It is quite easy overall, requiring mostly patienty and cardboard knife. The "self cleaning" in this case is unuseful. It only results in making it more expensive to clean. The tumble dryer manufacturers just want to make a profit. The advantage of the lid is that it can be then removed easily, and the space can be accesible.
