Lewis has won more than his fair share. Let the new breed have some success for once. And Alonso deserves some wins for all this years he suffered in under performing cars
Toto, 2022. "we will put the where we can see it every day." I believe that he was refering to it being situated somwhere in the factory as a reminder of what not to do, rather than back on circuit in 2023.....
If Mercedes will need several years to catch up with RB, would it be worthwhile for them to hold on to Hamilton? His demands for a new contract is astronomical. Russell wil be serious competition in the coming years and we all know how much of a teamplayer Hamilton is when that happens. It might be for the best to just go for Lando Norris at the end of the season.
Looks like Alonso could still be driving at 44/45 years old at this rate so no reason to think Hamilton couldn't drive well into his 40's. He potentially still has 5+ more seasons left, that's longer than many drivers whole career.
i personally believe that numbers don't lie. if the cfd and the wind tunnel models are showing promising performance then it is worth pursuing the current concept. lets not forget that the merc engineers have done a very good job in bringing the porpoising issues under control at least at the last race. they now have a stable platform to develop. I personally do not believe that making a u-turn at this stage is the right thing to do. if their simulations are "really" indicating that the current concept can be as fast or faster than the redbull then it makes more sense to find a way to unleash that potential rather than starting afresh.
you might be right, but what if it just takes too long to get the ultimate performance? Maybe there are some parallels with Honda, with how long it took them to get their engine right?
Great point. Additionally, 7 other teams have followed the RB sidepod concept and only 1 is seemingly better than MB this year. This suggests there's more to this RB performance than mainly side-pods else, MB would be toward the back of the field. The floor and/or front end perhaps seeing as the majority of the rest of AM comes from MB.
Enjoyed listening to this. Martin Brundle is maybe Sky F1's main asset in my opinion. When he talks, you listen. It's structured, knowledgeable and balanced. In comparison, Jess McFadyen just talked too much in what I felt was an unstructured way and left me wondering what she has said. No offense but sometimes, less is more.
Agree. If not for Martin I would stop watching/listening. Repeating back observations doesn’t add and value. The F1 supporter base aren’t interested in babble, we like discussion around the facts
The whole Mercedes mantra as well as Lewis Hamiltons about about being a team who win together and lose together and this whole staging of being "grateful" about everything in life, is so fake it smells from miles away. No sincere team would have ever written a letter worded that way to any fans. This is why Lewis is such a divisive figure.
I believe that the most important issue has not been addressed. Mercedes had a massive talent exodus. Can you discuss who, area of responsibility at Mercedes, where they went? What contributions have they done at their new teams. Lewis is NOT the only talent at Merc.
Exactly! This sensationalism in the media and even the overreaction of the teams seem crazy. That's being very poor losers. Seems very unprofessional to me tbh when you can't accept someone else doing better than you and accept that change takes time. People want something to happen instantly but that's not how things go. Ferrari had to come to terms with being p5 and they bounded back to almsot fight for the championship within one year. You need to take risks to win big and sometimes, they fail, but that's what keeps it fun and interesting with cycles of dominance and failure and regrowth.
I remember when Toto said the W14 looked exactly like the W13, and the engineers assured him that it's very different underneath, they were right, whatever they did made it even worse. Toto also claimed that the zero sidepod design didn't have any effect on performance, i don't know what Mike Elliot is on about but the concept totally failed.
Then explain why all but 3 teams are behind them in the pecking order? By your logic, they would be dead last ... Guess what!?! They're not. It's mostly the floor, front suspension.
It's not worse than last year's car. All the teams have made massive improvement if you look at lap times. Mercedes pace was faster than the midfield teams so they are in a similar position to last year at least without the porpoising
@@f1gridlock Mercedes doesn't have porpoising because Toto Wolff had the FIA change the ride hight rule with 15 mm and forced all teams to change their ridehight because Mercedes couldn't fix their own problems. It's a disgrace that teams that designed a good ground effect car were punnished because Mercedes couldn't drive close to the ground.
@@henkm4862 it was 10mm, and Toto did not ask for the rule change. The FIA made the call. If you think one team boss owns the FIA then why did the FIA steal his drivers championship?
I respect Martin very much. But how can he say that Lewis is the ultimate teamplayer. If you ask his former teammates and listen to the radio i dont think so... The last 7 years all was working well for him.
It’s interesting to watch Mercedes and their fans come to terms with suddenly not being the best. Pretty remarkable how accustomed they have all become to simply being the best… now they’ll have to find out what it’s like to support a team that can’t simply spend their way out of their decisions.
Alonso endures 5+ years of avg Cars... expresses displeasure Media - he's being toxic Lewis endures one season with average machinery, expresses displeasure Media - where should he go next?? Hypocrite glory hunters
Hamilton will retire at Mercedes-Benz and the best choice for Norris is Red Bull but it would be extremely difficult for him to beat Verstappen regularly.
The reason for the apology is because Lewis, George and fans were promised a car that would be immediately faster on track. Instead, we have actually taken a step back. I don’t think there’s any loss of fans though other than the bandwagons.
Is it a step back if your car is faster than before? They were handicapped by their aero philosophy which they didn't give up on, which goes well with their moto of not losing faith. It's a part of the journey, now that they have accepted the reality, they will come back stronger becusse now they have all the data about things that work from the successful teams and things that don't work from their own design. That was what helped Aston jump over the midfield and so will help merc get closer to the top, but to win a championship might not be possible till the next rule changes because the competition just has that headstart now. That's what happened in the previous rule change where merc had a headstart on everyone else and it took many many years for others to catch up(including rule changes to hamstring merc a little to increase the competition).
Yeah that is the lamest comment thrown around by “analysts” all the time. On top of that they have always been werking from the front running position, they have actually not shown that they can come back from way behind.
I highly doubt any team forgets how to be champions, the reality is some of them don't have the resources to compete anymore and the others are bogged down either chasing concepts with diminishing returns or simply end up being beaten to the line by some other champion team.
Imagine a world if you will, in which Lewis and Fernando, in the twilight of their careers, find themselves teammates at Aston Martin and both have a chance of winning a championship. One can only dream.
The hypocrisme about this is, you did not hear anyone from Sky say that in the dominant aera of Mercedes and Hamilton. But now after just one race. It's ridicule.
Interesting the young presenters talk about teams feelings & ego’s and Martin talks about the reality of designing a good car & winning. Sums up the difference in the generations to be fair 🤔

The body work exterior has been designed to look better but functionally their are no air duct intakes behind the front wheels which ever other car has, this direction looks incredible however the performance just has not paid off.
If history has taught us something, it's that one team leapfrog the others at the beginning of a new era. And others play catch-up and might take years to become competitive, almost towards the end of that era. In all probability, Max will keep winning as that car is just fantastic. Mercedes to redesign their car and that too with a budget cap and having lost key people will be very difficult. And Ferrari is also slipping and might take atleast this year under a new boss to regroup. I sort of see Lewis trying to get a seat at Aston Martin somehow. That's the best bet for now.
Its not going to happen. Alonso aint going to walk after a year. He will stay at Aston for at least 2-3 years. Lance won't be leaving Aston. So time is running away from Lewis. Merc will have to pull a miracle either 2024 or 2025
@@benito0072 I agree, but then logically AM is the only team Hamilton could switch to. Zero chance RB take him, almost zero chance for Ferrari, and AM is the only other decent car.
While Lando did sign a long contract, he will only be 26 when it ends. As much as I'm sure he wants to win and have a car to fight at the front with, there are no guarantees of anything in F1 and signing an £80 million contract at 22 years old is not a bad life decision.
Mercedes is not a team that knows how to communicate in bad times, they're so used to being the front of the field. They've never had to downgrade expectations, or ever apologize. Naturally, now that they have to apologize for bad performance, they're learning on the job.

McLaren let go a lot of skilled workers during the cost cap exercise. Those left are not sure of the direction the team are going. Lots of staff have left for other teams.
So many prescriptive management methods forget the most important factor: the human being. In my experience a fantastic Engineer can be 10 times more productive than even a very good Engineer. I'm in Aviation not F1 but I hypothesise the same theory applies.
Lewis would fit in at Aston Martin. He is absolutely not going to go to RB to be Max's partner. When the two are on a podium together, Max will not even acknowledge Lewis' presence.
I really enjoy listening to Martin and Jess both. Their recounts of history are interesting and intelligently applied to their opinions. I guess Matt too but he didn’t have much chance to add.

“Lewis feels robbed, along with a lot of other people”. Abu Dhabi must be a very dangerous place.’ Did the police recover anything of the stolen stuff? Dear oh dear poor lot of other people. Luckily many tv spectators were having the time of their live, according to so many shorts that showed people from all over the world jumping up and down in homes and public places.
As far as Lando , where can he go ? He has to stay at McLaren unfortunately! Unless AMR was to axe Lance there's no other team that's worth going to for him !! But Lawrence built AMR for Lance so the odds of that seat opening are slim !!
I look at Hamilton’s situation like this, he joined Mercedes knowing he’d have the best power unit and car which showed the dominance and when you look at drivers like max at red bull before all this he grew with the team not once complaining about leaving, you look at Ferrari not winning since 07 and yet vettel grinding out and grew with them, now all of a sudden Hamilton is no longer had the most competitive car, he speaks on leaving, To me it sounds like he wants the best or I’m out and that is wrong
This letter from Mercedes, it feels like a Panic reaction. I think they were shocked about the massive calls for Mike Elliott's head! They thought the fans were loyal to the team like the Tifosi are, (as Lewis always contributes the team) but see that many only are fans of Lewis. They're trying to stop the fire by using soothing words. That won't work in this period.
The "fans" are so disloyal. Not to recognise the engineering Marvel that they produced for so many years and now to blame them for coming up with a p3 car like its the end of the world. These are people who like the drama more than the technical aspect of F1, who just see positions at the end of the race and don't understand what goes into achieving that. That's why the F1 community itself is very polarised, and to each their own, but unfortunately with social media, everyone thinks it's best for them to share their negativity online amd target individuals.
Lando to me is most capable of winning a Championship out of all the drivers without a championship now. Just needs the machinery under him to get it done. Would love to see that at McLaren, but it may end up being at RB...could be in a Merc too.
To think the sport change so much so the grid could catch up with Mercedes . Lol now redbull look like there going to run away with it for next couple of years
I remember Martin signing for McLaren in 1994 and thought "Yes!!!" - then they said they were using Peugeot engines... and the rest of the season was fires and disappointment (apart from Monaco)
I always hate how British media, expecially sky really want Mercedes, or better say Lewis to win. When Mercedes was on top it was like everything is ok, the other teams don't matter, now that Mercedes have a bad car, they only talk about Mercedes.

I feel the budget cap is one reason this will not be a good year for Mercedes in the past they had money to burn to get the car sorted out.
Ferrari.....
i personally believe that numbers don't lie. if the cfd and the wind tunnel models are showing promising performance then it is worth pursuing the current concept. lets not forget that the merc engineers have done a very good job in bringing the porpoising issues under control at least at the last race. they now have a stable platform to develop.
Dear Sky, F1 is not only about LH and Mercedes you know.
For them it is. One year RB has the construction title and they are already play the british media game
Love seeing the mercedes fan boy faces 😂😂😂 brundle looks like he's going to cry 🥳🥳 LET'S GO MAX
It's been the 1st race keep yourself together

Enjoyed listening to this. Martin Brundle is maybe Sky F1's main asset in my opinion. When he talks, you listen. It's structured, knowledgeable and balanced. In comparison, Jess McFadyen just talked too much in what I felt was an unstructured way and left me wondering what she has said. No offense but sometimes, less is more.
Agree. If not for Martin I would stop watching/listening. Repeating back observations doesn’t add and value. The F1 supporter base aren’t interested in babble, we like discussion around the facts
Lewis should stay where he is look at seb he was not the same when he left red bull
Lewis is not the same after his Mercedes is not the top car anymore
The whole Mercedes mantra as well as Lewis Hamiltons about about being a team who win together and lose together and this whole staging of being "grateful" about everything in life, is so fake it smells from miles away. No sincere team would have ever written a letter worded that way to any fans. This is why Lewis is such a divisive figure.
Nail on head. That team is in freefall.
I believe that the most important issue has not been addressed. Mercedes had a massive talent exodus. Can you discuss who, area of responsibility at Mercedes, where they went? What contributions have they done at their new teams. Lewis is NOT the only talent at Merc.
Aston. Everyone went to aston. Redbull lost so many ppl too. And merc lost alot of power unit people to red bull powertrains
Only been one race of the season Jesus Christ man 🤦🏻♂️
@@SHANTUBE786 eeehhhh…. Money? All teams beneath Mercedes have less money, so try again.
@@f1gridlock Mercedes doesn't have porpoising because Toto Wolff had the FIA change the ride hight rule with 15 mm and forced all teams to change their ridehight because Mercedes couldn't fix their own problems.

It’s interesting to watch Mercedes and their fans come to terms with suddenly not being the best. Pretty remarkable how accustomed they have all become to simply being the best… now they’ll have to find out what it’s like to support a team that can’t simply spend their way out of their decisions.
They are loosing fans faster than employees to Aston and red bull 😂

Hamilton will retire at Mercedes-Benz and the best choice for Norris is Red Bull but it would be extremely difficult for him to beat Verstappen regularly.
It will be a career ending move. Even for Lando, who is great!

I highly doubt any team forgets how to be champions, the reality is some of them don't have the resources to compete anymore and the others are bogged down either chasing concepts with diminishing returns or simply end up being beaten to the line by some other champion team.

Spot on.
Its not going to happen. Alonso aint going to walk after a year. He will stay at Aston for at least 2-3 years. Lance won't be leaving Aston.
So time is running away from Lewis. Merc will have to pull a miracle either 2024 or 2025

While Lando did sign a long contract, he will only be 26 when it ends. As much as I'm sure he wants to win and have a car to fight at the front with, there are no guarantees of anything in F1 and signing an £80 million contract at 22 years old is not a bad life decision.
