- for months i've been lusting for the KTM DUKE 790, ever since i laid eyes on it's prototype i've been fantasizing about riding and maybe even owning one.
reading and watching journalist's tests on it made me believe that this bike might be the one for me. on paper it had everything i ever wanted and it would probably suit my riding style better than any other bike on the market.
now i had the chance to ride it myself, not only ride it, but i had it for a whole hour and on my favorite roads, it couldn't get much better than this.
many thanks to the awesome dealership who was brave enough to lend it to me.
i have many things to say about this bike especialy compared to my own bike, suzuki gsx-s750, so feel free to ask me questions in the comment section and i'll try to answer you all.
Great riding. You were very trusting of those stock tires! I like your balanced review of the bike in the comments.
MotoGuzziMoto i was just as surprised as you were with those stock tires, but they did a wonderful job, realy no complains. But yes, premium tyres have better profile that allows better fall into conrners but the stock tyres gives enough grip for road use that it would be a waste of money to buy more sporty ones.
@@twistyjoe6751 Personally I put more sporty tyres on my 790 and it massively improved the handling. Made the bike feel about 10kg lighter just through how much easier it turns
Right now I ride a ktm duke 690 which I think is a decent bike. I’m getting ready to upgrade so I’m thinking about the gsx s750 or the duke 790. What’s your honest opinion on both these bike. Me personally, I love the looks of the gsx s750 but not really loving the look of the duke.
What a fantastic stretch of tarmac!
Where is that?
Like you I never buy a 1st gen of anything, as the faults need to be ironed out. Hopefully the anticipated spicier R model should address this.
Nice riding by the way ;-)
David Murphy thanks. And Yes i've been blessed with living next to some very nice twisty roads :)
Hi! I'm looking for middle a weight naked bike. My choices are the gsxs 750, Kawasaki z900 and the duke 790... I'm looking something fun to ride, but also smooth and quite confortable. I will use it for commuting and some rides in the weekend. I really like the gsxs, the styling, sound and the price (there is also the yugen model that has already a Titanium sc project exhaust, smaller plate thing, led indicators and others accessories for just 200-300€ more) But the only thing that does not convince me is that all the reviews say that in the low rpm the gsxs doesnt have much power and torque, and I usally dont rev that much the motor, is my riding style, i like a little punch when I open the throttle and I usally dont ride really aggressive (i come from a drz400sm). The z900 have more punch down low, but i dont love the z900 as the gsxs and also It doesnt sound that good even with an exhaust... The 790 can be a good choise but I dont like that the motor runs a little hot and I have in my mind the japanese reliability thing... Do you have any advice? The gsxs is really that flat down in the rpm? Thanks!
I dont think that the gsxs has a lack of grunt in the low rpms, yes it has less than the duke but it has enough, more than enough for what you or most of us need. Overall if im reading you right, i think the gsxs would be the right choice for you.
@@twistyjoe6751 thaks! Maybe I will test ride those bikes 👌🏻
About oil consumption how is the gsxs? And what about the quality of the materials over the time? Any rust ecc?
gsxs isn't flat down in the rpm, z900 and mt09 are too agressive
Very nice motorcycle, but I didn't like how hot the engine is to the legs at red fires...
i don't remember noticing an unusual heat coming from the engine even though it was a hot day that day. but this is one of the things that can be better noticed while riding slower so i didn't have the chance.
🤣🤣 yes just why I sold in two months my KTM
What bike do you prefer the gsxs 750 or duke 790 :)
DorianColeman it's very hard to decide. Basicly, these two bikes do the same job, have almost the same power but deliver it very differently and both complement my riding style and the roads i ride.
The gsxs is a lot smoother and more friendly to use and the duke is moore aggressive and exciting. the duke's engine and electronics are realy awesome, the gsxs smoothness, stability and brakes are realy great. So it depends on what you prefer. i'm just not sure these differenses worth the extra money that the duke costs.
Well the 790 sure looks evil and great, i have the 390 and its pretty fun. I think you need to own both 750 and 790 if you have the money. Thanks for the answer, I Appreciate It :)
Cooles Video, hab dich mal abonniert, hab nen deutsch/englischen motovlog in melbourne australien am Laufen:)
SUZUKI GSX - S 750 or KTM DUKE 790 ? which one is better for you and why?
I think the duke is better for me but not in its current form. It needs more refinement before it becomes the obvious choice for me. I would chose it over the gsxs mainly because of its engine and brakes.
@@twistyjoe6751 Thanks for the answer , blessings Bro :)

So are you buying one?
I do want one, its just that i think its not the right time to buy one. maybe next year when the bike has been well tested by many riders and the factory fixxes its bugs, wich it has some.
What bugs are there?
first of all, in general it's an absolutely great beast of a bike and i loved it. but riding it this only one time i noticed few things that may only be a specific glitch on that particular bike or might be a thing to be monitored by the manufacturer. the first thing was the quick shifter and auto blipper, though they were smooth as butter there was a problem with third gear, it had a glitch in it that felt like it was slipping or something like that, it surprised and scared me everytime it happened. the other very important thing was an oil leak from the engine seals that got my right foot all soaked up, the bike was new so that is something to be worried about.
the rear suspention were a bit out of shape when i started pushing it hard so if i bought this bike i would probably change it.
also the riding position is a bit strange, it's comfortable and it's fine 90% of the time but when braking and accelerating hard it was difficult to hang on to the bike, not so many anchoring points but i guess it is something the rider can get used to.
Twisty Joe I did notice the last part where it throws you off everytime. Very jerky or snatchy throttle.
For test riding it was fun but to own and go for long rides, it'll drain you all over. I've heard that the rain mode wasn't that bad. I didnt try it myself.
What's the top speed?
i wasn't trying to reach the top speed but at some point i saw 220 km/h on the dash. i believe it can not do much more, maybe another 10 km/h, not more.
but this bike is not about the top speed, it's about how it gets you there :)
