Jarvi really is the master of this piece. Two great performances on You Tube, this one and at the UK proms.
"I gave everything to it I was able to give. What I have here accomplished, I will never achieve again."
That about sums up the crowning achievement of this great and prolific composer.
The second section of the first movement (start from 17:24 to 27:10) is the most touching and comforting one's heart. It is also my favorite of this work.

Ah those few bares with the four hands piano!!!! brings me to Heaven!
Too many performances try to do it with one pianist. Yes, the organ is the central attraction, but the piano adds a great deal.
It is truly glorious.
Applause from the audience was like nothing I'd ever seen -- such sincere gratitude for the orchestra, conductor and work resonated from all present in the concert hall .

My comprehension of French is shaky at best, but I believe I understand the gist of your comment. The four-hands piano section sounds wonderful, it is properly emphasized in the sound mix (not overwhelmed by the organ and strings), and -- for once -- we actually get to see the pianists!

I wonder why I've not come across this particular performance before? I coudg easily run out of superlatives. Brilliant to hear the organ taking centre stage , smiling at the dishevelled organist whi looked as though he'd been dragged through a hedge backwards and at the young man striking the cymbals which where almost as big as him. For me the slow art of the 1st movement far surpassed the vitality of the finale. And three cheers for Mr Putin, sorry, Jarvi, who put his all into it. Bravo everyone.

French great music in french great theatre. Proud to be french seeing that, and itvs not often....
The French are always proud to be French. Why on earth? To have killed one of the mildest and best Kings, having butchered people in Paris 1870, trigger off the two World Wars, to say nothing about Viêt Nam, Algeria &c. A very fine Frenchman, good friend of mine, told me:"My people is realy not very fine. You know what they say: God made France and considered it. And find it to beautiful in comparison with the other countries. As compensation, He made the French people." Nevertheless I have some very good French friends.

So many of these orchestra members are the same playing in the 2012 Prom at the Albert Hall. The piece is just as good, and they all look a little younger here....

L'acoustique est tellement bonne que l'on entends les gens tousser et c'était avant le covid, imaginé si le public avait juste avant été convié à un banquet géant de cassoulet et cela aurait été un concert pêteur, rhhhooooo la "lose" (in english)!!!
On devrait interdire de concert les tousseurs comme on interdit de stade les hooligans.
