      That is a great point. No one seems to remember that. Even his dad told him not to go to Mercedes. If he can’t be given credit for anything else he has to be given credit for seeing an opportunity that no one else saw which led to 7 world championships.

    • @djoetma
      @djoetma Рік тому +1

      Well, thing is though that people who actually were able to think about this, knew that it made sense. Mercedes is a big manufacturer who obviously was going to succeed with for a huge part the Honda infrastructure that made Brawn GP world champion and now with all the resources in the world. McLaren was on the decline. They didn't even upgrade their windtunnel anymore and they hadn't build a championship contender and Whitmarsh also didn't like Lewis, never did, even when Lewis was coming up. He fired Hamilton in F3 even. And then in F1 he told Hamilton he had to take a pay cut while giving Button a raise. In the end it was really easy to make that choice. It was mostly the audience and media who saw McLaren as this top team. And they kept believing in that idea up until the started failing with Renault, making at least some people understand that the problem wasn't Honda (despite being behind with their engine, but McLaren knew that and even asked Honda to come in a year earlier).

      Don’t even have to look far.
      Max, Fernando, Sainz, Gasly, Lance, Perez. These drivers have an off day you won’t hear the end of it. They say something in the case of Max and Fernando, it’s “OMG it’s so blasphemous😒”meanwhile it can just be the blatant truth.
      Lance, ran with the narrative he doesn’t like F1 and only stopped with that narrative when they saw the work he put in to drive in Bahrain.
      Sainz has an off day, he’s just not as good.
      Lewis says something it’s “you can understand the frustration, it’s okay to say somethings when things aren’t going the right way”
      Lewis has an off day it’s or crashes like practice it’s “ it’s normal to not always be perfect” (same with George)
      Where is the same courtesy when it’s other drivers? Where is trying to understand the drivers thought process when it’s others? Nonexistent that’s where all that is.

    I think Sir Lewis should move to Ferrari as his input would be invaluable in developing a consistent race, world championship-winning car. Also, don't forget the leadership, race strategy, and role model impact he could have at Global Ferrari. Considering his focus on diversity, opport and inclusion, kids of 5 don't go wow at Mercedes, or buy toy Mercedes, they do all of that for Ferrari. I hope he goes at least for the next 3 seasons. Either way, good luck to him.

    • @LumiBoy97

      Thank you for mentioning his input. I think people assume that a car is just prepared for Lewis and don’t realize how much of his input went into making those championship winning cars. Even with last year’s car, Will Buxton mentioned how Lewis was doing the work to improve the car while George was winning points. The question also has to be whether something has changed with the arrival of George that Lewis feels that he’s not being listened to anymore.

    I agree there POSSIBILY could be 4 teams fighting for pole, but if that upgrade to Mercedes isn't a great start at Monaco to test and get comfortable as a Merc fan I'm kind of on the fence and going in cautious ly optimistic but don't count out Alpine...I just have a weird feeling if something isn't right with the Merc upgrade and Lewis and George don't get comfortable immediately which Monaco demands I really could see a surprise Alpine pole for some reason, there's drama surrounding the team right now and performance but when you truly look at it Alpine has made advances and had this whole Aston out of nowhere came along they would be head and shoulders best of the rest. They are bringing a new floor supposedly and it seems every upgrade Alpine has brought in this new era has actually worked and brought lap time and I just have this feeling I could see Gasly or Ocon putting it on pole, they have great down force, they're slippery, not the best nor more powerful PU but this is a circuit where PU power really doesnt factor, so to see Alpine pull out a quick pole lap wouldn't surprise me one bit as weird as that is to say. I'm not in the club of thinking Aston is going to put it on pole with Alonso, their Quali pace isn't great it's the race usually where they shine because he's a master of tyre deg. and just getting that car in the right window and knowing when to push and when to lay back hold position but I don't see him putting in this banger of a lap and getting pole I'm thinking more P4

    It’s really sad to see modern commentators of F1 clearly taking sides about the sport. When Mercedes was winning everything because they clearly had a colossal advantage nobody never suggested to put another driver like Max to see if Lewis was really the best or he just had the best ever car of the era. Now that he’s NOT “performing” anymore they change completely. Please don’t take me wrong, I’m not saying Lewis isn’t a great driver although I believe no matter how many titles he collected he will never be as good as Niki or the all time best Senna I.M.O, as a F1 enthusiast for more than 30 years is really sad to see a full panel of people just supporting one team and one driver or in the case of the SkyF1 podcast just glorifying only the British drivers. Naomi’s viewpoint around 38:00 or so, about “overdriving” and ted feeling like it’s not he’s overdriving but he’s being phenomenal with an inferior car, her attitude here is why she was never a successful driver, Charles is doing the absolute right thing even if he crashes sometimes, but then on the contrary, I see her logic and at the end of the day, it is important charles finishes these races, but I agree with ted and it shouldn’t be characterised as overdriving because that’s kinda a different thing but I can’t explain it. Charles ain’t overdriving, ie pushing beyond what he can control because of pressure or whatever, it’s that the car is so difficult at that level it is just a super hard car to drive and mistakes are inevitable, the mistakes aren’t coming from “overdriving” though, they ain’t coming from pressure or whatever, it’s just so difficult and unpredictable the mistakes are inevitable.
    Does that make sense? Ted is right here. There is a difference.

He would have the experience and the er... courage... to say on the radio "No that doesn't make sense, why are we doing that?" and might be more likely to force Ferrari's hand when it comes to proper strategy. I think Lewis would either need a whole new race engineer than the ones currently at Ferrari, preferably Bono but I doubt Bono will leave to join Lewis. Charles Leclerc really isn't that good. He used to be one of the prospects coming out of junior formula, but he's like Hulkenberg. He simply didn't turn out to be the next champion. Fast on his day, but makes too many mistakes. Of that generation, Verstappen, and maybe Norris and maybe even Ocon (took the fight to Perez as a rookie, who knows what he can do in a good car) and definitely Russell (destroyed Norris and Albon in mostly equal cars in F2) are the big talents.
    So thát's the reason Ferrari might want Hamilton. He's a proven top-driver and doesn't have a contract. But the question is why he should do it. I didn't hear anything about Ferrari getting their technical staff in order after Binotto left. And Vasseur is massively overrated as a teamboss. He was fine for a junior class team, but at Renault and Alfa he simply didn't impress, far from it. He could've made Sauber into Honda F1 if he had the chops to actually build an infrastructure. So the fact Ferrari hired him to rebuild and line out that team is a joke.
    Btw, Honda with Aston Martin? Hopefully the Silverstone based team will stop the sponsordeal with Aston Martin then right? PR wise this would be the dumbest choice ever for Honda to partner with Aston Martin. The road car company gets all the credit already, despite being just a sponsor, and when Honda worked with Red Bull despite the big logo's on the car, no one talked about Honda as part of the team while they were officially part of it. Red Bull was the team that was winning, not Red Bull - Honda. The Honda brand simply isn't strong enough to keep being mentioned next to Aston Martin.
