Disney paid $4 billion for Star Wars. I doubt the franchise is even worth $1 billion now based on how badly Disney has mucked it up with a bunch of low quality films and shows. The Star Wars brand is super diluted now and young people don't even care about it which shows it is definitely dying.
To be fair, Ryan Johnson is a master of subverting expectations. For example, I was expecting "Last Jedi" to be watchable. That expectation was subverted, alright.
Star Wars now is basically dead. There is so much Star Wars out in the world now, that all future films have lost their magic.
Disney Marvel and Lucasfilm crap has been so bad that I stopped watching all geek genre movies circa the sequel trilogy. And I haven't seen anything to make me bother to come back.
The very thought of Star Wars at this point is exhausting and depressing. When I was a kid in the 90s, Star Wars was kept alive through the EU books and a constant presence at toy stores, but the movies were far in the past and just something that you would see on TV every now and then. It was like a comfortable, low-energy hum in the background that was always there if you wanted it, but you could just ignore it. Now? It's constantly screaming in your face and demanding your attention, I just want it to go away.
R.I.P. Star Wars (1977-2012)
The fact they never put the three original cast on the screen in a scene means they wasted a golden opportunity that would have made cinema history, and pleased fans who had been waiting for that very thing for over 30 years.
Bob Igar, in his memoir said Lucasfilm and Marvel were to gain the male audience. Their biggest fail was trying to convert the boys' brand into a girl's one.
Disney is awful. They ruined marvel and Star wars. Whats next?
“You were supposed to cash in on my childhood nostalgia, not destroy it!” - Obi-Wan Kenobi
Top Gun: Maverick is how you make a legacy sequel to a beloved film the right way.
Imagine buying a popular bar or pub. It's been around for ages. The locals love it. It's in a nice old building and is just a good place for patrons to have a pint, throw some darts, and gossip. It's a consistent money maker.
RIP Star Wars (1977-2012), you had a good run.
It’s like they bought the Golden goose, and then immediately killed it for no reason.
The original writer for Force Awakens showed up to KK's office and asked "all right! What kind of adventure is Luke going on this time?"
Disney has done what I never thought would happen to me growing up, they have successfully made me dislike a movie franchise i once loved.
Lando was extremely emasculated in "Solo," also.
Worst franchise collapse ever.
The galactic starcruiser hotel was basically the prison from Andor and Disney were shocked when nobody wanted to pay enormous sums of cash to stay there.
Disney spurred on a propaganda campaign against old fans after TLJ. Fans arguing with one another is nothing new, but actors producers and directors getting involved was. And they were nasty about it.
