As a cellist myself and having heard this piece played many times this cellist in my opinion plays this better than almost anyone . . . Better than Harrell and Ma. The phrasing is what made it a clear winner as well as the amount of silk and pearls he's able to get out of his cello. You hear clearly many of the notes that seem to simply disappear with other cellists . . . BRAVO!!!
This is very fine and nuanced performance, but I'd also urge listening to the Harvey Shapiro and Earl Wild recording and also the one by Karine Georgian and Vladmir Krainev.
In this case, do pianists really sightread? Or do they mostly know the piece but still use the sheets just in case they have a memory slip? Or is it just a kind of humility sign, meaning "I'm not the soloist so I'm not supposed to know my part by heart even if I actually do"?
Absolutely breathtaking!!!!!! Thank you so so much for this, brought me tears and ecstatic joy also - never felt so connected to a truly heartfelt performance!
Perfect coordination concerning both rhythm and feeling. Very good sound quality, especially for a UA-cam video. Very colorful rendering. Just amazing!
I'm so jealous. It's just a joke. It's not enough to say good because I like it so much! I'll keep listening to your music. I've subscribed to it. It's a translation. Please understand
Sometimes Rachmaninov four concert sounds like. It will be affected by strong prejudice. It will be because of my humble ear. Eventually the rendition is excellent. Interpretation is gorgeous. It is my precious experience.
These performers are not known to me. Christoph Croisé is very good. But what an amazing accompanist Alexander Panfilov is! I almost felt like I was listening Gerald Moore - the legendary accompanist - accompaning someone. Bravo to both of them and thanks for uproading this!
Amazing. Outstanding coordination and complicity between the two instruments. It is played with might and passion but they allow room for delicacy and detail in a way that I haven't heard in any other version of this sonata. Thank you for this wonderful performance!!!
Enfin du rubato dans cette sonate ! Merci, c'est essentiel et évident pour moi chez Rach mais peu de violoncelliste le font, je ne comprends pas pourquoi... Très belle interprétation dans son ensemble
This is such an achingly beautiful piece, and so beautifully played. I can't believe I've lived this long and only now just heard it. Thank you for posting it.
Impressive played from memory and from the heart. Pushing the boundaries with Vibrato and musical expression. That vibrato reminded me of Rostropovich. Could this be the next Rostropovich? 👏🙌

Everything about this video is amazing. The artistry, the sound quality, the camera work! 34 minutes of bliss!

Alexander knows the part by memory but has the music for unexpected things like if the cellist makes a memory slip he can catch it...
Absolutely breathtaking!!!!!! Thank you so so much for this, brought me tears and ecstatic joy also - never felt so connected to a truly heartfelt performance!
thanks so much! glad you enjoyed this performance!

0:08 Lento-Allegretto
10:34 Allegro Scherzando
17:01 Andante

Estupenda versión. Se agradecen las pequeñísimas libertades de tempo para amplificar la expresividad.
16:58 so heartbreaking
