I wouldn't want to comment on the exercise bit since I'm not an expert but I would suggest a good diet that includes less acidic food and less non-vegetarian for some time because they are known to increase inflammation. Diet and sleep helps with a lot of things. Besides this, perhaps a physio could help.

I think tennis ball is good for the muscles in lower parts due to their size, but a bigger ball would be better for hamstring.
