cartoon compilation on Disney+ yesterday with such a disclaimer. I admit it didn't have my full attention but I only saw one story that had native amercians in it. In the cartoon the natives and colonists had come together and were dancing and living together in peace. The colonists were just as stylised and weird-looking as the natives were drawn. I honestly saw nothing that could be construed as harmful in anyway.
HR probably advises it. They'd say that 'it features Native Americans in stereotypes, so you have to put a disclaimer on it.' Likely just a way to avoid being sued for it.
They probably put it on everything made before a certain point, because some people only focus on the superficial rather than what's actually happening.
They constantly complain about stereotypis of non-white people while white stereotypes are fine.

I do not believe it is a compromise. They're only doing it because there is no way for them to supposedly fix what they find wrong with it and still have a game.
It's like putting an adult content warning in front of a 3X video because it would be impossible to eliminate the graphic content and still have a 3X video
They don't find anything wrong with the game. They are just trying to placate the Cancel Pigs online. It's the same as buying liability insurance or retaining a lawyer for your business. They are trying to mitigate risk. If all it takes is a few paragraphs of text to do so, then it's a small price to pay. However, if those lines of text end up hurting sales more than helping, then they may be a bigger faux pas than the original "harmful content." I know that I will not be buying this game now because of it. I do not support companies who do not fully stand behind their product.

It's not compromise - it's hypocrisy. They believe the content to be harmful and deleterious (in an unspecified way) yet still produce and market the game.
Really the content statements on nicotine products and adult entertainment are there because they're required by law; they probably wouldn't be otherwise. That's the difference between moral hypocrisy and moral corruption.
Funny thing is Crystal has stereotypical tribe men in their "Reboot" series, too. Also canibals and other stereotypes.

I only buy physical and was planning on getting this as soon as the physical version was available, but not after this. If this had been a simple "Is a product of the time it was made" message it would be annoying and prompt and eye roll, but I could live with it. But the venom, spite and nastiness coming from this statement really offends me. It's like the Gina Carano dismissal statement - a personal insult. Every time you load up this game you're basically being told you're a piece of shit for buying and playing this, while the makers laugh all the way to the bank? Fuck that. I've got my originals and got the ROMS that I can play on a retro console. Don't need this condescending attitude putting down me or my interests. How anyone can see this as a positive thing is beyond me.

On the PC you can use "-nolegal" as a command to jump directly to the main menue, but I am not sure if it is ever released physically on PC.
Sad to see that the Tomb Raider franchise basically became a Frankenstein's monster, a curious creation that is rejected by it's creator, thus promising a horrible path of destruction.

So is the fact that Lara Croft is hot the reason for the trigger warning? I honestly have no idea why the game will need one. the fact that we have to draw at straws to figure out why there is a trigger warning in the first place. is a good reason why it’s not needed.
That thing of giving ancient artifacts back to "their rightful owners" is pure BS. Most of the time the inhabitants of a modern country are not the descendants of the peoples who created such artifacts. And you will give milleniah old relics to islamic extremists who will destroy them? Because of their religious dogma of the very existence of peoples, religions and gods that existed before theirs is a blasphemy.
Simply leaving said relics to their original resting place would be doing them a bigger favor than blindly handing them over to whoever happened to replace the original natives.
