      Great! always remember if it rains you may have to slightly raise it to compensate for the extra water going in and occasionally you will have to unscrew the blue adapter and clean the screen where it can get occasionally clogged up. Probably only once every two to three weeks.

      Yeah basically the skimmer always does the top but I'll tell you something we learned if you use a net and you're staying in the middle of a pool and you go round and round with the net it will take everything on the bottom and spin it into a spot in the center and then you can pretty much get everything at once with either your a vacuum cleaner Or Annette depending on what kind of debris it is It seems everybody reports a little bit of sand it doesn't really bother us it's that small of an amount

    Oh I forget to mention . When you clean the basket. Look under the blue rim. Sometimes there’s bugs and oils and dust that will get trapped and you may need to wipe it off. I’m glad today I looked under the blue top. The rim was gross from the 6 kids who had sun block on. What came off was under the blue rim. Also I did take the guys advise on pant hose . Should of asked if I need to cut it so the bottom didn’t get caught in skimmer hose lol. I had to remove basket and cut the panty hose wife should of had knee high .:: great video and I’m sure it will help people and show that a simple thing like this will work wonders

      I’m still having problems at first it was going well I was so excited how the bugs were going directly into the skimmer. But then the pump wasn’t pumping so my neighbor put the other brown thing back on and removed the cap. And it started pumping again and working but then the skimmer won’t stay down it keeps popping up out of the water to cause the pump to make a strange noise again. I am truly beginning to feel like an idiot. I use to do all this with no problem and now maybe my age and three strokes have slowed my brain down. I don’t know how but I will conquer this. Thank you

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  Рік тому

      @Lederle104 we are not even sure why the skimmer would pop out. That is very odd. It has never happened to us. We are not sure what you mean by the brown thing. We think you should take the skimmer and parts sell it on eBay or locally at Faceboof market place and get you a Hayward skimmer. A lot less work once installed. Watch our Hayward skimmer video. If you can get someone to do a quick 20 minute set up. You will be happy.

  • @1USAUSA
    @1USAUSA 3 роки тому +5

    People looking to do this has to come to their REALIZATION that No matter how you decided to do this, whether you buy off-the-shelf skimmer or make your own watching DIY videos like these, YOU NEED STRONG SUCTION at the bottom of your skimmer. That's how any skimmers work; *enough SUCTION to pull water away from your pool.* If you don't have enough suction, then you need to either UPGRADE your main pool pump that can provide strong suction or buy a new and separate pump just for the SKIMMER. So, the skimmer will have strong suction to pull water all on its own. This is usually the issue people have with their skimmers. It's not that your skimmer is designed badly or broken.

  • @RooRooRay
    @RooRooRay 4 роки тому +1

    Great idea blocking that off, I probably won't block it off permanently as I have 2 kids, I'd worry about that suction, but I could definitely block it off when the pool isn't in use for that skimmer to do it's job, ours should be arriving tomorrow!
    Thanks!

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  4 роки тому +1

      I am not an expert but I don't think the skimmer would be harmful for the kids it's a great skimmer but I can't see it sucking anything over 13oz in there. Although you are the mom so you do what you feel is comfortable. I don't think you will want to keep removing it all the time. We shall see what you end up doing.

    The unit heats up fast and is super quiet. It looks fancy ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxl8Od2BvnGbn1ffwqsuFXW0QnmcZgMiVY and can be kept in the living room. It gets hot within a split second of turning on the unit. The build quality is exceptionally good and is safe to be around kids and pets. This one is super quiet and can be kept on while in office meetings, my wife loved it. It shows the temperature right on the unit which is very useful and adding a rotating feature helps to heat up the surrounding, so other people will not fight with you for heat. It is right as described in the description..!! Definitely recommend!!

  • @shaunieok
    @shaunieok 2 роки тому +1

    Awesome...If only Intex videos and manuals were as simple. I just got this skimmer for our Intex 16" Ultra and the manual isn't right...It doesn't talk about the caps, they included an addendum basically to describe the flow reduction adaptor. But as I look at yours and read more online, the black hat is the way to go, I think, unless as you point out this thing fills up and stops and if you have the black hat on ...nothing is flowing, might burn out the pump? Mine is sucking things in with the supplied adaptor, but I'll bet it gets way more suction with the black hat. I was going to cut the pool and use a "real" (Hayward) skimmer as so many have done....but this seems to do the trick! Great video!

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  2 роки тому

      Yes, we originally learned about the "black hat" from another Intex Pool Video way, way back when we were first learning about everything. Another viewer told us that we may be harming the pump by using the "black hat" but honestly we have had no trouble as of yet. We would not be able to keep our pool as clean with the supplied flow reduction adaptor (gray hat with the hole) Don't forget every now and then to take off the strainer hole basket and make sure no debris is trapped in there between it and the hose going to the pump. We wanted a Hayward Skimmer as well for better vacuuming options but we have always been too scared.

    How does it affect the pressure of your pump by leaving it blocked off all the time on that one outlet? I know when I hooked up my skimmer it caused my pressure to drop having the other side capped off.

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  4 роки тому +2

      It has not seemed to affect our pump at all by having the one Inlet capped off it provides better suction for the skimmer.
      If you take a look at the parts reference guide on page 6 of the pool manual it shows that part number 11 which is called the strainer hole plug does indeed go into one or the other inlets. If we were to remove the strainer hole plug our skimmer would not work anywhere near as powerful as it does.

    Where did you get the hat for your other inlet? I have a terrible 1200gph cartridge filter and it doesnt do very well with this skimmer for me. I tried upgrading to a sand filter but they're sold out everywhere.

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  4 роки тому

      For a pump, Try looking locally like Craigslist, Offer Up or Let Go because we sold our cartridge pump in the first few days online and then we purchased a nice sand pump but at only 2 months old my husband wanted to upgrade that too because my husband wanted a bigger one.
      There may be a gently used one out there. It doesn't have to be Intex but if it does you may get lucky finding one. Also, try the pool stores and make sure you go to the Google shopping tab when you are looking for pool pumps that way it pulls up all possibilities that you may not be seeing.
      The black hat came from the pool , although you can order them offline everywhere under the name strainer hole plug. The light gray one called a flow reduction adapter with the hole in it comes from the skimmer package. Some folks prefer to put less stress on their pump using the light gray one with the hole in it. We have not had any problem using the black hat since last July.

  • @omarabadi7326

    So I got the skimmer, set it up, my worries that the 12 inch sand filter wasn't strong enough are resolved. Its works great. One issue, I noticed, 2 days in a row now, when I wake up, the clear leaf catch canister on pump is half full with air. before, I didnt have a single drop of air. The air appears to be trickling down from the inlet that I used the hat stopper to block off. This skimmer came with a white rubber hat stopper that has a hole in it. I guess they want some flow to come down but mine is causing air. Should I use one of the black solid ones? Its possible the clamp got loose.

      1. Filter 2. It does not block it from filtering because we have the poolside skimmer that is attached to an open suction that has no black hat and that actually creates better suction for the skimmer by having the top hat on the left inlet.

It works but Have to let air out of pump frequently. I have intex 2500 gph cartridge pump with one suction blocked off on a 12’x36” bestway pool. I’ve ck hose for leaks is brand new Any ideas?

    • @MoverandShaker

      I am really not understanding why you are having the air in the pump problem. I am not too familiar with cartridge pumps but for our sand pump, you do have to burp the air out when you are doing any kind maintenance with the pump or attaching or detaching say the pool vac, but your skimmers white base always needs to be under the water level in order to be floating and working properly. If your adding any extra water, or it rains a lot or even if the sun is depleting water you always want to make sure that you keep that water basket under the water level.

      The skimmer runs when the pump runs so whatever your normal operating time is for the pump in your manual. Every now and then remove it and spray it off inside and out. lotions will get under the rim and sometimes a few pieces of debris will get stuck in the strainer hole basket.

    Ok I bought this thought it was a floating thing that catches and when I open box , it had everything . And in one night it cleaned the garbage that floated on top and then it even held the smallest things until filter got it. Now I planned to get a 3/4 hp pump for pool. We got the 12x24 and I just don’t think the pump that came with it cleans well and would use more energy to filter keeping it on at longer hours than a bigger pump . The way. This skimmer works I feel sorry for any creature that would be floating on the water . It already traps them when they get caught but more sucking power . And it was just 20 bucks at a pool store so it could be even cheaper on Amazon or a wall mart. But very worth it

      Congratulations everything sounds great yes there are little things about the pool that mean the most and the skimmer is definitely one of my favourite things about our pool. Keep in mind if you backwash or if it rains you make small heights and or lowering adjustments as needed.
      As far as the pump goes I completely understand we also took the pump that came with the pool and we sold it right away on offer up. A better pump makes all the difference in having a cleaner pool and a pump with better filtration that overall just makes perfect sense all the way around.

      This is our current pump pictured on this link > amzn.to/3yEifzC but you don't even need a 16" / 3000 GPH, your skimmer requires a minimum flow rate of 800 GPH, The pump we had a before was a 12"/1600 GPH pump and it still did a great job skimming but right now the 12" amzn.to/3e3FAmL is almost the same prices as the 16" so you might as well get the bigger one if you are thinking of upgrading. I'm afraid that I'm mixing up what parts came w the skimmer with maybe something else. I've tried looking up parts lists for this thing and don't see the hole plug (with a hole in it) anywhere. Obviously it's to decrease the water coming into a line...but when is that necessary? I'm usually great w the pool but this piece has me stumped!

    The black hats come with the pool. I keep the old ones cause it’s good to have a few extra. I use two to plug the extra hole on both the inside and outside of the pool. Then when it’s time to clean the pump filter, I turn off the pump and reach inside the pool and unscrew the plastic strainer outlet cover and put a plug there, then go to the inlet hole and reach inside the pool and unscrew that cap and put a plug there. Then you can unscrew the top of the pump and remove the filter and replace it with a clean one. Put the top back on the pump then remove the black hat plugs from the inlet and outlet before you turn the pump back on!

    I am assuming you can't use this with a cover on the pool. I keep mine covered most of the time because we have a lot of trees. also, mine tends to lean a little to one side and I have tried to adjust it to stay level but nothing seems to work. Not sure how to use this skimmer when the solar cover is on. Unless I disconnect the skimmer and only use it when I want to use the pool. seems like a pain in the butt.

The solar cover can always be used with a skimmer simply by folding it back a bit and yes it does get in the way. I am not sure if you know this, but we switched to the Hayward skimmer after 3 seasons. We have a video about it. We always loved the Intex skimmer but we finally switched. We sold ours on eBay. If the skimmer basket gets full and you only have 1 active suction line, your pump will lose prime. That's where the ball valve suggestion comes in, not necessary just an idea. I was in the inground pool construction industry for about 20 years and it's fun watching some of these videos just to see how the mfrs are designing the above ground pool equipment. One thing I have noticed, they use very cheap flex hoses. If you want a more durable hose, go to a pool store and get regular vacuum hose. It's way thicker. Oh very cool. Welcome Neighbor. No you put it in a bucket of WARM Water (like a Home Depot Bucket) and stir it until it dissolves as good as you can get it to then go around the pool in pour in it as you walk around. Generally, you'll need to add 1lb of cyanuric acid to raise the level by 10ppm per 10,000 gallons of water. It still won't dissolve so after you drop it all in, you have to go around the pool for like 20 to 30 minutes gently rubbing that remaining powder with a pool brush on a long pole. It takes a little time but you can swim in your pool within 20 to 30 minutes of adding cyanuric acid. Make sure you have the pump on when you add it so that it mixes in the water.

    • @MoverandShaker

      16 " 3000 GPH We used to have a 2000 GPH. BACKWASH CHECK HOSES FOR BLOCKAGE and check the small gray strainer basket on the inside of the pool because things do get stuck in there if you unscrew it.

    When I try blocking off the extra valve it seems like it puts too much pull on the pump and makes it sound different. I’m worried it’s going to wear the pump out if I kept it like that for too long. I tried the one with the hole and the regular black plug. Also seems to reduce the amount of water pushed back into the pool? But without blocking off that valve there’s barely any suction.

    • @MoverandShaker

      You do whatever makes you feel comfortable we've never run our pump without the skimmer. The strainer whole plug if you'll notice in the diagram is part of the assembly so it's meant to be in that valve.

      You are not going to get a lot of suction with the cartridge filter pump but they have three GPH levels so if you have the better model it would work o.k. as long as you install the black strainer hole plug as shown in the video and by the way The Intex skimmer requires an Intex Filter Pump with a minimum flow rate of 800 gallons per hour (3.0 m3/hr) so I think you are good.
