After 9/11, there was a huge concert held to show that we, as Americans, were not defeated and were resilient. U2 was asked to play. When they played “It’s a Beautiful Day” people were in tears.if you haven’t heard that song I would suggest it to you
'One', 'With Or Without You', 'Where The Streets Have No Name', 'The Fly', 'Pride', 'New Years Day', 'Beautiful Day'......... Best band since The Beatles.
U2 are a hugely successful rock band from Dublin, Ireland. Comprising Bono (vocals), the Edge (guitar), Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen Jr (drums). They emerged in the early 80's and grew gradually more successful until by the mid 80's they had become well established and were one of the highlights of the 1985 live aid concert. The album this song comes from 'The Joshua Tree' was released in 1987 and was a worldwide number 1 and probably their most successful. They have gone in and out of fashion as is the way with bands that endure for such a long time. Some of my favourite early songs include - 'Into the heart', 'Out of control', 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' (live from Red Rocks is well worth a look!), 'Two hearts beat as one', 'A sort of homecoming' and 'Pride (in the name of love)'. I'm sure someone will recommend some of the later stuff but the early ones tend to get overlooked. Cheers.
Their music at first was very tied up in the Irish "troubles" (the fight to have Northern Ireland, part of the UK, rejoin with the Irish Republic, the rest of the island). It was often very violent, hence songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday. Eventually a settlement was negotiated and U2 started to write songs with a broader appeal, such as in this album and subsequent ones.
@@MDreeezyThis is an Irish band. As it happens, my favourite rock band of all time: Thin Lizzy also originated in Ireland. It would be magic to hear you react to "Suicide" (album version from 1975). You will not regret it buddy! 😉
Bono's real name is Paul Hewitt. He got the nickname Bono from "bono voce" (good voice) in Latin, when he was in school. He has a daughter, Eve Hewitt, who is an interesting actress. He is also known world-wide for his philanthropic efforts.
@@stuBdocIn fact, Bono's real name is Paul Hewson. His daughter is Eve Hewson. His son, Elijah Hewson, is the lead vocalist and guitarist in the rock band Inhaler.
U2, one of the biggest Rock Groups of the last 40 years. 1987 when they recorded this video is just when they were blowing up on a huge scale. They filmed this video guerrilla style, 2 vans, the band and a few cameras, unannounced to avoid crowds. they even had the playback track on a boombox being pushed by a supermarket cart they found nearby!. At the end of the video the guy with the glasses (Adam Clayton, Bass player, party animal of the group at that time), gets in a cab to go party for real leaving the rest to finish the video!
Longtime U2 fan, and this is one of my most favorite songs, nice pick for St Pat's weekend! They have been one of the biggest rock bands out there since the 80s. Great rabbit hole to fall into - Mysterious Ways, With or Without You, Where The Streets Have No Name, Desire...so many awesome songs.
One of my most favorite bands! They are from Ireland and write about socially important events. I love the sound, but the lyrics are what it's all about with U2 songs. If this is the only group you do it for, I strongly encourage you to research the event that each song is about before you listen to the song. You'll get so much more out of your first listen that way! Imo, you're doing a very good job with your reactions. : )
U2 are one of the bands that really matter. They've been together for ages and just finished a residency in Vegas. They play all types of music, their ballads are iconic. Check out: With or Without You, Pride (In the Name of Love), One, Vertigo, Zoo Station, She Moves in Mysterious Ways, Every Breaking Wave (studio cut, the video is very distracting), New Years Day... that can get you started. They are amazing!
They just completed a run as the first resident musical act at The Sphere in Las Vegas! If you are not familiar with that venue, you really should check it out.
The next album after this one, called Achtung Baby (it was recorded in Germany) was I think their crowning achievement, and very avant garde at the time (1991). Every song is outstanding, with new sounds for the band and music generally. My personal fave is Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, but there's many others. The other really outstanding song on The Joshua Tree is Where the Streets Have No Name. The album title and some of the subject matter relates to their first visit to the American Southwest deserts.
They definitely are not all that mellow tone, but a lot of the hits are. I recommend the live version of Until the End of the World from ZooTV on their youtube channel
Love U2. Bono writes and sings such impactful lyrics. The Edge, who was influenced by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, is an awesome guitarist. Their music is truly amazing.
First 20 years of U2 is a proper rabbit hole. They changed direction more or less with every album. They would change their sound and image. I can’t think of many bands that mixed it up as much as they did in their first 20 years. In the 90’s they were heavily influenced by dance music , the 90’s was a proper experimental era for them Try in year order I Will Follow Sunday Bloody Sunday New Years Day Pride Bad With or without you Where the streets have no name Desire Angel of Harlem The Fly Mysterious ways Even better then the real thing One Lemon Numb Stay Discotheque Mofo Sweetest thing Beautiful day Stuck in a moment Elevation Vertigo

This is a very spiritual song. As a band, and Bono as a songwriter, probably write more deeply meaningful and spiritual songs (without being religious) than any other band I’m familiar with.
The trouble with U2 is they need old style stereo equipment to be appreciated. Quality CD player or Blue Ray players accepted.... ..digital does NOT reproduce the sonics , feel and excitement of U2's music. If you use ear phones, then you lose at least another 20% of the sound . EAR BUDS ??? Dont waste my time or Your time. If you want to hear U2 and many other great bands..... then spend some money on quality sound equipment.. ...which is often no more expensive than top end ear phones and ear buds. 2nd hand Leak 20 valve amp , circa 1950 to 1960's......more volume than $50,000 worth of digital amp and clearer to plus much more authentic accurate music reproduction......and only about $1,000. AND......being a valve amp it lasts FOREVER !!! Valve blows......about $25 to replace. Transformer blows......about $300 to replace but should last at least 10 years and maybe 30 years. Re wiring.....about $800 every 10 years or so. Thats it......nothing else to replace or fix except the housing / box. Back yarders often build their own valve amp in an old sewing machine cradle / box......any strong deck or cradle will do. Your new digital or solid state amp .....wont last 10 years unless you never use it.....first time it plays up, you throw it away because it cant be fixed cheaper than buying the new one. lol

U2 Where the Streets Have No Name... Video. Shot in downtown LA on top of a liquor store for the people.

Exactly the right answer
Bono: vocals; The Edge: guitar; Larry Mullen Jr: drums; and Adam Clayton: bass.
Thank you sir 🫡

Pride In The Name Of Love celebrates those who make sacrifices like Jesus and Martin Luther King Jr. It's amazing, especially the live version.

Lead singer is named Bono.
It’s a Beautiful Day should be your next song.
They are Irish, they have done some good songs, a good (and loud) live band and they had a big following around the world and sold a lot of albums.
I'm not sure about the guitarist, but the singer is Bono and gosh, he looks so young in this video.
27 years
This and Where the Streets Have No Name. Beautiful songs about God, I think.

Check out Till the End of the World from Achtung Baby, with lyrics representing Jesus talking to Judas. Very heavy lyrically and musically!
Check out "Pride(in the name of love) Has to do with the assassination of MLK.
I'd start from the beginning with any artist. The song goes with the video, so that's cool here.
U2 is from Ireland
Was it Songs of Innocence you're referring to at the beginning of your video?
Didn't ITunes automatically download a U2 album to everyone for free?
Maybe it was that!
@MDreeezy yeah, ppl were a lil' pissed because they think U2 sold out, but I ended up liking many of the songs.
