My adult daughter lives in Florida and was coming at the end of delivering newspapers. She was going about 40, not under any influence, not speeding. She was following the rules of the road. As she was passing a concrete divider in the center of the road, some guy under the influence of something (police who responded later confirmed he was under the influence, but did not specify what) dove out right in front of my daughter. She had no time to react. He hit the driver's side of her car, totaling it out. My daughter has nightmares still. She was found 100% NOT at fault. The mother of the guy who jumped in front of my daughter's car is doing her best to sue my daughter for a million dollars. My daughter is still fighting this lawsuit. Fortunately, her home is in her father in law's name. It always has been, as he gave it to my daughter and his son. My daughter is in therapy for PTSD. She has nightmares all the time from this horrible accident, but she holds no responsibility, as it wasn't her fault.
Prayers for your daughter. Florida should, expedite the lawsuit against her... as in, throw it out and the Mom should get counter-sued and charged any expenses your daughter has incurred.
One of the rare instances where I think the cop gave the guy too many chances. Letting him go back to his car more than once was ridiculous. The cigarette was ridiculous. “Sit on that thing” was ridiculous.
That's exactly why police aren't supposed to de-escalate from a level of force once they've had to escalate that far. Verbal commands are the lowest level of force, with hands-on restraint being the next level of force. This officer got to the hands-on point but then released the suspect and went back down to verbal commands. When officers do that, bad things like this usually happen. Look up the case of David Ware. He wound up shooting two officers during a traffic stop. Both were hit in the head, one died. There are videos of it on UA-cam. Those officers de-escalated from hands-on back down to verbal commands and it gave Ware the time he needed to retreat back into his car and retrieve the gun.
Exactly. This cop messed up so bad. Letting him dig in pockets the entire stop and not stopping him light a cigarette. He need to be under review for not following procedure. This may have never happened. Now the person has to live with taking a life

The aftermath does stick with you. When I was young and an EMT, my partner and I got called out to a rural scene. A motorcyclist going home did what his friends say he did daily - failed to stop before crossing the highway. Too bad an elderly couple were on the highway at that exact moment. T-boned him, he went up the hood, hit the windshield, over the roof and off to the shoulder of the road. On arrival, his body was chest down, but the head was face up. My hardened paramedic partner didn't even want to touch him, but for liability purposes, I checked for a pulse. His body was like a bag of jello. It just jiggled all over when I tried. We had to get the elderly folks to go to the nearby house because we thought they were going to have a heart attack. I'm glad it was the coroner that had to pick him up, because I wasn't sure how we would have. I think that was worse than the guy missing the turn doing triple the speed limit and hitting the chain link fence. I remember these vividly and that was the early 1980s.
EMTs do not get nearly enough credit for the horrors they have to witness daily while sacrificing basically their whole private life to help others. And there are still people who attack emergency services workers.
The responding officer seeing the driver shift, slamming the driver's side door closed so his buddy didn't get clipped was some fast thinking!! Super impressive

As a former Paramedic, I've seen some stuff. We have a college in our town, and they have an in training Paramedic ambulance for the campus. We were called to a young man at a party who taken a 357 magnum to his temple and pulled the trigger. When we arrived, the student EMTs were doing CPR. Back then, even as a Paramedic, we couldn't stop CPR without a doctors permission. I told them to stop so I could check his vitals, which there were none. I put my fingers on his forehead to check his pupil response to light, and the weight of my fingers collapsed his skull, so I called it. He was absolutely dead. They screamed at me and said I couldn't stop CPR. I expained to them the he's was in fact dead at the moment he pulled the trigger. Every time they did a compression, blood and brain matter would come out of the side of his head. So I called the ER Doc and explained to him the situation. He said, "I think he's dead, don't you." Me, Yes!! They were so mad at me. I tried to explain to them that there are going to be times you are not going to be able to save everyone. About two weeks later, I was delivering a patient to a larger hospital that all of our bad trauma goes to. That's where trainees go to get experience and training outside of the classroom. I was getting a cup of coffee in the Doctors lounge, and one of the ER docs said, " So you are the infamous Bob #$#." To which i said "Infamous am I" Yeah, he said, " I heard you stop CPR on a gunshot victim." I said, " Absolutely, i did " I then explained what all had happened and I asked him. What would you have done if I had gotten anything back on this young man with no brain left, and brought him over to you??. He said. I would have pushed him a back room and let him die." To which I said, ,"Exactly, we save the living and let the dying die." Sorry this is so long, but I know exactly what you are saying about knowing when to help and when not to.
I’m thinking about being a surgeon and I don’t mind blood or anything but I have always wondered if seeing things like that would scar people or atleast mess with you, would you be able to talk about that aspect?
@bradencermak5217 the things you would see are in a control environment. The things I've seen were not. There is a big difference between clinical situations and things we see in the field. But it all affects people differently. You just have to be able to put it back in your mind until the job is done, then you deal with it later.
@bradencermak5217 I loved every minute of it. I was hard and stressful. But I loved helping people. The only thing that bothered me the most was babies and little kids dying. You just have to know you did your absolute best and did all you could do to save them. But that was true for everyone else, too. But kids hit home the worst. If you are going into the medical field to help people, you'll enjoy it. The hours are long, and the work is stressful, but in the end, it's all worth it. There's something about helping people and saving lives. Most of the time, as a paramedic, we didn't get a lot of thanks. But just knowing you've helped someone was always enough for me. Every once in a while, someone would come up to you and say thanks, which made it all worth it.

@@winstonsyme7672 cops for SURE don't get "thrown in prison" for "controlling the situation". If this cop would've yanked him to the ground, i doubt anything wouldve happened to the cop.
The person I feel worse for in this situation is the sorry random person that happened to run over the guy. An absolute horror I couldn't imagine living with.
I think at first I'd be a bit distraught. After I found out he was DUI and running from the cops, my attitude would change to f?@k him. Then I would sleep a ok knowing he cant hurt anyone with his retardation.
I think this a great example of how too much patience can end up developping the situation in a way that wasn't expected. That being said I don't think the trooper is to blame at all, just an unfortunate turn of events.
I have to imagine that the officer was probably thinking of how he would be crucified in the media if he escalated, even though it would have been totally justified. Most blame for this situation, of course, goes to the dumb ass who tried to run. But this guy's blood is also on the hands of all the anti-cop, first amendment auditor ass hats who make police nervous to do their jobs.
It seems like this scenario of an unarmed suspect jumping into a car with the cops holding the door open and taking off happens pretty often. Wonder if there's any training they could do to be able to quickly and safely disable a vehicle from that position, i.e stick something under the gas pedal, break the shifter so it can't go out of park, or swipe the keys.
@@normalstreet1 I mean he did have a taser, which he used to knock the guy out for a few seconds. He should've tased again and pulled him out with the other officer IMO.
@@pscyokilla that is the ultimate lesson here I think. More assertive control would have saved at least one life, and they got off lucky that he didn't run over an officer or kill a whole family in their minivan or a school soccer team or something similarly tragic. A friend of mine was the driver (innocent bystander) in a similar situation. Robbery suspect ran out into a highway trying to escape and ended up meeting my friend's Subaru, and that was it for both him and the Subaru. Thankfully it didn't affect my friend too badly, he made a couple jokes about it and moved on. Hopefully this person can do the same.

Feel terrible for that poor driver. Could hear the mix of fear and dejection in her voice, added with the slight lack of action when told to get off the road shows that she was really going through something. The guy chose to throw his life away and she was the poor bystander that had to witness his end. Sounded like there were more people in the car too, so I hope they can come out of this without mental scarring too. Just a sad situation when you look at it. Thoughts and prayers to the bystanders and police affected by this situation.
I'd love to see "battery on a police officer" have a mandatory prison term instead of leaving it up to these liberal judges. You fight with the cop, you go to prison. I'd happily pay to build more prisons.
Yup, I wanted to get into law enforcement right at the beginning of the anti police movement. But now I won't do it because I know I'll most likely end up in prison myself for just doing the job. So it's definitely keeping people out of the field entirely as well.

Feel awful for the lady that hit him and for the officer that originally stopped him. He was obviously a nice, compassionate person and im sure this affected him too
him being overly nice now means that lady has to deal with the fact she has blood on her hands, has totalled her car, and will have to deal with this shit for a long time. being compassionate is one thing, this dumbassery doesn't call for it. the moment that dude was resisting tasers should have been deployed before he even got back into the car. a car is a deadly weapon, wouldn't have even blinked if the second officer shot him then and there when he rammed the sign.
I have seen this posted already and it saddens me that this guy made such a choice just for being drunk. I also feel for the person whom hit him. They have to live with that forever. How drunk do you have to be to run into traffic to escape a dui? I hope the person whom hit him recovers and has support.
This one was gnarly. I was a firefighter/EMT in my younger days and one call was a drunk who had been hit walking across a 2-lane rural highway, then run over by the following car. Messy scene to deal with and clean up, but what was worse was the next day, a Sunday, NASCAR car wash day. While cleaning the under carriage I realized there were remains of the guy on my car and tires. It was difficult to deal with the cleaning that day. People have made dumb decisions for many, many years.
I'm curious about this NASCAR car wash day. Washing your car? Washing a NASCAR? Washing your NASCAR? If it's the last one it is probably going to create more questions. ;-)

Well - unfortunately these days all police are scrutinized by Libs that will get them fired, end their careers, and probably sued. I can understand to some point how this can happen. I would not want to be a police officer today with these LIB idiots defunding, and making the police the problem, when in reality it's the politics of Dem's causing it.
Since the cops weren't able to control him, the poor driver and passengers of that vehicle will now be scarred for life after hitting and killing a pedestrian. This is not acceptable at all.
18 years ago, while in the academy, I was taught a phrase that I would go on to repeat to myself mentally when I was less experienced and still learning. “Wrap this shit up” (thank you Sgt Jones) If you’re in law enforcement you probably know exactly what that means. And even if you’re not you don’t need to be a LE expert to get the gist of it. As a general rule, at most scenes you respond to, you will know fairly quickly what the right course of action is. Once you know what you need to do…wrap that shit up, get it done, don’t hesitate. That sometimes means decisive, sometimes violent seeming or actually violent action. Cops now a days are taught to hesitate and re-evaluate. And that’s ok sometimes but in an arrest situation it needs to be over quickly and hesitation is dangerous. You should never give people time to make a bad situation worse. And even more detrimental is the way cops are Monday morning quarterbacked and given very little benefit of the doubt. Cops understandably are way more hesitant to take meaningful decisive action because if it goes wrong they will get dragged through the ringer. That cop would have been well within his scope of employment to step up the use of force and take that guy down to the ground and throw strikes. But if he took him to the ground and the perp got seriously injured while resisting then that cop would have to worry about a ton of ramifications. So this is what you see nowadays. A million verbal commands, half assed use of force with kid gloves, and situations escalating to a much more life threatening level. And by no means am I trying to come down on the cop. It’s backwards today…almost every cop I know is more worried about getting sued/in trouble then they are of getting killed/hurt in the line of duty. That’s a big part of why recruiting is down nationwide and there is no end in sight for that. Cops are retiring as soon as they can because at the end of the day the risk to reward ratio is so skewed these days. Stay safe out there everyone, cops or not.
I'm not sure using one clear example really implies that the entirety of society should have concerns over corrupt authorities with legal immunities just so those same authorities can be more comfortable beating civilians. Again, giving them MORE legal protection to BEAT CIVILIANS, seems like a bad idea.
My usual phrase to the other officers at the scene is, "That's it. We're done." At that point the talking's over and dude is getting taken into custody using whatever reasonable force is needed to accomplish it. Every other officer on scene knows what it means if I say that to them or they say it to me.

100% agree. Him watching as the dude lights up his cigarette from the driver's seat of the car he wasn't supposed to be in actually had me angry.

I was getting a cup of coffee in the Doctors lounge, and one of the ER docs said, " So you are the infamous Bob #$#."
To which i said
"Infamous am I"
Yeah, he said, " I heard you stop CPR on a gunshot victim."
I said, " Absolutely, i did "
I then explained what all had happened and I asked him.
What would you have done if I had gotten anything back on this young man with no brain left, and brought him over to you??.
He said. I would have pushed him a back room and let him die." To which I said, ,"Exactly, we save the living and let the dying die."

@@normalstreet1 I mean he did have a taser, which he used to knock the guy out for a few seconds. He should've tased again and pulled him out with the other officer IMO.
This cop was being as polite as hell! Another would've have the suspect on the ground and cuffed.
That's the weird dynamic about it too tho. If he was put in cuffs he'd still be alive
@@pscyokilla that is the ultimate lesson here I think. More assertive control would have saved at least one life, and they got off lucky that he didn't run over an officer or kill a whole family in their minivan or a school soccer team or something similarly tragic. And that's not even counting the fact that the man was given dozens of opportunities to obtain a weapon to use on the officer(s).
Cop gave him way too many warnings he should have just tased him when he started the car
I bet he'd still be alive.
Hope they used this in future training sessions.
TODAY’S LESSON: IF YOU’RE THE ONE IN THE UNIFORM, WHAT YOU SAY GOES.
Prayers going out to whoever unintentionally hit him. May their mental health remain intact
What about the guy? It isn't all black and white
She is fine, it's an inside joke between her and her friends.

Hopefully this person can do the same.
damn thats pretty tough honestly, i dont know if i'd have the strength to shrug off turning someone into my moms lasagna on the interstate, but props to him.
Evidently he was in a hurry to collect his well deserved Darwin Award.
😅😂🤣 Dude; that’s dark…
Police wouldn’t give it to him so he took the liberty himself.
Sucks for the person that hit his dumb@ss!
Darwin award??? Wrong the moron did the biggest omnifail and earned a when zombies that have no brains become as smart as hawking/Einstein put together
You definitely know that said person fucked up hard-core
Feel terrible for that poor driver. Could hear the mix of fear and dejection in her voice, added with the slight lack of action when told to get off the road shows that she was really going through something. The guy chose to throw his life away and she was the poor bystander that had to witness his end. Sounded like there were more people in the car too, so I hope they can come out of this without mental scarring too. Just a sad situation when you look at it. Thoughts and prayers to the bystanders and police affected by this situation.
Driving or running away from the police doesn't mean, you want to end your life
The people who you saw in the video were not the car who hit him - that car stopped a few hundred feet down the freeway

This police officer really is patient as fuck.
I wonder why??😂😊
Jesus christ this police officer is the most patient person I've ever seen
Not a good thing in those case at all
This is a perfect example of a cop not taking control of a situation out of fear of liability.
I agree
I'd love to see "battery on a police officer" have a mandatory prison term instead of leaving it up to these liberal judges. You fight with the cop, you go to prison. I'd happily pay to build more prisons.
Exactly. This could have turned out differently if the trooper didn't have his hands tied behind his back.
I was thinking the same thing. Some Police are so afraid of liability they underreact.
Yup, I wanted to get into law enforcement right at the beginning of the anti police movement. But now I won't do it because I know I'll most likely end up in prison myself for just doing the job. So it's definitely keeping people out of the field entirely as well.
Sometimes you're the windshield, Sometimes you're the bug. Sensitivity training at its finest
The biggest mistake the trooper made was waiting so long to try and detain the guy
Hey Donut, my ma and I always loved to watch your videos and just this morning, she passed. Thank you so much for the countless hours of entertainment you gave us, it means so much to me.

8:15 When the officer with his sidearm out notices the car rolling, I love that instinct of slamming it shut as the other officer had his arm in a spot where it could've easily been injured or even taken right off
Yeah I noticed that too he was about to floor it and the other officer slammed the door so it didn't collect his buddy real quick thinking
Yeah that was smart, I thought the door was about to take out the other cop for a sec
Bro you can hear how squarely that impact was made.
Feel awful for the lady that hit him and for the officer that originally stopped him. He was obviously a nice, compassionate person and im sure this affected him too
Exactly
In the extended bodycam of the second trooper you see how torn up the initial officer is about what happened
She should be happy she splattered a looser.
him being overly nice now means that lady has to deal with the fact she has blood on her hands, has totalled her car, and will have to deal with this shit for a long time. being compassionate is one thing, this dumbassery doesn't call for it. the moment that dude was resisting tasers should have been deployed before he even got back into the car. a car is a deadly weapon, wouldn't have even blinked if the second officer shot him then and there when he rammed the sign.
I promise you this he’s gonna be more aggressive after this
This dude's Zen was ON POINT.
He really became one with the road.

Mr Miyagi said it best. "Squsck just like grape."
Or did he become many pieces on the road?

I have seen this posted already and it saddens me that this guy made such a choice just for being drunk. I also feel for the person whom hit him. They have to live with that forever. How drunk do you have to be to run into traffic to escape a dui? I hope the person whom hit him recovers and has support.
Don’t have to be drunk, some people are just that’s fucking ret*arded.
Heres the thing. He wasnt really THAT drunk. This wasnt a decision he made because he was drunk. This was a decision he made plain and simple.

My Dads Advice died in 2015 At 76 was do what they say don't fight. Fight it in Court!!
That's absolutely gruesome. I hope you've come to terms with that but I guess your job had you in those type of situations often
That's nothing think about what our soilders have to do everyday

I'm curious about this NASCAR car wash day. Washing your car? Washing a NASCAR? Washing your NASCAR? If it's the last one it is probably going to create more questions. ;-)
@user-vs4qc7yj9s My dad was a cop. He came home and told us about a boy our age, crushed from the waist down by a milk truck. He held him and talked to him as he died. No counseling back then he just worked through it.
Man, these are the most passive cops
Letting the guy back in the car, reaching in his pockets. Hell, he even lit up a cig in the midst of getting ordered to get out of the car!
Better training is absolutely needed
Thank the “defund the police” crowd, now we got cops that are afraid to do their job for fear of backlash
Very weird all around
Well, it is woke CO after all. Surprised the copper didn't ask for pronouns.
“Wrap this shit up” (thank you Sgt Jones)
If you’re in law enforcement you probably know exactly what that means.
Too long didn’t read tbh
My usual phrase to the other officers at the scene is, "That's it. We're done." At that point the talking's over and dude is getting taken into custody using whatever reasonable force is needed to accomplish it. Every other officer on scene knows what it means if I say that to them or they say it to me.
Aww boo hoo, I feel sooo sorry for you :(
