Flair, the double barrel 10 is a Damascus shotgun. they're made by twisting multiple pieces of flat steel around a round bar. the only problem with that is that there can be voids between the layers or steel which can cause the barrel to literally fly apart when you shoot it. Damascus barrels were designed to shoot black powder, not the smokeless we use today and it is *HIGHLY* unsafe to shoot the smokeless shells through it, even if they're only trap loads.

Damn that Remington 1889. Careful with that one my friends. From the looks of it and the era it was built... that is is Damascus steel or Vulcan steel. Its folded/twisted steel which over time the layers of steel can separate and cause a weak point in the steel. Which means it could detonate when firing. Just a pre-warning is all.
Flair he is very right take that 10G to a gunsmith before you do anymore shooting and don't use modern 10g in it.
ABSOLUTELY!!! Clean the barrel then look thru it toward the light. If Damascus, you can see the spiral pattern where the welds do not Pentwater completely. BLACK POWDER SHELLS ONLY!!
I was just going to say the same thing
It also might not be rated for modern loads. I know some of the older shotguns from the 1800’s used brass shells and black powder. Which has way less chamber pressure.
@@snowleaperd1313 Well here is the deal on that. You can shoot modern shells out of these guns if inspected for any micro cracks and separation. HOWEVER, that being said. I would never ever suggest using any high brass loads and or slugs out of these for previous stated reasons. There has been discussion about a work around using adapters going from 10 gauge down to 20 gauge which in that case the pressures would be more on target. Also given that said. Most of the antique guns like these I own are either wall hangers OR I reload my own shells at low powder charge.

Wouldn’t put modern smokeless powder rounds through that 10ga, Good way to make a pipe bomb. The twisted Damascus steel barrels were made for black powder rounds which has a lower chamber pressure than modern stuff.

A Turkish mouser is a German infintry gun
Used during World War II
Nope. The name kinda give it away. The Turkish mauser was made by the mauser company pre ww2 or in the interwar period. They made multiple runs with modifications made along the way.

@@donniehadon280 the Germans made the gun for export they did not use it.

No, the Turkish mausers most commonly found in the US (model 38 k. kale) were made just before and during ww2 in turkey from parts made in both Turkey and Germany. Turkey itself didn’t actually fight in WW2 so most of these rifles didn’t see any action. Check out turkmauser.com if you’re thinking about getting one, it’s a pretty good resource

I know this is an older vid, but be careful shooting modern ammo in the old 10 gauge, looks like it might have Damascus barrels which might not be up to the job of handling modern cartridge pressures especially if the barrel is pitted 👍
20:33 “they did all these crazy designs on the barrel”.....
correct me if I’m wrong but it’s a Damascus barrel, pretty common in older side-by-sides.. I think....
If it's damascus, might be worth a little more than he thinks.
He doesn’t have all the guns gold tho...
Yeah, my old double barrel is like that. It's not Damascus, it's just how they made the barrels. It's like a coil of steel I guess
That sound when flair bends over to get the watermelon is priceless

When

I think 24.6 or up
The “crazy designs” on the shotgun are the layers of different steel it’s called Damascus. Old Damascus barreled shotguns usually should never have modern full power loads shot through them. Only shoot low power loads so you don’t blow up the gun
The cringe is strong with this video.
Lol cook guns nice you got the good guns I like ak47
I was thinking the same thing.
I have several side by sides. I am a huge fan of them. I love that 10 gauge but it belongs on the mantle, not the gun range. Damascus is to dangerous to shoot.
Your a big googler guy at yeah really
2:42 with the 9 mill AR it usually depends on the state you are in but most if not all states would not consider it a handgun because of the length of the barrel, the firing speed, the stock, etc;
That's a 9 mill high point rifle not a AR
Flair, if you wanna try a unique and rare gun I suggest the “punt gun” the much bigger brother of of the goose gun you just bought.
A better option would be the Mossberg Model 55, the actual “Goose Gun.” There is even a 10 gauge model known as the “Super Goose.” I use mine for opening day of goose season each year. The 36” barrel makes things interesting from a kayak!

@@mrpibbtrrnt4766 Inner Ordinance, they are an american manufacturer of AK platform rifles, but they use cast trunions which are notorious for cracking and causing rifles to basically explode.
The trunion, specifically the front trunion, is akin to the keystone for an AK rifle. Its the peice of metal that the barrel is pressed into and rivited to the receiver. It also has the locking lugs responsible for headspacing. An AK should be made with a forged trunion in order to handle the stress, sometimes you can get away with a milled trunion if its been hest treated properly but simply due to the physical properties of cast metal means cast trunions are garbage for an AK.

Mauser is a weapons manufacterer in Germany. It was founded in 1811. Mauser developed an extremly well functioning bolt action system, for example take a look at the K98.. Three things about Damascus barrels and old shotguns 1 DO Not attempt to fire modern smokeless ammo, first because the old guns are usually chambered for 2/916 inch shells not 2/34 the old shells are rarely available in the states, 2 black powder only and no steel shot as smokeless powder generates too much pressure as does steel shot, 3 the Damascus manufacturing method involves wrapping strips of steel around an iron mandrel and forge welding them together, then drilling out the mandrel, in poorer quality guns these welds, given the passage of time and the corrosive property of black powder should be somewhat suspect. There is a company that makes black powder shotshells under the brand name of black dawg ( not to be confused with black cloud steel shells) but unless a gun store sells a lot of cowboy shooting supplies they might be hard to find. One further caution if the gun is a muzzle loader take the ramrod if present a long dowel if it's not and run it down the barrels make a pencil mark around the rod, take the rod and lay it down next to the barrels of the rod goes all the way down the length of the barrels and meets the pencil mark you are good if the pencil mark is about two inches above the muzzle the gun is loaded. Many of the old guns are found this way as they were kept this way to take care of predators on the farm, these guns should have their hammer faces checked as well as the nipples as percussion caps may have corroded onto the cupped hammer faces or nipples causing a hazardous condition. I learned this lesson the hard way when I was a kid a friend of mines father had purchased an old muzzle loader shotgun at a farm sale he brought it home and hung it in his office, I was at the house a few days later and my buddy was showing me the gun the in the kitchen fortunately he was standing by a sliding glass door which was open he threw the gun to his shoulder cocked both hammers and pulled the trigger the gun fired blowing out the screen, again fortunately there was no one in the yard and beyond the yard was nothing but miles of cornfields the look on his face was priceless I took the gun from him into the yard and fired the other barrel scaring the heck out of some chickens but no further damage was done. His father made him pay for new screens and I never handle a muzzle loader without checking it for those conditions it is Germain to note that in the U.S. About 60 people a year are killed by exploring civil war munitions and in Europe and Great Britain that toll is much higher due to unexploded ordinance going back to Napoleans day.
