Love this conversation. The idea that consciousness is emergent because of the universe's slant toward complexity, is really thought provoking. This would have huge implications regarding humanity's past & present meta-narratives and material social organization. It's so fascinating that today, all these seemingly separate categories like science, philosophy, psychology, politics, spirituality, etc. are being blurred together in a (sort of) Deleuzian way by identifying the differences, yet piecing them together like a puzzle. Thank you for doing what you do, I'm here for it!

It's amazing that ancient vedic swamis were writing some deep ideas down about consciousness and the nature of reality, how many thousands of years ago? I think we may have devolved despite thinking we're advanced. I enjoyed listening to you guys.

The fungi intelligence clearly told me that "I am the universe, the creator mind, experiencing itself through me, recording and experiencing every experience I have, and everyone else is here doing the same, until we merge back with the one. That the universe (as we call it) will keep expanding infinitely because experience is infinite, and it must experience everything there is to experience in the material universe in order to fully know itself - from the falling of a twig to the collapse of a civilization, this also allows us to become 'responsible' spiritual beings if we choose, through these birthed incarnations (another story). That the Earth is like a big ovary birthing souls into the cosmos and the body is the placenta keeping us attached to the mother that drops upon death." It is that last statement which makes me question reincarnation as we define it, and our origin, and has dogged me to this day. Do we need the planet to become aware as conscious spirit? Or were we already that prior to being birthed here?

1:23 and “don’t confuse the map for the landscape” by Alan watts.
Also, he makes a wonderful point as it relates to the main point here about the map and the landscape. He once recounted a story about the Great Depression and described a man who arrived at a construction site to build a house, only to be told by the foreman, “Sorry, chum, you can’t work today; there ain’t no inches.” Confused, the man asked, “What do you mean there ain’t no inches?” The foreman explained, “Well, we’ve got lumber, we’ve got metal, and we even have tape measures. But there’s a slump in inches as such.”
Watts used this tale to illustrate how our confusion between money and wealth often leads us to absurd positions. And it serves as a reminder to consider what truly matters beyond mere financial transactions.
Btw. (to the host) That Mandelbrot Set poster behind you, I have that on my wall 😆 nice to see it on other walls too!

A tree is a living organism, scientists accept this, your regular people might have difficulty in understand this or accepting it, in the same way maybe scientists have difficulties accepting the universe is also a living organism, it's alive itself.

1:52 Consciousness is fondamental in the whole creation.
Consciousness created all the physical from the physical, complexity formed intelligent beings for the awareness of the universe. With time the whole universe will be self aware. This is our purpose in life. You see humans are important in this cycle …

There seems to be at least two fundamental problem with theories that propose internal "models" in brains or cognition. One problem is time. How do living beings encode and decode the temporal context of perceptions and actions? And, what about the time course of perception, encoding, decoding, action. Second, there is no strong explanation or evidence for a process that translates a reality into a model, or the model into reality. And relatedly there is an origins problem here. If our perception and action are ultimately model based, how do we account for the origin of the model, without some reality to ground that model in the first place. Is a model an emergent phenomena?
Many won't like this, because even Friston's theory is susceptible to these problems of modeling reality in order to function in a reality.

Humans can communicate with ancient stone. The day we say something is impossible, is the day it becomes impossible.
The 20 days of the Maya are the same cycle as the first twenty hexagrams of the I-Ching,...(legge trans) #1 hexagram is Batz. #20 is Tzi.
If you cannot communicate with stone,..you are not an initiate. Come back when you can.

Even in the western world, they do say that history repeats itself, and it's probably true in some way, as humanity, we get to face previous situations and problems we failed in our past history, under a new more improved way of seeing things, in our course through history, and that is evolution of a species in itself, although scientists do not always accept any natural procedures that transcend our limited lifetimes or require us to accept life as something different than what we thought of, apart from maybe an overly simplistic view on evolution. The universe is alive and conscious and it evolves with our help too, or maybe through us.
