This is the first time I have heard this concerto, what a delight. There is so much beautiful music out there and so little time to hear all of it. Bravo to Dmitry Shishkin and his amazing talent.
By far the best recording in recent memory of this intricate lyrical piece. Mr. Shiskin has been described by others as a pianist with "hands of steel" but that is not enough - his hands are titanium and the clarity of each note shines through both in the rapid passages as well as in the slower parts. He is already in top form in his musical skills! What the future will bring to us who will continue to hear his interpretations of piano pieces is mind boggling. BRAVO Dmitry.
@@VicenteMReyes-vs9nhAre you trying to be funny? Beautiful hands, long fingers are not necessarily the main characteristic of a good pianist. Not at all. And yet, it's nice to see beautiful hands of a pianist. That's all. Nothing else.
So much beauty and perfection! This is the best MANKIND has to offer. Too bad there is the other kind that insists on trying to destroy the rest of the world...
A standing ovation for a masterfully beautiful performance! I have never heard a better interpretation of this work. Thank you so very much for sharing.
All the necessary flash yet never excessive. Monsieur Camille was one of the great orchestrators of them all. The pianist understands pacing, too rare today. Only Darré served this music so well.
Commanding, you have a presence about you that embraces the beauty of music such as this as I am sure was Saint-Saens embraced by the spirit of Beauty at time lithe never for a moment not lovely when composing it. And to all of this, there you sit at the piano so humble in heart giving of your best to make this world a more wonderful place. I admire and respect you beyond words! God bless you, Dmitry!
It is a photo finish between who enjoyed this sensational performance more: Mr. Shishkin, Meastro Damev, and the Mariinsky Orchestra - or we who are privileged to hear it. Bravo!

I heard the Mariinsky Orchestra with the Mariinsky Ballet in Los Angeles a while ago. It sounded incredible--just an amazing blend that also is evident in this video.
Wow, I am so impressed by what I just witnessed. Technically, I didn't hear a single wrong note by Dmitry in that entire concerto! Lots of new and fascinating variations as well in his playing to make it so fresh and inspiring. As I look at Dmitry's hands as he plays, I am reminded of Rachmaninoff's own large hands that seemed to play effortlessly his own challenging pieces. Please come and play in Toronto sometime! Spacibo bolshoe!
Wow! This is an exemplary video that shows the capability of UA-cam as a music medium. With all the technical limitations of its format (mp4a/AAC audio and 720P video) this video is very entertaining. Piano sound is articulate yet smooth with the right amount of hall reverberation. Kudos to recording engineers. And of course bravi! to Mr. Shishikin, Maestro Damev and the Mariinsky Orquestra.
Wow! I've heard this concerto of Saint Saens dozens of times by various pianists and it's never been approached with the mastery displayed by this young man here. I actually feel like I have just now heard the first movement, in all its exquisite lyricism in the solo passages for the first time tonight. Indeed this is how the master Saint Saens must have intended that movement to be heard. In too many performances the First movement (so obviously inspired by Beethoven-- one of Saint Saens' great idols) sounds almost perfunctory-- a weaker set up for the increasingly interesting (or so I used to believe) further two movements culminating in the bravura finale movement that's so technically amazingly difficult to pull off well. Yet I was amazed: The first movement as heard here is just as exquisite as the whole concerto I now hear(!) when in the hands of a great master of the piano. so sensitive and so precise here with its lyrical solo passages, rubato allowed and encouraged--- Camille wearing his heart on his sleeve there.. All the notoriously difficult Tutti spots where the orchestra and pianist must play a section-concluding single chord at the end of a virtuoso piano run that characterize all five of this composer's concerti are handled with sophistication and precision here. The infamously notorious finale movement, performed here at breakneck speed manages to be gorgeous, nuanced, clear as a bell, and precise. Wow! I They just executed this as the masterpiece as it's rightfully supposed to be. This pianist is going far! Look out for Dmitry Shishkin!
I never tire of listening to Saint Saëns and his pieces keep me wanting more always in the best of ways. That's the first thing. The second thing is Shishkin, he is one, an absolutely brilliant pianist, and two, he is one of the hottest pianists out there (I would want to make more than just beautiful music with him). This is just a great video all around, combining two of my favourite topics, music and men...
Saint-Saens is the most underrated composer of all time. His concerti stand fair comparison with those of any Romantic -- yes, I mean Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Not Mendelssohn, so much, as he is probably a close second for being underrated. My criteria for underrating -- presence on programs, both in live concert-giving and radio playlists. Look at how many views this video has; a paltry 30,000 or so. There are bands doing covers of "Sweet Home Alabama" in their mothers' basements with similar view-numbers. Ridiculous.
Rubinstein has a great recording but I find myself always coming back to this one. The connection between orchestra, soloist and conductor was transcendent to say the least. They hit all their marks and not a blemish to be heard, at least by me.
