Just want to say thanks brother! Anyone down in FL fishing FOLLOOOOWWW THIS VIDEO. Im from CT down in Longboat Key florida fishing the beach. Followed this guide. Filled my 5 gal with pinfish. Caught a 9lb snook on my first live line. THIS IS BULLET PROOF. Caught on a 6'6" tigerlite ugly stick with a Penn battle II. 30lb braid / uni to uni / 50lb floro, 5/0 circle hook. BULLET PROOF.
Only tiny tid-bit of advice I'll also add. If you can't afford or do not have access to a cast net. Or you just plain out can't throw one properly, get a small SABIKI RIG! My cast netting attempts failed, went to the baitstore grabbed two sabikis and two dozen live shrimp. Ripped the shrimp into chunks the size of dimes and put them on the sabiki hooks. 10 pinfish in the pail in about 15 minutes. Again! SABIKI RIGS for bait if you can't use a cast net or have no luck with a cast net! Caught bait on the beach in Longboat and also the bay side of Longboat so they can be caught in open water. But every good fisherman knows bait hide upstream in bays and rivers. TIGHT LINES!! This guy got me my first snook and he'll get yours too!
@phytobedo Fishing well would you guess I went back tonight and landed a 34" snook. Nice scream on the drag, landed and safely revived. I could do this all night!
Fantastic video! THANKS! So simple and so effective. One magical post-dawn morning, many years ago, I caught a 47" snook right off the sand on the back side of Sanibel island, using a chartreuse feather jig tipped with a sand flea. It was an incredible experience. Next time I go after snook THIS is the technique. Fly- lining Live bait is so effective, no matter where or what you are fishing for.

Nice video on the Snook; Phytobedo, I grew up in Florida fishing for Snook in Miami and Naples. I live in Georgia now and fish for Stripers in the same way that fished for Snook in Florida. I saw your Bass video and then looked at this one. Have you ever considered doing a Florida Flood Gate Snook video. Bucktails or Mirolures, or even live bait> We use to catch our bait at the pier or with a cast net and haul them inshore to the Flood Gates. SNOOK ON. and Tarpon. or you can catch Bream on the fresh water side and throw them over into the Brackish water side. SNOOK ON! Anyway liked your video.
Thanks Gary! I’ve fished spillways for snook for years, but before I started filming. My brother and I used to throw topwater chuggers out in the foam. It was a blast! I just might have to give it a shot. Thanks for the comment!
Absolute best technique for catching them on hook and line. I would add night might be a bonus for activity & no sunburn but still catch the bait during the day.
Hey dude thanks for the tips! Just moved to Miami and caught my first snook after watching this last video last night! The method really helped land it!
Hi...im fishing in Florida thus July 2023. Are you using a Shimano Baitrunner reel with your technique. What size and what kind of flexibility on rod or what type of rod exactly for fish not to spit the circle hook out. I have fished Maine for Stripper bass with circle hooks and big Tsunami rod. I agree that this is the best tutorial I’ve seen literally! Steps 123--- easy, simple, and economic! 👍👍👍 One question: why needs to use 50+lb leader. Thanks 🙏
Headed to Indian rocks beach the first week of April, hoping this method will work out for me. Never really saltwater fished, but enjoy fresh water fishing up here in Michigan. Thanks
I caught my first snook about the size you have there on my last day of vacation at Turtle Beach 2 weeks ago. I'm going back in September I can not wait.
All awesome tips. Personally, 30lb braid & 50lb leader are a bit overkill, but to each their own. Also, bubble boxes are awesome and you can make them last A LOT longer if you keep them in the blister pack they're sold in. Just pop the tube off and put a hole in the plastic, run the tube through the hole and plug it back into the bubbler. There's even a slot in the package already for the clip, and a few videos on how to do this
Nice snook! Thanks for posting this...us Great Lakes anglers (especially steelhead anglers) are used to going as light as possible on leader line, most often under 10 lb test. Looks like it's the opposite with surf fishing...go heavy on leader, and somewhat lighter on main line. I was hoping your braid main line wasn't too crazy as casting with heavier test braid main line can be difficult. You can cast bait a country mile with lighter main line (I generally prefer to stay under 30-35 lb test braid for main line). Will 100% try your method out when I'm in SW FL next week!
@@phytobedo Mostly because of the time of year (mid Feb) we didn't catch any Snook. From what I've read and was told by some locals at bait shops, snook action doesn't pick up until March-April, so we were a little early, but caught a few other species while we were in SW FL, primarily saltwater catfish and some smaller species we caught surf fishing in Lovers Key (some rudderfish, etc.).

What IS wrong is when you keep a fish just for the heck of it and do nothing with it later on. I've even seen people catch (big) fish and just hurl them on the hot concrete to let them die and rot, just because that particular specie was preventing them from catching them the specie they were specifically looking for (aka eating their bate). Some even went as far as literally stumping the fish to death with their feet. Those are the assholes that need a good kick in the balls, for real.
Rookie question but how do I let the fish run with it before setting the hook with pressure? Just set the drag to the lightest possible or what? I used to set the hook instantly and now realized I was doing it all wrong. Thanks for the video
I usually keep the bail open and hold the line with my finger. When I feel a bite, I’ll let go of the line and let the fish run for at least 5-10 seconds. Then just wind tight. As long as you’re using a circle hook, 99% of the time, it won’t gut hook them.
Great video. I was listening when you said look for a beach with an inlet or pier, but is there anything specific to look for beyond that, birds, bait, rip currents? I'm not a saltwater guy, so sorry if it's not obvious
All of those things are good but not necessary. Snook often just cruise along the beach. They school up to spawn in the summer and really stack up near piers and inlets. Just get out there with some good old fashion trial and error until you find them 👍
This helps a lot! I’m going to be in coco beach in a few weeks gonna give this a shot!!! Also gonna try it here in Pensacola for some reds. Good video!
Excellent video, there are many videos out there, I believe this is one of the best, question, some people use 15 lbs braid with 20 lbs fluorocarbon and a #2 size circle hook, very light tackle.....your using 30 lbs braid and 50 lbs leader and a 5/0 circle hook, I understand snook and cut threw a leader like a knife, I'm going to try this type of fishing this summer and there not allot of work in the set up, like you were saying....but can you comment why the tackle is so different, one guy using a 5/0 hook and another guy using #2 thank you..
I’ve had them wear through 30lb leader. Even 50lb gets frayed up pretty badly after 1 fish with this technique. I use a 4/0 or 5/0 circle hook, because there are some big snook out there. Plus using a live croaker of this size only leaves a little hook exposed. This is not a technique I read about or saw online. This comes from many years of trial and error.
Thank you, perhaps I will go with a 4/0 , would that size hook be ok with a croaker only half that size ? If the bait was running small. A 4/0 would still work or kill the bait too quick ? Smaller bait drop the hook size or stick with 4/0 ? I appreciate your reply. Thank you again. Cory.
@@phytobedo thanks for the reply. I gave up on getti g a snook but u inspired me. 1 last question prob a stupid 1. But r u letting the live bait take line out a little at a time or just letting it take as much as it wants.
Finally got to the beach. Caught some pins but everytime i made a cast it would wind up against the beach and i couldnt keep tension. Any idea what i could be doing wrong. Great vid it made me want to snook

Desmond same here...live in Tampa and new to fising. The spots you mentioned.are good. Try Johns Pass, Picnic Island and Ballast Point Pier. I am gonna try this method along the Gulf beaches...St Pete Beach area.

The neighbor a few house away has green bait lights under his dock and my friend says there are snook in the canal. I have never caught a snook but think i'm gonna head over one night and try your method? Any advice on fishing that canal vs the surf besides the obvious more confined canal. Thank you again.
I live in Lake Worth in South FL. I've gone to the beach near the pier about 5 times in the past 2 weeks just blind casting my net early in the AM and have had absolutely 0 luck getting any bait. I've heard that this is a good beach for fishing so really surprised that I cannot find a single bait at all. Any tips?
That is a little surprising. Bait should really be coming in thick around this time of year. Lake Worth is a good snook beach as well. Maybe try this technique ua-cam.com/video/Px4g1VDEKMA/v-deo.html
@@phytobedo I think maybe I was going to the beach when it was pretty rough the past couple weeks but now that it seems more flat calm Ill try again. Do you find that snook fishing isn't good when it's rough swells?
Are you familiar with throwing a cast net properly? If not then thats prob your problem. You have to be able to throw it where it spreads out complexly or you are wasting your time. Might want to check out some YT vids showing proper techniques on throwing a castnet😎
@@jayjohnson9668 Yes I am very familiar and can throw a flat pancake each time with ease. Looking back on this comment though, I will say that when I first started trying this method in April/May 2021 I had 0 success and never caught any snook. However, in late June the bite really fired up and I was catching a ton of bait and huge snook every time I went to the beach. In this video he says any time of year works, but I really did not find that to be true, as the beach I went to was completely dead of anything until mid summer
Me and my buddy's would take a 2/6 plank down in marco island. At the bridge and walk the plank. Walked that jetty and catch snook all night. We did it all winter. That was in the late 90s early 2000s. Now it's all gone the a hurricane came and took out the cat walk. We had so much fun miss those nights.
Where do you find Atlantic Herring, crokers or sand perch that size from the beach? I've been fishing South Florida beach waters for 50 years and rarely found any bait that size in my cast net on the beach. I love using 8lb test and small gear during the Snook beach Spawn on those breeders. Its a hoot!

It's been terrible in Broward this year. I've been out a few times got one small one
No, lots of seaweed makes it nearly impossible. I’ve had it ruin several trips this year.
Outstanding advice, thank you.
Do you think there will be any good on the golf of Mexico side?
Not sure
Thanks for sharing this info. I know it's been a year but definitely very simple and straight to the point, I Appreciated it. New subscriber!!!
Thanks Gilbert, good luck!
Cory.
You can go smaller with smaller baits
What song is that playing at the beginning and end? Great video!
The snook song 🎵
Phytobedo Fishing haha
How far are you from St Pete beach? That looks like grand plaza hotel behind where your fishing
Would it better during outgoing tide or incoming tide?
Either is fine. I don’t have much luck at dead low tide though.
Great simple video! What size reel do you recommend?
Finally a video that teached me something. I might have missed it do u free line the the pin or do u cast it out and engage the bail
I leave the bail open and keep tension on the line with my finger
@@phytobedo thanks for the reply. I gave up on getti g a snook but u inspired me. 1 last question prob a stupid 1. But r u letting the live bait take line out a little at a time or just letting it take as much as it wants.
I’ll let it take as much as it wants
@@phytobedo thanks for the info. Im on west coast but im sure same will apply. Great vids. I love the true teaching vids.
Finally got to the beach. Caught some pins but everytime i made a cast it would wind up against the beach and i couldnt keep tension. Any idea what i could be doing wrong. Great vid it made me want to snook
Do you lock your reel as soon as you cast?
I keep the bail open and a finger on the line. I let the baitfish swim as freely as possible
What Fishing Pier is that
Will this technique work on the Florida pan handle??
If there are snook, it will
Are there good snook over down in the keys
I believe so
Hi, New sub here but just wanted to say thanks for a great video. I'm new to florida live in the Tampa area any idea where and for what I can fish from land, beach etc within a couple hours drives. I've tried fort desoto the skyway and st pete peir. Going to try them again with the technique shown in the video. Anyway Thanks thanks thanks.
Thank you Desmond👊.
I don’t know anything about Tampa, as I’m on the east coast, but I’m sure you can catch all the same fish over there. Check around with the locals, tackle shops, etc. if you have an Instagram account try to find some locals there too. I promise you the fish are there, you just have to figure them out!
Desmond same here...live in Tampa and new to fising. The spots you mentioned.are good. Try Johns Pass, Picnic Island and Ballast Point Pier. I am gonna try this method along the Gulf beaches...St Pete Beach area.
Thanks for the instruction! I’m going down to gulf shores Alabama at the end of July, think i could possible catch some down there???
Thanks Josh! I don’t know if they live there or not. I guess you’ll have to ask the locals.
You should go to the gulf state pier and there are tons of redfish and jack
Excellent, thanks for the tip!
Nice video! Thank you
What pier was that
Fun Video! Thanks Guys!!!
Excellent video thank you and Merry Christmas, I live in Hudson and have access to a canal at a friends house. The neighbor a few house away has green bait lights under his dock and my friend says there are snook in the canal. I have never caught a snook but think i'm gonna head over one night and try your method? Any advice on fishing that canal vs the surf besides the obvious more confined canal. Thank you again.
You might not catch croakers or sand perch in the canal, but any live bait should work.
@@phytobedo Thank you again, I will post my results.
What mic do you use for gopro audio?
On amazon, type Movo GM100. Make sure it fits your GoPro model.
What size is your mesh on the cast net?
Nice vid. I'm going to Dauphin Island in June.Do you think I'll catch them there? I seem to only catch shark, and monster specs there.
I’ve never been
I live in Lake Worth in South FL.
Yeah that makes it very hard to get bait when it’s rough.
Sounds awesome!
Any recommendation on what size my cats net should be
As big as your comfortable with, 6ft at least. Get a small mesh size too
is this in jup?
Is this in cocoa beach? Im planning a trip out there july 4th weekend any tips rods reels? Thanks in advance.
Not cocoa, a couple hours south. Any light saltwater setup will work, so long as it can cast out a big baitfish.
What are some of the recommended beaches i should try. Most beaches I've been to are too crowded
Go early...
Sorry I didn’t see this before. I agree with Thomas, go early. Also look for beaches that do not have lifeguards as less people use those beaches.
Anyone know if this is west coat or east coast of FL?
Awesome, I’ll try this technique.
👍👍👍
Where do you find Atlantic Herring, crokers or sand perch that size from the beach? I've been fishing South Florida beach waters for 50 years and rarely found any bait that size in my cast net on the beach. I love using 8lb test and small gear during the Snook beach Spawn on those breeders. Its a hoot!
I think it’s actually called an Atlantic threadfin. I’ve been seeing them from Ft Pierce to palm beach
@@phytobedo Juno pier?
Great video!
Love your video. Couldn't be clearer. Where are you at if I may ask???
Southeast Fl, this was Juno Beach
@@phytobedo i wasn't being nosey. My wife and I come down to Sebastian twice a year. Have never caught a snook, but will definitely try your technique in late May.
