- In this video, Jordan will walk you through how to use your cheap electronic drum-kit to trigger awesome sounding 3rd party drum software. Using an Alesis Nitro mesh kit as midi trigger within Pro Tools 2021, Jordan will show you Steven Slate 5 drum program and how to mix the drum samples using Waves Plugins.
I got those same Waves plugins they're pretty rad, subbed!🗽🎧📼
dude them 300 pound drums sound AMAZING great job!!
Thanks Hubert! The Steven Slate 5.5 drum program has some really good sounds to start with regardless of whatever electronic drum kit you use.
Sound very cool
Cool
Sounds really nice! I have a question, how is the Alesis Nitro Max on velocity dynamic range? I don't notice a lot of dynamic range. Everything sounds close to MIDI 127 velocity to me.
I'm interested in buying, but weary about this issue.
Hi great video. I just have 1 question. is it possible to map or add snare rim clicks/shots in ssd5.5? for alesis nitro mesh
Thanks. Yes it is possible. The nitro mesh snare has two trigger zones, which can be mapped to any two samples within SSD5.5. Here's a video explaining how to do this: ua-cam.com/video/oKbiLf_l194/v-deo.html
@@tapntuneproductions appreciate your response thank you you got my sub
what settings did yo used to get the Nitro to connect to the software?I have FLS 20 and don't know how to connect the drums to the plug in?
Hey. Make sure your Nitro module is connected to your PC or MAC via a USB 2.0 cable and turned on. In FL studio you want to confirm that your receiving midi from the module, which is under options>midi settings then you will see both input tab, and your Alesis nitro module should show up. Look below next to the controller type section and you should see the word "enable," with a bubble next to it, go ahead and select this, so that it turns green when checked. That should be it.
Hey man, I just bought one of these to trigger slate drums in reaper, but after tons of research I still can't get rid of input latency. Any suggestions?
Hey Jason, You might try adjusting the latency offset in reaper's preferences. Here's a video on how to do that. Hope this helps. ua-cam.com/video/TzS--D765Zw/v-deo.html
@@jordanyoung4869 Yeah I did all that haha. But I ended up splitting the audio from the drum module and using that while recording and turning down slate drums plugin until I go to play back the track. And now I have perfectly synced drums :)
Hi, Jordan. I'm wondering if this setup allows the hihat also to be in-between closed and open or just one of the two. Is it possible for example to open the hihat slowly before making a fill to get a sort of crescendo effect on the hihat?
Hi Tom, I have been experimenting with the hihat trigger, and the Alesis hihat will do open and closed hats fine with no problem ( plus the chick sound ), but if you want to do a "crescendo" then you really have to do some mapping in Steven Slate 5 to get the hi-hat to trigger a semi-open position like 2/5th's open. A better hihat trigger such as a roland hihat might solve the issue, but this is my best workaround.
I'm a drummer and I want to use my Alesis Nitro mesh kit with a drum plug in and my question is do you need to have a Daw to download a drum plugin? Thanks for the video
Hi Scotty g,
Technically most drum software will operate in standalone mode (toontrack's ezdrummer, superior drummer, Addictive drums, Getgood drums etc.) however Steven Slate 5 currently only works as a DAW plug-in to my knowledge.
@@tapntuneproductions well I wanted to try Steven slate five because there's a free version and I've never tried a plug in. So I downloaded Reaper and I downloaded ss5 but I'm still not exactly sure what I'm doing. So Superior drummer 3 if I decided to purchase it I would not need a d a w? Is that correct? Also I am very new to all of this but I find it quite fascinating and I want to thank you for the quick response!
@@scottyg5403 , Yes, Superior drummer will work in standalone mode without a DAW. All you have to do is download the software, connect up your Alesis Nitro mesh kit to your computer ( via USB) and then open up the Superior drummer application on your computer. Assuming you have an audio card ( i.e and audio interface) you can then route out the signals from Superior drummer to your headphone and speaker outputs allowing you to use those sounds instead of the stock Alesis ones. Does this make sense?
@@tapntuneproductions yes and I do have an audio interface from a recommendation to use Audacity. I have that app downloaded my computer. I've recorded some drums in audacity using my phone along with the Alesis Nitro kit. I got from the module to the interface and from the interface to the computer. You can hear the music and you can hear the drums and I believe I can actually mix it so the drums will blend with the music? Eventually I wanted to start a UA-cam channel to show the versatility of the Alesis kit. How is professional drummer for many years but now it's just a little Hobby and the electronic drums have opened up a whole new world which I love! When I say recorded music it was pre-recorded music from Spotify just different Tunes.
I’ve been using this same hardware and software, but been having what I assume are latency issues. Probably just need a better computer than MacBook I’ve been using. Cool stuff though!
Hey Phillip, yeah software monitoring will incur latency especially at higher buffer settings, which is why the lowest buffer setting ( 32/ 64 samples) is recommended. Also if you are using a thunderbolt equipped macbook, you may find that latency is non issue when using a thunderbolt audio interface as opposed to USB2. Just some food for thought.
I need Your help dude! I have the same Alesis and SSD5 but I cannot map the drum. Studio One already recognized Alesis but no each pad. How can I do?
Hi Javier, Have you tried mapping your pads ( each pad's corresponding midi channels) to the samples inside SSD5? Here's a link to help you get started. ua-cam.com/video/oKbiLf_l194/v-deo.html
