Fabulous performance! Bravo! I wish the editors had recorded all the curtain calls -- that is often the best part of the performance -- to see the audience appreciate a great artist and great performance and display their enthusiasm; to see the artist happily acknowedge them. Nonetheless the performance was exciting in itself and is a great introduction to a rarely performed work. I hope it makes its way into the mainstream repertoire
Fine Performance of Saint Saens's concerto. He wrote some of the most beautiful music ever written.
such a delightful concerto ,I always loved it and it is such a pleasure to hear a young generation perform it! For decades this piece was practically banned from the concert stage and I notice its making its come back.
Pianist is very good,no nonsense yet elegant and in command, so to speak. Orchestra is also great.
What a wonderful performance by so many talented young people. The last movement positively sparkles!
00:21 __ Allegro animoto
11:11 __ Andante
21:45 __ Molto allegro
how beautifull to see all these young musicians and what a musical level ! very good performance. The israel Philarmonic orchestra is preparing its own future in a very good way !
The kids are doing great...without overt displays from Mehta they play dynamically as written, he just keeps time and pretty much stays out of the way letting them have their say......a masterful collaboration as it should be. Thank you for a lovely concert.
Kids - you mean young gentlemen and ladies!
Béni sois tu Camille mille fois pour nous avoir laissé une musique aussi Belle ! ...
Very awesome interpretation of this famous "Egyptian" concerto, a rather late work by Camille Saint Saens.
Great to hear music long forgotten and rarely played. As rare as birds milk.
Not forgotten. Not rare!
a sheer delight and a lovely young orchestra to look at.
Great memories 😊
Bravo Sluzki! Bravo Mehta and Orchestra! I like the freshness and musicality of this performance.
Thank you for sharing this superb performance of this, the last of Saint-Saens' beautiful piano concerti- when I first started collecting recordings of the works of Saint-Saens the only way that you could get a recording of the 5th concerto was through special order, from one store in NYC! that was in the early 1960's. We have come a long way- so happy that there are many complete sets available and that young artists are learning these glorious works. Bravo and thank you!
French grace evident here in this marvelous work
The Violin concertino is quite moving. Love her!!
Excellent sound, very good soloist, lovely orchestra, delightful fun.Bravo
Young pianist play beautifully and look great!

... this is how heaven sounds!!!!
It never fails to amaze and delight me - the sheer number of world-class talent that are Israels' gift to the world! This is another fine example for the outstanding quality work of the Music schools in this country!
brilliant interpretation. many thanks young people
Bravo. Bravi. Brawo. I love those romantic themes in the first mov. You know how to play it. Plus for this great 3rd. mov - so vivid and expressive.
This concerto is famous for its slow movement, which has an Aegyptian flavour. He was composed during a travel of Saint-Saens in Egypt. Saint-Saens used to travel a lot in Notrth Africa; he died in Algiers.
Nevertheless, this concerto comes back to the traditional form in three movements after the more exploratory form of the fourth concerto. The extremen movements are rather conventional and the themes have no specific originality.
Personnally, I am sensitive to all five concertos of Saint saens, but in my mind the preferred ones are the second op. 22 and the fourth op. 44.
I actually really love the first movement of this concerto. While it lacks the exotic textures or "Egyptian" flavor of the second movement, I still think it's quite beautiful on its own, and I can imagine certain "African" nature - like antelope leaping in the hot sun, or fish jumping in the daytime, colorful birds, trees blowing in the breeze at sunset, or a fisherman playing a reed flute, etc., when I listen to it. Particularly the theme that first is introduced at 3:32 in this recording. To me, it's a wonderfully yearning melody. I think it's because of the high note that keeps getting repeated, while the bottom notes constantly change. It feels almost sublime when the chords and harmonies dreamily change under that same pattern/figure. That passage reminds me of a similar moment in his Piano Concerto #2, nearly halfway into the first movement also, when the orchestra melts away, and the piano begins a tinkling descending figure solo. The orchestra imperceptibly re-enters, adding color underneath the piano, which repeats that descending figure in various different keys and harmonies, before building to a climax. Either way, I can see Saint-Saens' 'formula' here, or as you say, his conventionality in writing these pieces. It would appear he followed a similar convention in both 1st movements of these respective concertos. Still, I think they are delightful to listen to (and quite demanding to perform well). I personally have learned/performed the 2nd concerto, and my sister has learned/performed the 5th. So I've heard these pieces in my home for many years :)
Wonderful young pianist...not familiar with his playing, but will certainly follow him in future! Mehta and his student orchestra give wonderful support in one of my favorite works by this composer.

Beautiful~as so colorful piece as the French composer~
Lo amo. Es tan hermoso!
yes!
Great .
bravo maestro
Magnifique!
00:21 __ Allegro animoto
11:11 __ Andante
21:45 __ Molto alleg
The pianist is so handsome 😍
Isaac H. Agreed
Does that make him play better?
Actually it seems to me that many classical musicians are good looking, but maybe it's just a coincidence.
Help send him to Julliard! www.gofundme.com/help-send-shay-to-juilliard
INFELIZMENTE AS MÃOS DO PIANISTA PERMANECEM OCULTAS.
Descending into the tomb of the Pharoahs...
21:30 Everybody with asthmatic crisis xd
It would be really essential to distribute to all the public, before the concert, tablets against cough !! LOL !!
It's really unbearable!
All these coughs 'break' the musical idea of the work ..
These coughs are present in many concerts and can also distract the musicians and the conductor ..
To follow ..!
Respect for the MUSIC , please !
This last concerto is much more classical in its form than the fourth, for instance. The exotism of the central movement is rather superficial. I must confess that I prefer the fourth one. This does not prevent me from loving this brillant and sensitive interpretation.
Terrific performance! But very, very inept camera work- at least if one has any interest in watching the action at the keyboard.
Great performance. Great piece. Awful camera work. Why show the pianist so we cannot see his hands?

That's the risk of playing such a well-known piece: this being a youth orchestra notwithstanding, you are going to be compared to the dozens of performances around. And for that, this is just a bit too rough around the edges.
It's true. At least is not number 2...
The pianist was amazing….The conductor I felt was in competition to the pianist….the orchestra was really good…the conductor and pianist were not on the same page……

A piano concert and we do barely see his hands playing.
Soloist cute, but only functional... he works well but... seemm to be mechanical
