In the summer of 2020, as a handful of nations opened back up to American travelers after months of lockdowns, I took my first big pandemic-era trip to Albania. I fell in love with the country and became brothers with my guide and friend, Erjan. So, a few months later, I returned to Albania to link back up with him and head north to explore Kosovo!
What ensued was a roughly week-long road trip that took me from the village of Brod near the Kosovo/Albania border to the famous river bifurcation in Ferizaj. Along the way, we ate our way through several incredible cities, from Prizren to Gjakova to Peja to the national capital, Pristina.

The hearty mountain fare of Kosovo was right after my own heart. Kosovo is a land of rich meats, decadent dairy, and alcohol, and the cuisine did not disappoint. From the fresh cevapi to the creamy tavas to the potent raki, Kosovar cuisine is a must-try for any curious traveler!

Hey David: After watching this video, I am stuffed🤣🤣🤣. I did not know that Kosovo had such amazing food. Everything from the salads to the meat dishes and everything else you ate: so simple and uncomplicated meals. A recurring thing I noticed is that a lot of countries have some sort of flat bread. All in all everything looked delicious from beginning to end. Happy eating.🙏🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦

It’s called a skull cap (plisi) part of the traditional albanian attire, mainly worn by old people as they were raised with other old men wearing traditional ethnic Albanian clothing.

Not one dish was from Kosovo. Half are Serbian specialties. But what does an American know?
Merkele everything is Albanian food. Serbian came to Balkan in 7 century and learn how to cook. It is different Balkan Mediterranean food than Slavic food.
