How I use Continuous Lighting for Food Photography | Behind the Scenes

  • Опубліковано 21 січ 2020
  • This is the third and final video in this series where I explore continuous lighting for food photography and in this video, I take you behind the scenes of how I shoot food photography using a constant light.
UPDATE 9/16/2020: As for the comparison between the picture lit with the godox and the one lit with the fluorescent bulb, I do realize it was unfair to compare them without properly adjusting the white balance on the second photo. Therefore, I'm not claiming for it to be an accurate representation of light quality coming out of both sets of lights. I apologize if it was misleading in any way.
Other than that, I hope this BTS helps!

I really appreciate the way this was edited for a tutorial: show, don't tell.

I felt the same way, the fact that so much is being told here simply by showing... it's only an 8 minute video and half of it is silent. I learned more from this than I have from 30 minute videos that are non-stop talking. I greatly appreciate this!

Exactly, too many "tutorials" are just talking heads, and maybe two seconds of b-roll of the thing where they used four times more expensive gear than their tutorial was about.

Video lights may be better, but the same brightness costs a few times more compared to a flash. Also, continous lighting can make for example the model's eyes tired of the constant bright lighting. Also it warms up the air fast. As I am quite a beginner in working with a studio, I am staying with strobe lighting for some time.
Thank you for the tutorial. It was clear and informative! Keep it up!

I like the way you kept the instructions narrowed down to one task instead of diverging to more topics. I also liked seeing the Godox SL60W in use since that is my first and only continuous light. Not very many (none) of the other tutorials for stills I have found use anything in that budget category. Mostly I'll be using mine for video but I also wanted to know what I can do with it instead of flash for stills. I have a 38" softbox but I think I'll get a fold out reflector, and a second SL60W, and and and .... :)
BTW your composition with the split lighting is a great idea to simulate early morning sunlight hitting a breakfast table. It's got an uplifting effect on mood.

Excellent video very informative ! I'm perhaps the only one here who prefers the first version of the noodles shot , I found that the technique you used to combine between both harsh light and the diffused one was matching the breakfast picture perfectly ( kinda giving the impression that it's a morning sun ray ) while the noodles are more liklely to be eaten at lunch or dinner , I don't know just my humble opinion , anyway great video from beginning to end (y)
