My English budgie was beautiful. He had a really big "beard" and a spikey head! He had a stroke at 3 years old and didn't survive. He had a good varied diet and his cage door was always open for him to come and go as he pleased. It took a lot of patience to get him on my arm or shoulder, he wasn't that friendly but I loved him and still miss my little blue boy. His name was Mr. Pip. I will never have another, hid death was traumatic. Love your videos thankyou.
English Budgies are the chicken broiler equivalent... London has cold winters and the budgies that survived were the ones with the genetics to produce fat easily... So if you have English Budgies it's really important to feed them a diet that doesn't spike insulin continually or too much at any one time. You do this by firstly no free feeding. One offers two meals (one in the morning and one late afternoon). Constant nibbleling causes insulin resistance. Secondly: avoid sweet fruit because fructose spikes insulin and causes metabolic diseases such as fatty liver, heart disease, tumours. Fructose makes the liver produce palmitate fatty acid and this makes blood arteries rigid There are no beneficial vitamins or minerals found in sweet fruit that cannot be found in greater quantities than leafy green vegetables. Budgies do not eat fruit in the wild (only flowers from malaluca trees, gravillia, bottle brush....) Now what do you feed your English Budgie?.. Plant your bird seed in soil and feed the greens to your Budgie when they can be cut with scissors (10 cm). Each Budgie needs about a heaped spoonful of green leaves morning and night (sprouts, grasses, carrot tops, parsley, clover, amaranth, basil, alfalfa, dandelion leaves, lettuce, cabbage, rocket, mustard leaves, spinach, melon leaves, cucumber leaves, gum leaves) Try offering at least five kinds of greens. They mainly eat grass in the wild. Secondly offer 1 tsp seeds/day per Budgie offered half in the morning and half in the afternoon. Seeds are unfortunately full of lectins (plant toxins against insects and inflammatory omega 6 and 9) It's important not to free feed seeds particularly with English Budgies. Thirdly offer boiled egg twice a week ( about the size of a pea) to replace insects that wild budgies eat. Always have clean water available. Like humans, fat around the throat of your Budgie indicates fat in and around internal organs. Even if your Budgie has the genetics to store fat, it doesn't need to develop metabolic diseases if you lovingly control it's diet. Heart arythmias can be greatly reduced with magnesium .. magnesium is part of photosynthesis and is found in green leaves. Arythmias can also be controlled by turning off your router at night, turning off mobile phones and having the bird cage distanced from electrical cables in the wall. Your English Budgie can live about 10 years.
That panting was an eye opener for me. Our 1 year old budgie has always been panting. We thought it was stress. Looks like it is a respiratory thing that is ongoing.
... My English Budgies always seem to molt their tails and have short tails most of the time. 😔 They are friendly and gentle despite their large size. My smaller Budgies were the more bossy/sassy ones. 😆🦜💕
Thanks so much ! We have a 2 month old "regular" budgie that we have had for about 3 weeks. His wings are clipped. He does sit on our fingers and lets us "pet him". We feed him millet from our hands. We interact with him every day a lot. When should we get another parakeet? How much "tamer" does he need to be before we get a partner for him?
That is awesome! It honestly really depends on how confident you are with having to care for two birds. I personally like waiting to spend more time with my birds. for some, this can be few weeks and for some maybe up to a year. It's all a personal thing. I would only get one when I am 100% with my taming skills. This way we can avoid future re-homing :)
@@FeatherBeautiful -Thanks so much for your reply! I will wait awhile and keep on taming my bird Wally. Would it be ok to get him an English budgie for a partner? Or would a regular budgie be a better choice?
I love English budgies. I have three and one more on the way. I'm picking him up from the lady I get them from this weekend. I also have two normal budgies.
Wow these two just sit there and chill..No chirping, no flying around, jumping from one arm to the other, not even cleaning their feathers or nibbling on you.
Its unfortunate but, if you ca n find one that needs a home, thats a better alternative. i would not suggest a baby because breeders tend to get more supply that way. They also come with health issues so, even if you get an adult, its best to put few cash every month to the side
They're like the pugs of the bird world. Highly desirable but too cruel to breed... no real budgie owner would fund this cruel practice. If you can deal w the vet bills of one, get a rescue and never fund breeders.
I wouldn’t just keep any bird. Parakeets or parrots are close in friendship to humans so ill go with them. Also ive heard cats had stressed some but i dont know personally
Cats shouldn't be put with any bird. Their instincts can kick in, and even a small scratch can kill a parrot in one go. Even if the cat doesn't attack, it has toxic saliva in its fur and mouth.
Ypur birds are english budgies (bigger) but not EXTREME english budgies. Your 2 birds look healthy and fit, they do not have the too long feathers, they are not mishappen, they are able to fly. The ones that those foolish old men budgie hobbyists are breeding NOW really are freaks, too heavy to either fly, or mate.
I love how they sit on your fingers and wait patiently. 😃 Great job. ♥
😊 thank you
I'm late but I always learn something new from you :D btw. we call them standard budgies in Bosnia
Hello
Ok
Hi dzermina
Thank you gurl! Interesting that you guys call them that! I know that in Turkey, they call them Jumbo :)

Try using some millet and lots of encouragement! Might help😊

You should have two birds! Birds are frock animals, they can't be kept alone! This easily counts as bird abuse!
@@Notfallkaramell I now have 3 birds !! It was never my intention to keep just one bird. Why must you jump to an inaccurate conclusion?

they're pretty chill 😊
Can you tell deference between English budgies and normal budgies as pet. Do English budgies have some major health issues.
1. Yes, english budgies are larger physically. 2. Also Yes. English budgies tend to come with many health issues
@@FeatherBeautiful I think an English Budgie is like a bumble bee it can barely fly compared to an Aussie Budgie.
Great video great job wow wow
Thanks so much 😇
What vet do you go sis? I’m still tryna find a good one ?
41 Links Road :)
Not really what I wanted to hear starting to research them . I knew they were supposed to be quieter thank you for being honest.

Yup, I was born in Turkey :)

I've seen some more recent trends and I do agree with everything you said. Its horrendous how large they get them and very cruel!
